Two of my boys rushed to the check out desk.
"Mrs. Hesterman, do you have any more Minecraft books??!!"
I replied, "Guys, you know we are always out of Minecraft. You gotta put them on hold."
"OK, but do you have any DanTDM????
"WHO?"
"DanTDM."
"Say it slower."
"Dannnn T----D----M"
"Never heard of him."

So, these boys convinced me that we needed DanTDM's new book in the Lib and FAST! It couples two of my students' favorite loves: Minecraft and graphic novels. While I am not sure I am able to rate the book honestly, I know my students will love it!! This will become another Minecraft book that only occupies our hold shelf. I don't see it ever being in the Lib long enough to be shelved with graphic novels. Listen to your students! They help build your collection!

Trayaurus and the Enchanted Crystal by Dan Middleton aka DanTDM is a the best book I have ever read.The book is about Dan and his friend Trayaurus. That night they find something falling from the sky which exploded in the air. After one of the large fragments of the crystal lands in their lab they start to experiment on it and figure out that the crystal is an enchanted crystal that contains high signals of electricity and is very dangerous. I liked the book because it was fun reading a book from a youtuber that wrote his first book and also that it has a lot of sci-fi stuff in it like clones and a p-gun that places things back at their base. I recommend this book to my brother because it has some of the things he likes.

This book reads like it was written by a 10-year-old boy, (which is probably the audience it was intended for, not a 40-year-old woman with only a nodding acquaintance with minecraft videos) it has huge plot holes and seriously flawed logic, and the art is not that great either, particularly the perspective is off, I could never tell how large something was supposed to be except through the text even when the object/character in question was juxtaposed in the picture with another object. On the plus side there was a lot of action and a little bit of humor that worked, but those things were not strong enough to save it.

My son is a huge fan of YouTuber DanTDM, so of course we had to get this book. The Enchanted Crystal is way better than I would expect from an online celebrity, with nice illustrations and fun characters. However, the story is rather predictable and drags in places. Then again, it's unfair to compare this to some of my favorite graphic novels like V for Vendetta.

If you have kids who like DanTDM or Minecraft, I can recommend this title. Keep in mind it's not an "official" Minecraft book but some of the art is reminiscent of that game. The deal with my son is he gets to choose one book for every one I assign him. I therefore got him to start reading Tom Sawyer after the Enchanted Crystal, so all in all it was a win-win situation.

I loved the book “Trayaurus and the Enchanted Crystal”. It was made by one of my favourite Youtubers named DanTDM or “The Diamond Minecart”. The characters are: DanTDM who is a happy and enthusiastic individual who loves adventures, Dr.Trayaurus or Trayaurus who is a budding scientist who started mixing chemicals and other liquids at a young age, Grim, DanTDM’s dog, Denton the evil scientist who is Dan and Trayaurus’ enemy, Fin the largest of the elves who helps Denton with all his evil experiments and the pigs.
The adventure starts off in Trayaurus’ lab and Dan is fighting a blob accidentally created by Trayaurus. Soon after destroying the blob this crystal came out of the sky and shattered everywhere! One of the pieces were in the lab. They tested it with a special device and they found out that it had a lot of power. At the same time, Denton found a crystal piece and tested it as well. Denton called his trustee assistant, Fin, and they discovered that the crystal had a lot of power too. They placed it in their cloning machine and it made a replica. Soon Denton noticed that there were more pieces to the crystal, so, they went off to find them. On the other side, Dan, Trayaurus, and Grim ventured off to find the crystals as well. While walking, Dan found pigs and one of them could talk. They noticed that the pig had a crystal necklace around her neck. The pigs joined them and helped them find the remaining pieces. Now I shall stop for no more spoilers.
Honestly, I have to say that this is a really good book and I would highly recommend it for a person at any age. I also like how the author shows each of the characters’ description and includes a letter to the TeamTDM members before the novel begins.
I agree with the author's theme, ‘Greed is bad’ because it teaches us about friendship and how greed tears it apart. The genre of the book is adventure. In this story, there are good and bad intentions as one of the characters wanted the crystal for science and the other wanted it for taking over the world. I truly believe the author did a great job because it is enjoyable and is a marvelous book for kids and adults to read.

This book was great. I think the theme of it is never give up. It really shows through in this book. When Trayaurus and the pigs are kidnapped Dan feels like he can't help them. But then he turns around and goes after them. He doesn't give up on getting his friends back.

Very cute. Read it with my 6 year-old and he loved it. Simple plot. Lots of words he could sound out so we could take turns reading. Fun story and very age appropriate.

Trayaurus, a clumsy scientist, and his best friend Dan are the good guys who cross paths with Denton, an evil scientist, whose minions are elves, because Denton built his lab over their settlement and they needed a home. Why the elves didn’t revolt and try to overthrow Denton is beyond me, the book doesn’t explain their weird loyalty. A crystal drops to earth and shatters, and the scientists race to get the pieces because they contain massive amounts of energy. A pig finds a piece of the crystal, which just happens to be made into a necklace, and puts it on and can speak. The pig has attitude, but helps Trayaurus and Dan as they try to stop Denton from getting all the pieces to the crystal.

I wanted to like this book because I enjoy graphic novels but there is about as much plot in this book as there is in a Mine Craft game. The backstory is never explained and we know Denton will win because in the introduction it says that Trayaurus and Dan always make things work out. Curl up with a good comic book ¼ this size for 5x’s the plot for your graphic novel fix.

HA! I didn't expect to like this graphic novel as much as I did. It was a nice surprise, because I just didn't get it at first. Very cute story, and I LOVE the pigs!!! The kids at my library are going to eat this one up!

This is the book you buy for reluctant readers, its a cross between minecraft and a graphic
novel. It reminded me of Dav Pilky's Captain Underpants, its simplistic and easy to follow, its a feel-good heroic tale with great, bright artwork and Dan's catchphrases scattered through the text.

This book is the best book. It is so good and I love it! Dantdm had done it again. This book is about five enchanted crystals missing and their mission is to find all five before they get into the wrong hands. I recommend this book to people who love adventures and Dantdm fans.

This book is about a scientist named Dan and his best friend Trayaurus. After some mysterious enchanted crystals fall from the sky, Dan and Trayaurus must race to find the crystals before their evil nemesis, Denton, finds it and uses the power of the crystals for his evil plans. Will Dan and Trayaurus be able to save the world from the evil Denton?

Personally, I did not enjoy this book as much as other's; however, I think that any elementary aged child will love this book! It's humor is very much intended for anyone under 12, and because it is based on a prominent youtuber, kids will eat this book up.

This book is the absolute perfect book for any student who spends a lot of his time watching youtube or playing games on the internet. The writer is prominently featured on youtube, and it would be very encouraging for kids to have their passion collide with a book.

At the beginning of the book, Dan killed a jelly monster that Trayaurus made to be a new pet but tried to eat them both. Then a crystal from space was falling from the sky and broke into 5 pieces and one of the pieces fell and hit Dan and Trayaurus's lab.
In the middle of the book Denton arrived and stole one of the crystals from DanTDM and took it to his lair and connects the crystal to a machine that collects its power,So Denton used the crystals power to make clones.
At the end of the book fin helps Dan and Trayaurus to take away all the clones.Dan asks Fin if he wanted to come to the lab but refused to fix the lair.The day was saved thanks to dan and Fin.

Cute book. Pretty easy for a child to follow, would be a great graphic for a fan of Dan TDM (as my child is). We read the book together. I even did voices, imitating Dan's as best as possible (I do a great British accent). The *only* complaints I had was that the story could get slow at times (but Dan's a first time author! It's totally natural. His second book will be more awesome) and the art was so rudimentary. I was hoping Dan would have gotten a bang up artist like Raina Telgemeier or perhaps even let one of his *amazingly* talented fans try their hand at one storyboard, but this looks a little too basic. Oh well. My kid LOVED it and I admit, if he writes a second, we'll get it.

Fun, but quite underwhelming. Granted, I am an adult, who knows very little about minecraft (I got the impression that this book was related to the video game, or perhaps that is just the author who is, I didn't really get that vibe from the story), yet it felt like a half hour boy's animated cartoon. (with a number of it's own logical fallacies.) My 7 year old, who got the book, seemed to like it okay, but I didn't get the sense that he loved it.

Do you know who DanTDM is? Or maybe you might know Dr. Trayaurus? Dan and Trayaurus are on a quest to protect the enchanted crystal from evil doers. They find a talking pig that has a bad attitude. And Grim is just to cute. Will they save the world or will they be their downfall? This is a great book for DanTDM fans.

Trayaurus and Dan fight the evil in the world, especially evil clone making Denton, who suspiciously looks just like Dr. Trayaurus, except scruffier and a black and red lab coat instead of the usual white one. Looks like there could be more adventures with this duo and the talking pigs, Grim and maybe some clumsy aliens.

Something nice first- the book is colorful. On the other hand, the dialog is terrible, all the characters are unmemorable (except maybe the talking pig), and the plot is dull as dirt and chock full of holes. I think this is a book that will only appeal to readers who are already fans of DanTDM, but I am praying it has slightly wider appeal among the 8-10 year olds in my bookclub!

A solid read for kids who are into Minecraft. The bad guys look fairly similar to the good guys - not, like, sinister and dressed in black with goatees or anything - so I was missing the visual cue about WHY you're not supposed to like them. They all just look like Minecraft characters, I guess!
