I never paid much attention to Shoe back in the day but these are pretty good. Some birds form an underground newspaper. MacNelly has a sharper sense of humor than a lot of newspaper cartoons and is a great artist. The Professor has a nice pattern on his jacket and there are exquisite trees in like every other panel.

My memories of these from 40 years ago was much more enjoyable than the reality of the book itself.
I got a few chuckles and some reminiscences, but in general, not all that entertaining.
