Yamamoto Industries has made an astonishing discovery, one that will change the future of humanity. Our star has finally given up her most closely guarded secret, a secret that will enable travellers to voyage back in time, to a land where dinosaurs rule the earth. After decades of preparation and construction, Yamamoto Industries are ready to unveil their discovery to the world. Unbeknownst to every teenager across the globe, they have been entered into an incredible competition. The winners have been chosen, five remarkable young adults, all of whom have achieved amazing accomplishments. The Jurassic Five will be the first tourists to voyage back to Jurassic Earth. This world is no game. Carnivore or herbivore, there are animals that will eat you whole, crush you for invading their territory, drag you into the ocean or whisk you away from above. In this world, everything is lethal. The tour guides have a saying to encourage visitors to obey the rules, “You can have the best time of your life or the last time of your life.” Yamamoto Industries have made every effort to create excursions and experiences free from danger, in which tourists can enjoy the spectacles from a safe distance. But, after a freak accident, the Jurassic Five are left stranded in a hostile world, where death has already begun hunting them with ruthless efficiency. They must now fight to survive against overwhelming odds, in a terrifying alien world.
There were some echoes of Jurassic Park but I really liked that some of the people had major respect for the dinosaurs! Yeah it was an exploitation of kids for money Capitalism but, this time they were more prepared and did a lot of research. The science was different but plausible at least to the reader, I have no idea if it would really work but time travel is still fun reading. It seems even the creator had feelings and was devastated by the accidents but.. it speaks well in the last section of the book that he’s sparing no expense so there will be a second book!
Great book. Lots of heroes. Let's hear it for the Jurassic Five. Sometimes it takes dinosaurs and danger to form friendships that can last a lifetime. And did ya know dinosaurs grieve? I did notice the author got the time periods right...no T-Rex in the Jurassic era, but don't you just love the big A? Allosaurus? Great book. Have fun. Left ending open for another adventure. Can't wait.
A good read for something quick and cheap, but it won't scratch that dinosaur itch.
Full disclaimer, I picked this up for $1 on my Kindle so my review will have influence from that fact.
A good thing too, becuase if I paid full price for this book, I'd be severely disappointed. Firstly, there are some noticeable grammar and spelling errors and that's all I'll say about that; editing was not good.
As for the story, it was full of glaring stereotypes and clichés which I found quite forced and unimaginative. The characters were rather dull and predictable and acted to only fill generic roles that are familiar to generic disaster plots. Their interactions between each other were unsophisticated and bland, but there was some good use of humour and believable reactions to the situations presented to them.
I quite liked the science of time travel in this; it was simple and enough to move the plot forward, but will definitely keep time travel enthusiasts pointing their fingers. The action sequences were also rather well played out and had some interesting twists.
Mr Stark should also be recognised for taking some risks, specifically with the introduction of a strange, original animal that populated this prehistoric era, even though it wasn't to my liking and felt out of place (to me at least), it added something a little unique to the dinosaur formula. Having said that, more fleshed out dinosaur interactions would have been far more welcomed, particularly using dinosaurs that were from that time period (I'm a huge dino nerd, couldn't help but mention it; it's a minor point though)
Overall, a quick little read that I picked up cheap, but I won't be recommending it as a suitable dinosaur thriller to anyone.
Do you know how hard it is to find a decent dinosaur book ? A story that makes at least some kind of sense in the science fiction world ? My answer : real hard. But this one ? Loved it. The story takes a little time to start, the actual time travel into a dinosaur world only happens around 1/3 of the book, but it's worth the wait ! What is there to love in this book ? Everything. The characters I rooted for all along, the dinosaur encounters which were well-written, all is there for a great story. I only wished the book was longer. I'm gonna be reading the second book very soon. Recommended for any dino lovers !
I very much enjoyed reading this book. Talented teenagers given the chance of going back to the Jurassic Period of time where unfortunately everything unforseen goes wrong. Some of the slang words are not normally used in the USA, but they are easy to interpret and there are a few editing errors but this book is fun! Five stars from me!
5 teens get chosen for a trip back to the Jurassic period. Once there the adventure turns into a nightmare when they crash on Jurassic earth. Most important the dinosaurs are believable (no feathers) I'll give Mr. Stark 5 stars just for that make it 10. Can't wait for the sequel.
First, let me state that science fiction is far from my favorite, BUT I must say that this book begged to be read. It's not a story that keeps you up all night but it is interesting and the characters are believable. There is plenty of action and there are twists and turns until the end. I have already purchased book two of the trilogy.
