This is a true tour-de-force by a very talented author. Hurston captures the dynamics of relationships, privelege, race, and true love in a lyrically beautiful way. Although the colloquial speech patterns can be off-putting to struggling readers or readers unfamiliar with southern African-American dialect, it is well worth the effort.
