This one is perhaps the best migraine book I have read. For migraine sufferers, The Keeler Migraine Method provides the most up-to-date migraine science available in understandable language. It is unbelievably thorough--with perhaps the best explanation of triptan drug differences put forth by any doctor. Finally, Dr. Cowan makes the migraneur feel a part of a community of sufferers, and puts him on a path toward a better life. He himself is a migraine sufferer, and writes with an endearing, self-depricating wit. This is my current migraine bible!
Fyi... his method involves a lot of abortive medication. Dr. Buchholz (Heal Your Headache) argues vehemently to the contrary. It really helped me get a well-rounded opinion on abortives and their potential rebound by reading both books.

Definitely some good stuff to get out of this book, but nothing so revolutionary. I've read pretty much all the same information in various other books, but this does have a good plan to follow and back up methods, as well as some prevention ideas. Overall, it's solid. I'll be using the sleep pattern method of prevention and starting on some magnesium again after reading this one.

The most comprehensive book on migraines I've read. I've never felt so understood regarding this chronic illness that I've battled for more than 30 years.

Genuinely revelatory read for me, and I hope for my future with migraine. Lots of new understandings and ideas about how to improve my prevention/avoidance/rescue plans.

Good read for anyone who wants to understand their migraines better
Dr Cowan takes this usually neglected subject and weaves a powerful story of living and dealing with migraines - being a migraineur himself. He shows how you can live with migraines (and still have a goos life) using the three step process of lifestyle modification, prevention and rescue. He describes how you can create a support structure using your doctor and your family.

Was hoping for more explanations of migraine causes but it just seems to come down to "anything - just pay attention to yourself/ your own triggers." Well OK then.
The only reason I gave it 3 stars not 2 is because it has REALLY clear critical comparisons of the chemical constitution and effect of various migraine medicines which I've never seen elsewhere.
