DNF 60%, which makes me sad because I wanted to like this book. I just
can't take the hot/cold -push/pull anymore. Both characters think one way but act another. The H is obsessed with the h & wants to find a way to make her his. The h is just as equally drawn to the H. But you would never know that based on how they talk to each other & their actions. The constant contradictions kept taking the romance out of the book and I found myself not only getting bored but also annoyed.

First of all, this cover rocks! Between the cover and the synopsis, I had to read this book. I think a lot of woman have a fantasy about a guy in prison cause let's face it, he's the ultimate bad boy. Knowing Street is obssessed with Katie and even hunts her down after he gets out of prison is a lure I couldn't resist. While I did like this book and it was maturely written, it wasn't as hot as I was hoping. The only reason I have is, it felt like we were reading about two teenagers ins

3.5 stars. Review to come. I'm too lazy right now.
1-1/2 stars.

Where do I even start with this book? Thomas Street became obsessed with Katie when she was a lunch lady at the prison he was serving time in. I don't think they spoke one word to each other the entire time she worked there. Fast forward two years (I think), and Street's out--and he finds finds Katie. She gets him a job at the bookstore she works at, and know what happens. They fall in love. Sort of. I mean, they do, but there's so much back and forth between them, I don't

I was asked to read and review Hard Times and give it an honest review.  The book is currently free on a few sites.  I found both Katie and Street to be utter contradictions. The first part of the book Katie is an abused mouse then she turns a complete 180 when Street comes back into the picture.  I liked the second version of Kate better, but it was such a contradiction that it didn’t mesh well in my mind.

Then there is Street.  He is depicted as this badass prisoner, Then he gets out

This is one of those books that wasn't bad but wasn't mind blowing which is not necessarily a bad thing. Not every book has to blow your mind. But it is a read that is sort of forgettable, meaning, I read it last week and now sitting here trying to gather my thoughts, I struggle with remembering what I actually liked and disliked about it.

One thing I do remember is it starts out with a man in prison and he gets out. Okay, I have read prison romances or ex-con romances before. But then somehow a

The story was ok but didn't wow me, due to the length of the book it felt very underdeveloped. It had such potential but just felt a little lacking for me, could have had more detail.
Street was a bit hot and cold with Katie considering how obsessed he was with her and she kept chasing after him time and time again. I liked the secondary characters but after a bit of research it shows the next books in the series are equally short and while I find the synopsis interesting for each of them, I much

I was surprised to see that Street had some self control in him, who would have thought, “you should go,” he says through a smile as he adjusts the erection in his jeans. “If we start now, you’re not going to get home until midnight.” I really liked this book, Street was a good man.

Katie serves food in the prison Thomas Street was sent to. They fantasize quite a bit about one another over time. When he is released from prison he finds her, works in the bookshop she works in and they begin a relationship that ends with a HEA.

If you like bad boy alpha males, women who are attracted to these men, don’t mind instant relationships based on fantasy and are in the mood for a contemporary romance that is more fairy tale than reality then this might be a book you will enjoy.

I was instantly drawn in to the crazy link between the main characters even though I'm not an insta love fan. The constant POV change during pinnacle scenes speeds the pace of the book and gives the reader a more complete instant read on situations Katie and Street. There were some intense moments readers got to feel that were believable and yet sometimes the perfect connection got a little much. I wish Katie was a bit stronger because it was odd that she couldn't see the correlation between her ...more

Street and Katie met in a prision... she is the girl serving the food and he paying for help a friend, but both can't take their eyes and lust for each other...
Katie has a abusive boyfriend and Street a dark past... will they meet again? Katie no longer works at the prison ... Street just got out of prison.
At the beginning it's just hard lust but their relationship is intense and becomes a redeeming love.

This book was a huge letdown. The H was a loser and the h had the typical cliche struggles (abusive ex, struggling to make ends meet, etc). The H treated the h like garbage. After their first time together he dismisses her so coldly. I was disappointed in the h. She kept chasing after him. Lastly, there were 2 sex scenes that were not real but fantasies that the H and h were having. I hate that. I am already reading a story, I don't want another fake scene in a fake scene.

Awesome <3 A really great story filled with amazing characters. The entire book, from start to finish, was completely entertaining. You can't not fall in love with Street, or Katie for street. All fans of romance, particularly of the bad boy, yet can be sweet variety, should hands down read this book. Can't wait to start Slate's story now :)

Hard Time is the first book in the Hard as Nails contemporary romance series by Hope Conrad. Thomas Street is an ex-con, but before he got out of prison, he locked eyes with her. The moment Street sees Katie serving food in a hellhole of a prison, he wants her. Now he’s found her again, working in a bookstore of all places, and she’s just as gorgeous as he remembers. Only Katie thinks he can be redeemed. That there’s a good man underneath his darkness. But then Katie becomes his, Katie and her d ...more

>Book Review – Hard Time

>This book is the first in the Hard as Nails series and ends in an HEA. Katie has a dead end job in prison food service. She finds a mutual attraction with an inmate, Street. They never speak, but she can’t seem to forget about him. Two years later, Katie is out of an abusive relationship with a daughter in tow. She now works at a bookstore, when Street walks in.

>The pull between Street and Katie is undeniable, but I wouldn’t really call this romance. Street has

Some people have it tough.

Thomas Street was a convict in prison when he first saw Katie. She was serving food at the prison as a job. She was petite, pretty and had a great figure, although in her cook’s outfit it was hard to tell. He saw her during a meal time and couldn’t get her out of his mind. Katie noticed him also, but the prison lunch room was no place to mix with cons, but for some reason she couldn’t get him out of her mind. He was big, tough, and handsome in a rugged sort of way. Katie and Thomas Street are both looking for fresh starts. He is just out of prison and she has a 3-month-old daughter from her abuse ex-boyfriend. Both of them fantasized about the other while she worked in the prison kitchen he was incarcerated at. It has been 2 years since they last saw each other but Thomas can't stay away. He finds her at her job at a bookstore and lets her know he has been keeping tabs on her. Katie has been burned by men in the past, most especially her recent ex. He phys ...more

A very fast paced story by Hope Conrad. This story begins in a prison cafeteria with the two main characters, Thomas Street- inmate, and Katie-a cafeteria employee, observing each other with considerable interest. The plot thickens with prison drama and time passes before fate brings these two people back together in normal society, Thomas as an ex-con looking for work and Katie as a bookstore employee. I found their story to be very touching and enjoyed watching both characters learn how to tru ...more

Not a bad read, at least the characters haven't magically fixed all their problems by the end. And there are just enough unresolved problems in the plot line to give some hope for decent stories through the rest of the series.

Katie and Tom’s story is fast-paced with many bumps along the road and many unexpected twist and turns.
The characters are very well designed, faithful to the smallest detail and very profound with complex personalities.
All in all, this results in a pretty convincing package.

Absolutely loved this book. I wasn't real sure about the plot as this is not my normal read, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this book.

This book had a great storyline and characters, but fell short in flow, not as well written as many of Ms. DePaul's books that I have read!
