Northern Dandy collects Zach Bartlett's body of bawdy work performed at Esoterotica, New Orleans' original outlet for sensual spoken word. Ranging from salacious slant-rhymed sestinas and multiple-choice misadvantures to limericks that knock Nantucket down a few pegs, these frisky formal experiments walk a wry route between Vaudeville and Storyville.

This book has Choose Your Own (Erotic) Adventures, poems about squid-cest, and great advice on women in the form of infomercial-style advertisements, musings on what it means to rebound, and so much more. It had me laugh aloud while reading it alone in an empty room. It also had me laughing aloud when he read the pieces individually and over the course of a couple years, live at Esoterotica.

If Zach Bartlett isn't my favorite local writer, I can't finish this sentence. Actually, I'm pretty sure

Bartlett's Northern Dandy is funny, intelligent, and raunchy from start to finish. It does hilarity and eroticism without ever straying into offensive language or scenarios—a reader can trust this author's naughty sense of humor to be both inclusive and bold. Themes of New England-ness merge with themes of sexuality and self-deprecation. With limericks, choose-your-own-adventures, rhyming couplets and more, Northern Dandy will delight at every turn!

A limerick to whet your palate:

Zach Bartlett is a librarian and former Masshole living in New Orleans along with a closet full of threadbare punk t-shirts. His irreverent fiction has appeared in magazines and podcasts including Mad Scientist Journal, the Overcast, and Speculative City. He's a frequent collaborator with the local reading series Esoterotica, with whom he's co-written three Fringe Festival shows. His first novel T ...more
