I am saddened to say I did not enjoy this book at all, and felt rather frustrated reading it.

To begin, I assumed the author was coming to the reader from a place of having conquered her fears and was able to stand victorious over them. But she starts off by saying she is STILL fighting her fears. To me, this doesn’t instill confidence in the reader, because it’s as if the author is saying she tried all her own techniques and they failed. But that aside, the way she wrote is not a style I enjoyed. She uses a lot of “rah-rah” imagery, and talks about overcoming fear as an adventure, which is honestly not all that appealing to me.

She also talks about banding together with other women to fight fear (but she says we should do it in our suits and heels…what about those women like myself who are not in the workforce? That line specifically felt very exclusive), which is great because we should be humble enough to share our struggles with trusted friends.

But then a few pages later, the author claims that fear fighters don’t look around for strength, but rather inside. So, I’m confused…are we supposed to look within ourselves to overcome our fear while just hanging out with other fearful women?

While the author does give good Bible verses to use, and includes a study guide at the back of the book (so you can use this book in a group setting), the overall tone and content was not appealing to me. I disagreed with a lot of her theories and practices, and it felt like she was not really writing much with substance. Perhaps my opinion is skewed because I overcame my fear in a different way but I doubt I would have found this book helpful.

Fear-fighting is a call to rise to courage, with faith. Author Kelly Balarie passionately shares about her struggles with fear and how God's truth awoken her to fight fear with the power of the Holy Spirit. Be encouraged to live strong as a daughter of the King.

We want to be brave and do away with fear. Balarie, in the context of sharing her own experiences, helps readers understand the various origins of fear and how to conquer it.

Balarie's writing style is very conversational. Reading her book is like listening to a friend across a table rather than listening to a teacher. She illustrates her concepts by telling her own stories, those of others, fictional stories, and stories from the Bible. Her writing style would appeal to career age readers, I think.

My favorite part of the book was her teaching on welcoming the Holy Spirit. Wait. Experience. Let the truth be told. Come back to prayer, again and again. Open the Bible. Meditate and communicate. Eyes attentive. (105) She notes that the time and energy we give to welcoming the Holy Spirit may well determine if we find peace with God or panic with worry. (106)

The strength of this book is the twelve week Group Study that is included. This is a relational kind of book and would have the most impact when used in a group context. Balarie suggests grabbing hands with “sisters in courage” and being part of a group study would be a great way to do that.

Food for thought: “If you spend your whole life grasping for happy in the future, you'll end up missing God's transformation in the present.” (22)

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Awakening Courage in Community

Whether it’s feelings of inadequacy, parenting anxieties, or panic over the latest terrorist tactics in the news, the challenge to face down our fears and to move forward into new, healthful, and bold behaviors is a common thread for January writing and thinking. The problem, however, with this seasonal booster is that the need for courage doesn’t expire on February 1.

Fear Fighting is a year-round calling and Kelly Balarie is a natural born cheerleader, committed to awakening courage in her readers. She has earned some pretty impressive credentials as a fear fighter in her battles with an eating disorder, depression, financial stresses, and family tragedies. She has learned, first hand, that transformation is an act of God that takes place in the present tense. With a raised fist, she trumpets the invitation to be a modern-day Deborah, the fiery woman from the time of the Old Testament Judges who dared to ask questions, listened for God’s answers, ejected the enemy’s lies, timed her move, and then acted in confident belief without fear — because she knew where she was going.

Since no one is completely fearless, everyone can fear less, and learning to live as a fear fighter is best accomplished in community. Kelly has flung the doors open wide, inviting readers into her story and into a network of like-minded warriors through her website and her blog. (Click to visit!)

Fear fighting is a process and growth happens one step at a time. The question that comes to my mind is this: What would you do to a friend who lied to you as often as your fears have? This helpful filter (p. 64) is a tool for identifying the voice inside your head:

If it woos with the voice of love, it is God.
If it calls you closer to God, it is God.
If it speaks truth, it is God.
If it wants to beat you, tie you, and throw you out back for always being despicable, it is not God.
“Anything not founded in love does not equal God.”
It is no surprise to me that thousands of years ago, Isaiah the prophet also expressed the invitation to become a fear fighter:

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand,” Isaiah 41:10.
In these early days of 2017, it’s a great time to admit to the reality of fears that whisper words of condemnation and failure and to accept the help of others, to learn from their stories, and, most crucially, to enter into the transforming Truth of God’s Word.

"Fear Fighting" is a Christian book filled with essays about accepting God's power to overcome your fears. There are chapters on worry, anxiety, comparison, and the need to be in control.

To be honest, this was not my favorite book. But I also feel this book has the potential to change lives. Let me explain.

The writing was poetic but confusing, like a stream of consciousness. I'm a tactical and logical person and often found myself coming to the end of a chapter knowing little more about taking steps to address fear.

There was a vagueness in the stories presented. I wanted to know more about the personal stories (i.e. "What happened? Why? Did things get better?") and I often didn't know what was going on in a Bible story. I grew up learning the main stories of the Bible but by no means am I a Bible expert. I would've loved to have more background and details.

My favorite concept is the "Pendulum of Pride." The pendulum swings one way and we think we're the greatest. In an instant, it starts to swing the other way and we think we're the worst.

I do this all the time. I'll sign up for activities, excited to try new things and meet new people, feeling like I have something to offer the world. But so often, before the event arrives, the pendulum has swung the other way, and I think that I'm a burden. For the first time in my life, I became deeply aware of this vicious cycle while reading "Fear Fighting."

So many of us hold ourselves back because of our deeply seated fears. Sometimes all we need is someone to show us we're not alone and to give us encouragement and the tools to make that first step. This book can do that. Kelly Balarie shares her struggles and provides prayers and tips. Read an excerpt and see if you enjoy her writing style. If you do, I think you'd like this book.

Have you read a book on overcoming fear that you'd like to share? Let me know!

You gotta know that a book on fear works when you’re finishing up the last few pages in your hallway reading by flashlight waiting out a tornado. Which is what happened to me. Nothing more fitting than a book that encourages you to overcome fear while you’re staring it in the face.

As three tornados touched down in my area that very night, I had the calm assurance that my God would take care of me and my family. When I landed on page 229, the words jumped from the page into my spirit.

“You are always at work. I can trust You. You are doing something. Help me reach out to grab Your hand that is always extended to me, even when I am cowering, shivering, and perspiring in fear. Amen.”

This wasn’t the first tornado I’ve faced nor is it the first tornado of fear I’ve tried to push away. I’ve purchased many books on the subject hoping, praying to be set free from it’s icy grip. Fear has always been there sneaking in the shadows of my mind waiting to my most vulnerable moments to press down on me.

I’ve tried human efforts only to fail multiple times. This book is different. It takes the focus off of your efforts and places them solely on the effort and works of God’s Spirit. This book has opened my eyes and confirmed the supernatural things that I had hoped to be true.

We as Christians have a real force working on our behalf. The battle isn’t determined by our efforts but by our beliefs in that force. Working through the questions at the back of the book were most helpful in realizing the many areas that I’ve put my trust into my own efforts which is futile.

If you’ve found yourself facing your own tornados feeling like your self efforts were at best hopeless, this book is for you. Learn how to replace fear with truth. It’s the only method that really works.

This book will teach you how to allow God’s Spirit to enable you to have the power to defeat your old enemy, fear.

Fear is something we all suffer from. Some fear death, some fear loosing a loved one, some fear finances, the list can go on and on. Fear can control us if we let it, it can ruin our lives causing us to shut people out of our lives but most importantly it can cause us to loose faith in God. I will be the first to say that fear is my worst enemy, fear never leaves me alone, its like that annoying person who you wish would take a hint and leave. But what if we cut the cord with Fear, what would happen? Would we feel free able to carry on a life of meaning, carry on a relationship with God, the One who loves us unconditionally?

There are ways to learn to fight fear and one of those ways is with Kelly Balarie’s new book Fear Fighting: Awakening Courage to Overcome Your Fears. When this book arrived in my mail box, I was apprehensive at first because I have tried a lot of ways to fight fear and nothing was working, but after I began reading Kelly’s story, I knew I could fight fear too. Kelly uses her own personal story along with showing women how to cultivate unstoppable faith by harnessing God’s Word and promptings, prayers to usher in a lasting peace, how to discover clear and immediate action plans, implement daily bravery decrees and participate in a 12-week study to guide that will foster new courageous habits.

Take it from someone who doesn’t feel courageous, who hates change, who lets fear walk over her, that if this book can change her life, it will change yours. Kelly’s book was a life saver for me and it is one that I will keep close by because I know Fear will rear its ugly head and I will be ready to take a stand a not let fear control me any longer.

I received a copy of this book for free, however a favorable review was not required of me and all opinions expressed are my own.

Fear makes sense.

In Kelly Balarie’s book Fear Fighting, we see this firsthand. Very peppy and conversational, Fear Fighting is basically a highly motivational devotional. You’ll find Kelly very real and relatable as a woman who both loves God and struggles with fear.

But what makes this book different is Kelly doesn’t run from fear or call it dumb or doubtful. She doesn’t ask us to scare ourselves out of feeling it.

According to Kelly, living fearlessly isn’t a matter of learning to lock our knocking knees or bite our quivering lips. There is no 5-step plan for us to fear failing at. We don’t have to undertake an intimidating process of becoming someone we’re not. Fear isn’t defeated when we muster up the guts to stare it down…but it loses its power when we fix our eyes on Him.

“We let go of all we are not and see all that God is,” Kelly says. Her proposal is simple: “The Spirit says start. Start fearing God rather than fearing everyone is going to take you down.”*

Kelly knows fear, and she knows we can’t beat it by pretending we can. Instead, she reminds us who can and who has.

Our Savior.

Bravery is fearing God. I love how Kelly brings this truth out.

In the book, you’ll find this message proclaimed loud and clear right alongside stories to illustrate the point and dig deeper. Kelly offers several practical memory devices and strategies to help us fear-fighting readers reorient ourselves to God’s hugeness. At the end of each chapter Kelly also provides “something to chew” to help process her points about fear and faith. Definitely a helpful, encouraging read with the power to be used by God to change lives and embolden hearts.

Kelly Balarie is a cheerleader for Christ, and it shows through in this powerful book. As one who has struggled mightily with the fear of abandonment for decades, this book spoke right to the heart of my trials. Some quotes I enjoyed:

A fear fighter...doesn't fear the truth but voices it, knowing it heals.
(God) doesn't tell you not to feel--or how to feel, for that matter. He doesn't get turbulent, testy, or moody. He reaches out in love, calling you closer to His peace.
I long to be adored because God made me to be adored by Him.

These quotes are healing balm for the sores of abandonment, along with the way she spoke to the 7-year-old version of herself in Chapter 3.

I love the way Kelly interweaves a contemporary God-voice with scripture in her prayers throughout the book. I appreciated her strong emphasis on the work of the Holy Spirit in fighting fear, which tends to be overlooked in most Christian reading material. She provides much practical application for Bible verses, such as a peace equation, stop/drop/roll, and five ways to fight the enemy.

Kelly writes with a powerful, rich, bold voice that empowers you to fight fear with God at your side. A final quote I appreciated for its emphasis on helping others:

This is what fear fighting is all about. We are redoing those faulty neurons that fired when faulty things happened to us in our past. We are digging out old beliefs that lead to quick-fire responses and replacing them with new love that leads others to find new love all for themselves.

Here's to beginning a fear-fighting revolution in 2017!

This is not a book by just an author, it is a book written by a friend. Not just any friend but a friend who has been where you are and one show shares the struggle. Kelly Balarie is a beautiful woman of God who loves the Lord and loves His people and wants to see them free.

Fear has been a serious struggle and stronghold in my life. As I read this book, I heard a friend speaking truth with the love of our Heavenly Father. These words shone God's light into my deep places of darkness. These words brought hope and freedom as I read and I know they will bring that for you too.

Kelly is very real, transparent, and honest. She brings us through the different areas fear is brewed such as, control, people pleasing, rejection, comparison, waiting, our enemy the devil, and yes she even talks about our past. Some chapters were harder to read than others but it is necessary we talk about the real, raw, and hard stuff. That is one thing I love about Kelly is her courage to talk about those things.

This is a must read and a book that we can't just leave on our bookshelves but we need to share and to do bible studies with. That is what I will be doing next. I challenge you to buy your own copy today!!

“Fear Fighting: Awakening the Courage to Overcome Your Fears”. The title alone sounds like a book worth reading, wouldn’t you agree? Written by Kelly Balarie and published by BakerBooks, this Christian Living non-fiction book is a volume that promises to help readers transform into fear fighters, and “women breaking free of trepidation to find bold dedication to God’s peace-, purpose-, and joy-filled callings”.

Without question, there are gems hidden inside the pages of “Fear Fighting” that will speak to your heart and inspire you... The only problem? For me, those gems were very few and far between. Unfortunately, the majority of the book was excessively wordy and rather boring. The author’s personal stories were not often relevant to me, and her thoughts and ideas did not feel fresh or original. While it is clear that she meant well, and is honestly passionate about her subject, this book and I just didn’t connect. Perhaps other readers will find Kelly Balarie’s words to resonate with them on a personal level, but for me, “Fear Fighting” did not capture my interest or inspire me to any noteworthy degree.

I received this book free of charge for review purposes. All opinions expressed are my own.

My friend gave me this book for Christmas when I was having a health scare and I didn’t pick it up until last week at my women’s retreat. I treaded through it almost halfway and decided to pick it up again and then tonight I opened up to where I left off and read this...” we don’t have to be bible Britannia’s; we solely need our new mindset of holy, right and pure. We don’t have to have a bible verse for every worry that surfaces; we just have to stop, drop and roll. “

Okay that bothered me. The author uses a lot of scripture also known as Gods word, God’s promises, God’s truths in context, but gosh I feel like I may be looking too into this, but that sentence bothered me so much I read it like 3x. So Christians put on the mind of Christ which is God’s word. We have to know the word to know who we are in Christ. We can’t have a mindset of holy, right and pure without God’s word. They aren’t just bible verses. I’m
Not sure what she is trying to say here, but I am careful about what I read.

I know we are all on different places on our walk, maybe her audience is still getting to know this stuff? The sentence just bothered me so much I gave up on the whole book together.

"Fear Fighting" is about overcoming feelings of insecurity, shame, failure, and unworthiness. The author used a very pep-talk tone and included many short one-liners like "Let blind faith be your guide" and "Your stain is really your gain." She wrote very poetically, which I realize some people like but I prefer authors to be clear about their meaning. She could also get wordy, and I sometimes lost track of what her point was by the end of a poetical passage. So this wasn't my favorite writing style, but others may love it.

The overall idea seemed to be that, if we follow God's ways and humble ourselves, the result is a courageous, bold, Spirit-led life. That we just need to take courage and fear will fall away because God is eagerly waiting to rescue us if we ask for help. She had some good points and suggested some things you can do. But I guess I was hoping for more focus on Bible verses than on pep and metaphors.

In this world, I know no one who doesn't have some kind of struggle with fear. I know that struggle well, and so does Kelly Balarie. She writes from her own personal experiences, showing us how to trust in the Spirit of God and allow Him to turn us into courageous fear fighters. I enjoyed her personal stories as well as stories of people God brought in her life, and there was much I could relate to. I especially needed the chapter on the devil and his lies. Very helpful! I believe this book will help any believer, regardless of the source of your fears.

We all struggle with fear at some point. Kelly Balarie shares not only how to overcome fear but how to live courageously. She isn't just blindly telling us what to do, but she shares her own personal stories of fear and how she learned to fight fear with faith. At the end of the book are discussion questions that are great for personal study or group study.

“If you spend your whole life grasping for happy in the future, you'll end up missing God's transformation in the present.”

Fear Fighting is a book that couldn't have been more important for me to read. As a self-proclaimed worry wart, I couldn't think of a better thing to read. This book is full of essays about how to use God's power to overcome your fears. There are chapters which deal with worry, compassion, and anxiety. The fear of being out of control, and the need to be in control is deeply discussed in this book.

This was a helpful book for me, but it wasn't without its challenges. This book may not be for everyone, but it may help others so don't let the poetic writing style turn you off of this book.

At times the writing style was challenging. It was somewhat frustrating at points also. In some of the stories, there is so much vagueness and ambiguity; I had a hard time understanding how exactly to face the fear, overcome the fear, essentially how to address it. I will say I enjoyed all of the bible stories that were presented in this book.

I enjoyed the part about how we often swing from thinking we are the greatest to believing that we are the worst. It is very wishy-washy but is something I struggle with all the time. If I do something wrong, then I feel like the worst person in the world or a burden to my family. Other days I feel on top of the world. So the "Pendulum of Pride," was something that affected me.

Another passage that had a profound effect on me was the following:

“You are always at work. I can trust You. You are doing something. Help me reach out to grab Your hand that is always extended to me, even when I am cowering, shivering, and perspiring in fear. Amen.”

This is a prayer I regularly need to say. I need to take these words to heart. This book will teach you how to embrace the power of God's Spirit. Then use this to defeat the fear inside you.

Fear Fighting (the book) ends on page 182. From page 182 to page 231 is the study guide.

It is frustrating that I cannot quote from the book, because it is a advanced reader copy and changes may have occurred after final printing. I plan to work around this by giving a summary of Balarie's points.

In the introduction, Balarie asks if fear is holding us back from our God calling?

Fear is the common reason so many of us never get out of the starting gate. We are petrified of where God will take us. We are afraid of what changes in life will occur. We are most afraid of failure.

With an engaging writing style and a sense of humor, Balarie takes us on a journey in how to deal with fear.

I'm snickering as I type this, because it is not funny, but seriously true (of me): life is not about us.

I read recently (somewhere else) about how many times a human thinks about him or herself in a day, it's in the many thousands of times. I was shocked at first to read that, but I believe it to be true. Self is always on our mind, but it should be God who is always on our mind.

Another point Balarie brings is our thoughts are constantly thinking about future uncertainties. For example: What if such and such happens? She encourages us to change that perspective and be set free by a God focus of letting Him have control.

Deborah is an example of an old testament character who is used for teaching and illustration. She was a vibrant strong woman.

I was most interested to read about how to deal with past trauma. Satan prefers we live in the past. To live in shame and regret. She teaches that it is the Spirit who must dominate our self, because Satan's fiery darts cannot penetrate Him. This topic of regret follows through to later chapters.

Balarie's writing style is similar to other current female writers, it has a tone of trying to be engaging through wit. A little of this is okay, but after a while it becomes silly. Maybe it is a generational thing. I have noticed this trend and believe it must work for reading audiences as a whole.

One of the last statements in the book is "...His healing is today." I disagree. God's healing is for yesterday and today. God's healing is for all days.

Midway through the book, Balarie gives helpful applications. However, at the end of each chapter is a section titled: "Something To Chew On."

Sample chapters are on control, hating the past, comparing self to others, and fear of the future.

Fighting Fear, by Kelly Balarie's cover appealed to me. Simple and clean.

At first I wondered how much of the book I would relate to, since I am not a particularly fearful, anxious person, but as I read the chapters, author Kelly Balarie pointed out areas where I could identify fear, in areas that I did not even know were there.

This book deals with the lies we believe about ourselves and about life in general. The chapter that I laughed at, only because I could relate to it so well, was the chapter on letting go of control! We control, because of fear! Wow! Wake up call there.

Even more than identifying places in life where we let fear have way too much of us, was the highlight on what GOD's truth says about us, about who we are in Christ. Sometimes, even if you have been a believer your whole life, you need a good reminder, and a reminder that you can relate to in practical terms.

Along the way the author shares her personal story which enhances the book, makes the reader relate to it on a personal level.

I would've given this review 3.5 stars if possible. I liked the content more than I enjoyed the authors writing style. This was definitely a useful book for tackling a difficult subject that many women face-fear. Balarie does a good job of bringing up some of those struggles that we do battle with on a daily basis but seem to keep to ourselves. They are things like how we compare ourselves to one another, insecurities, anxiety, and fear over things that will never happen. She doesn't claim to have it all resolved herself but rather points out her own personal experiences and things she has learned while walking in faith with Jesus to overcome her fears and anxieties one day at a time until they become habits. The only downside (which didn't stop me from reading it all the way through) was that in her writing style she lost me a few times in a couple of the chapters. I didn't quite follow what she was saying. At the end of the book there are some good thought-provoking questions. One could get a lot from the study questions if you answer them honestly coupled with some personal meditation.

I just want to start off with saying, Kelly Balarie is one of those individuals that, if you hear her speak, you will be moved. She is full of a joy that can only be given by the Spirit and her willingness to share her heart will have an impact on you, period.

Now, why only four stars? Well, this book is perfect for those who know what fear is - who really struggle with the anxieties that come from the unknown and the what ifs, and are looking for some encouragement along the way. And there have been seasons in my life when I knew this, and I am willing to bet, there will be more in my future, but when I was reading this, I had learned to lean wholly on the One who can support me and wash away my fears. And as a result, it didn't hold the same punch I had hoped for - but do not read that as it won't for you - because my bet is, if you are searching for some kind of encouragement through fear, this will bring you a courage and a comfort you never knew you could have.

So, yes, this is a great book.

While I put up an actual review on my blog, I will only speak on a small point here... the fact that while there are some practical steps in this book - I mean there's a 12-week study included for you to work through with your friends - there is a small section that is, I believe, at the heart of why this book is worth keeping on your shelves:

Early in the book, I believe it's like, page 55... Kelly talks about how we can be insecure in the promise God has given us, that He will be there with us, that He has given us His power to push through any what if/fears/insecurities, and that even if we stumble through it, He will love us completely. You see, most fears come from the what if I fail, and then no one wants me or loves me... And how if we could only go back in time to reassure our younger selves of the fact we got through, we wouldn't be so fearful... but lessons like this have to be learned by doing... by living...

And that is why so many people might be crushed, because while this book is honest, in the end, you will have to pick up your eyes and focus in on the One who has all the power, and the One who promises to reside in you to provide for all your needs. And Kelly spends the majority of the book encouraging you to do just that. Lean into to God, and allow Him to be your Superpower source so you can charge through the fears of life, and enjoy the blessings waiting for you right here.

Just be prepared, this is a book of encouragement, and suggestions, that will challenge you. And if that is something that could help you get through any fear you are dealing with, then do not hesitate to get your hands on this book, and curl up somewhere with it. Maybe even call a few friends to study it with.

3.5 stars. This book has some good reminders about what God says about fears and insecurities (no need for them if you rest in Him) but the author didn’t say much I haven’t heard before. It would be good for new Christians or as a refresher or maybe even a Book club/Bible study discussion starter but just giving it a read through was alright- definitely not bad but nothing exceptionally great.

Not quite like I hoped for and expected. It was “ok.” Perhaps if I read in a different season of life it would encourage me more.

Fear Fighting: Awakening Courage To Overcome Your Fears by Kelly Balarie is a heavy dose of encouragement for women who are working hard to move past their fears with God's help.

First, Kelly walks with us, hand in hand, as she unveils various circumstances that push us over the edge and falling to our knees screaming for help. God's help. And she gently reminds us that He's always there, just waiting for us to call on Him and come begging and crying to Him when life gets overwhelming and our fear factors start to cave in on us.

What fears? The fears we all deal with almost every day, some just to a greater extent than another. Kelly doesn't directly address the fears, per se. Instead, she walks us through the eight "fear-inducers". Feelings and conditions that keep us chained to and drowning in our fear...

1) The Devil
2) Control
3) People Pleasing
4) Worry
5) Comparison and Competition
6) Waiting
7) Rejection and Opposition
8) The Past

Kelly weaves anecdotes in with scripture, Bible stories, and other insights to share with us the common trials engaged by each of the fear-inducers, as well as ways to move past them and get on with our lives - for the better. Helpful Bible verses and affirmations are in bold print throughout each chapter, encouraging you to take note and memorize or post these thoughts somewhere where you'll see and read them everyday.

Each chapter ends with "something to chew on", which gives you a thought or idea to focus on. The end of the book contains a group study guide, which thoughts, focal points, and questions to go along with each chapter. This study guide would work for individual study as well.

This book is not an intense workbook or Bible study. Instead it is an easy-to-read, close-to-the-heart dose of encouragement and renewal to keep you focused on God and moving forward, letting God turn all of your fears into blessings for you, His precious daughter. 4/5 stars.

Fear Fighting by Kelly Balarie was a book I didn't expect to find very helpful. Perhaps it was the title; I wouldn't describe my life as filled with fear or seeking the courage to overcome a fear, as the subtitle suggests. So I read Part 1 (the first 3 chapters) thinking, "Yeah, this book might be helpful for someone else, going through something really challenging or trying to overcome a big obstacle in their life, but not me."

THEN came Part 2 - "Spirit Arising: Demolishing the Eight Fear Inducers." I couldn't have been more wrong in my early assessment of this book. Chapter 4 blew me away! Loaded with Scripture references, Balarie teaches the reader how to pray through some powerful portions of the Bible like Ephesians 6:14-17 and Romans 8. She teaches the reader how to overcome the lies that we let the enemy sneak into our minds. Then for the TKO she lists 10 things the devil wants you to believe, and I found myself identifying with each and every one of them. Yikes! This book is most certainly for me! And that's just Chapter 4! Balarie goes on exploring issues like control, people-pleasing, dwelling in the past, and more.

Ignore the title of this book - I would encourage everyone to pick up Fear Fighting and give it a chance. Even if you only identify with a few chapters here and there, you will surely be blessed for discovering the lessons this book teaches on letting go of the lies we hold onto and embracing biblical truth in every area of our lives.

Wow! I decided to read this book to help a couple friends who I think have a definite fear problem. what I wasn't prepared for is the fact that this book helped to bring to the forefront a few issues I have with fear that I was either ignoring or just plan unaware of! The author is compassionate in her approach to make you really dig deep inside of you to find those hidden areas that give you fear. I have so many pages that are just filled with my pink highlighter and written notes that it would be hard to pass on to someone else. It became more of a text book for me rather than a "nice book to read". I would recommend this book wholeheartedly!

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review. I was not asked for a positive review, but I couldn't imagine not saying what a great book this was for me at this season of my life.

`Fear Fighting` is a women's Christian living book written by author Kelly Balarie. Kelly Balarie knows the subject matter well as she has lived what she writes. I have been in some of the same places so as I read I had tears of sorrow as well as those of joy, knowing I am walking close to God.

Kelly is a featured writer at Crosswalk.com and iBelieve.com. Her goal is to help the reader walk through hard times and come out victorious on the other side. I was pleased to see some very familiar names have endorsed this book.

Every chapter has a quote of its own and my favorite one is on page 110. `Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. (Judy Garland) There is also a twelve-week study challenge which would be perfect for a woman's Bible study or done individually.

The script that had played over and over in Kelly's mind reminded me of my own. `I am not valuable. I am unworthy. I deserve to be sick.` This same script played over and over in my mind on a daily basis. Ruining my marriage, my friendships, and my life. Until I realized this script wasn't worth it. That's when I gave those negative thoughts to God. Now I spend my precious moments thinking the thoughts God would have me think. I like Kelly's quote on page 53, `When we have nothing left to give we quickly realize we have everything to gain.`

There are two parts in this book. Part one is when we realize we need help. Part two shows us how to demolish the fear inducers. The author's position is that the devil can bring trials to us, it is up to us to choose our reaction.

This book was originally written for women so it focuses on women. I feel like the author has considered the discussions from all angles. Not only does she state what the devil can do. She also states what God can do if we let Him. He is our Abba Daddy (Romans 8:15). If we wait for Him we will be strong (Psalm 27:14) (see page 68).

As much as I liked this book, it was hard to put down, I didn't like the sexual abuse she spoke of. I'm sure it may need to be said but maybe not as open as it is. This was my only problem with the book.
