So what is A Bond of Venom And Magic?

Not your pretty dresses and big parties YA fantasy, where one Prince smirks as the other smolders and both hope to dance with the "clumsy and average-looking" heroine who takes their breath away. And most definitely not your Mary-Sue's lost in the wild again with beautiful saviors come to fight over her affections. Nope. Nope. Nope. (Sorry if you like that sort of thing, I understand completely - we all enjoy our favorite snack foods, right?)

Well, if you want

Diamond is a half blood fae who suddenly finds out shes being hunted by the Wraith Lord. Her only chance at avoiding the beasts hunting her is making it to a city where half bloods like her have no rights. I thought it was smart how the author started the story with Diamonds fathers perspective because it gave us a chance to get closer to him before the Seeker attack. It helped me be more invested in his fate. The different creepy creatures were fascinating but the fight scenes didnt feel as int ...more

An action packed fantasy adventure with phenomenal world building.

“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, tonight or any night, queen or no queen.”

I had the pleasure of reading an advanced copy of Karen Tomlinson’s A Bond of Venom and Magic, which releases this October.

Lately I have not had much luck with indie books, but you can tell that Karen Tomlinson has put in the work to make A Bond of Venom and Magic one of the most well-polished indie novels I have read since Elise Kova’s

Thanks to the author of this marvelous book for providing an ARC for me. This in no way influences my thoughts on it.

A Bond of Venom and Magic is one of the best YA Fantasy debuts I have read, like ever. It's bewitching, I fell in love with all the characters from the very beginning. It is very easy to relate with the characters and understand them. For

DNF at 29% because I faced two main problems with this book: it reads with all the weaknesses of a debut book from a debut author and the blurb marketing was garbage.

This book has a lot of four and five star reviews...which tend to correlate with folks who personally received ARCs, I noticed. Question, then: in general and not necessarily aimed at this book alone, why do so many ARC reviews inflate the merit of average books? Are we scared to hurt the authors' feelings by pointing out the flaws?

***** 5 Cranky Stars *****

When I turned the last page, I was disappointed that the book had ended. This was a brilliant read and I think that the author has set a very high bar for herself and her follow up novels.

This is the story of Diamond, the beautiful fae and human mixed blood of the war torn Avalonia.

Ruled by the immortal and evil fae queen, mixed bloods are reviled and have no rights in Avalonia by decree of the queen.

However the Lord of the Wraiths wants Diamond dead and he wants the

I voluntarily reviewed a copy from the "Rachel E. Carter" YA Book Club on Goodreads

The cover and the summary blob of the book was what got me hooked to it. I was able to get the ARC and I'm grateful for that. This book was entertaining overall. However, it did have some issues and the story, to me, was a bit confusing. Or maybe, the way it was written. It took me a while to see things clearly. I have tons of questions. The pacing isn't super fast but, it is not slow either...somewhere in-betwe

I received an ARC of A Bond of Venom and Magic in exchange for an honest review.

A Bond of Venom and Magic, book one in the Goddess and the Guardians series, is a strong start to what could be a great series. The plot follows a young halfbreed (half human, half fae), Diamond Gillon, who lives in the peaceful town of Berriesford with her fae father. Diamond's existence has been rough due to her mixed blood, but, when compared to other halfbreeds, she leads a fairly decent life. That life is turn

Right, so I've had a few days to think about it, and I've come to conclusion that overall, I really enjoyed A Bond of Venom and Magic, but I did have a few issues, which I'll be discussing below. This review will be another of my what I liked/what I didn't like.

Alright, what I liked:

The world was very interesting, and there are heaps, yes, HEAPS of fight scenes/dramatic moments. This plot is certainly emotionally driven, and whilst I had some prob

Let me first tell you that holy crap the synopsis of this book sounds freaking amazing and it made me sooo excited to read this book. And in many ways, this book definitely lived up to my high expectations.

Alright so, A Bond of Venom and Magic starts out with Diamond Gillon, who's half fae, half human.

I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED A COPY FROM THE "RACHEL E. CARTER YA BOOK CLUB" ON GOODREADS.

I needed some time to think about this one. In general I really liked it. It is very well written and easy to read. I loved the main characters.. especially Hugo and I loved every scene he was in. I was speeding through the first bit, not willing to put it down, but unfortunately life gets in the way.

However, the story became a bit slower in the middle, which is not a problem if the main character, Diamond, wasn

This book was too melodramatic.

It started with a bang and then just spiraled out of control. Diamond is half-human, half-fae girl, something considered taboo in the fae kingdom. She is attacked by something called "Seekers" and she narrowly escapes while her dad is killed. Hugo, a commander for the queen, was among the people that came to her rescue. This is where everything went downhill.

Magic use in the land is forbidden and anyone who does it is thrown into the dungeon and killed by the queen

First things first - this book has perhaps the most infuriating cliffhanger I have experienced in a while. Mostly because it leaves things unresolved between the two main characters, and that is so frustrating. I sincerely hope the next book is going to be published soon, because I'm already tearing my hair out in suspense.

Diamond Gillon is a half-breed, raised in a small village away from the vindictive eyes of the Queen. When the village is attacked and her father murdered, she comes under the

I loved this book!! It's been a while since I wanted to reach into a book and strangle a character, but by the end that's exactly what I wanted to do to one of the characters, which I feel is a great sign that the author is doing something right. The relationship between Diamond and Hugo is nothing but complicated, yet as a reader I didn't feel that was a problem. If anything, it kept the story intriguing as you don't know what's going to happen next. If you're looking for your next book boyfrie ...more

A Bond of Magic and Venom follows the heroine, Diamond, as she comes into her newly found power and tries to save her world from dark evil.

Everything seemed to happen to conveniently in this book. All of her life she has never had powers, but all of a sudden she’s able to use those powers perfectly without any practice and she’s unfazed? Hmm sounds a bit like lazy plot convenience to me.

In all honesty, the plot of this book wasn’t bad and I found it occasionally interesting, however there was j

I LOVED this book.

Before ABOVAM, I DNFed 5 books. It was terrible and I thought my world was ending.

Diamond is a ousted half-fae that has lived in a small village her whole life with her father. I believe this gif accurately sum's up her life pretty well:

In comes her adventure when the fae queen's minions swoop in and kill her father- with an attempt to kill her as well. It is only the Queen's guard, Hugo, that saves her from a dire fate. Why? She doesn't know...and neither does she for that m

Karen Tomlinson is the USA Today Bestselling author of The Goddess and the Guardians YA fantasy books.

Karen adores books and will read any genre that catches her eye. She was whisked away by fairies as a child, has been a dragon rider and grew up learning to fight. (This bit’s true!) She likes nothing better than an epic fantasy full of hot warriors and romance especially when it is set in a magic
