A sudden change in Council leadership puts not only the Crosses but the timeline itself at risk. The new Council no longer wants to protect time, they want to reshape it -- starting with the birth of America during the Revolutionary War. However, that isn't the only birth they plan on stopping. For their ultimate plan to work, Charlotte Cross must never be born.
Friends old and new join forces to save Elizabeth and Charlotte and keep the world they know from being erased from history.
Monique was born in Houston, Texas, but her family soon moved to Southern California. She grew up on both coasts, living in Connecticut and California. She currently resides in Southern California with her naughty Siamese cat, Monkey.
Monique attended the University of Southern California's Film School where she earned a BFA from the Filmic Writing department. Monique worked in television for several years before joining the family business. She now works full-time as a freelance writer and novelist. Her novels Out of Time, When the Walls Fell, Fragments & The Devil's Due are the first three books in the Out of Time series.
She's currently working on an adaptation of one of her screenplays, her father's memoirs about his time in the Air Force's Air Rescue Service and the next book in the Out of Time series.
The Crosses and their friends have to travel back to the American Revolution to defeat enemies from within the Council for Temporal Studies.
Although I did like this installment of the series I found the split between the Crosses, Jack and Victor all of whom are in different countries trying to stop their enemies made it a difficult book to get into. Also, it seemed as if there was a lot of the book spent leading up to the travel to the American Revolution and not an awful lot IN that time. Then their actions somehow made everything ok again - why?
Although this is the tenth book in the series, this was my first exposure to the characters from the OUT OF TIME series. And what a great introduction it was. I want to now go back and start at the first book in the series.
The characters, writing, setting and story arc are all wonderfully composed, but I was also fascinated with the historical elements to the novel, as it also perked by curiosity to learn more about the period it was set in.
In all, great writing, great narrator for the audio-book and am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Love love her Out of Time series of books and just finished the last one. The characters, plots, romance and history thrown in makes for brilliant story telling and I devoured them. Hoping for more of the same. Am now reading Jacks are Wild (abt one of the time traveler characters introduced in the Out of Time series ) and love this character too. Looks Like 2 books with him and just know will devour those also. Highly recommend this author and her great books.
Elizabeth is pregnant and Simon is annoyingly concerned. What's new....but I still love these fun books about time travel. This time 3 sets of time travelers (all our fav characters) go to three points during the American Revolution to make sure an evil council does not change history. Quick 200 pg book great fun to read as always.
Enjoyed every book plan to start Jack's story next. Saw a review that this author did not put out books quickly enough. Take your time the research alone must take a lot of time they are worth the wait!
This may well have been the best of the 10 books in the series I have read so far. It's been a couple years since I finished book #9, so it took a bit of this one to catch up my memory banks. This was a nicely woven historical fiction that moves this series along nicely. Well done!
I found this book tedious. Maybe it's because the American Revolution is not of great interest to me, but I also found there wasn't much of a plot and very little action, which made the books in this series entertaining if nothing else. Also, I think my opinion of this book was affected by the various annoyances and problems that have accumulated over the past 9 volumes. For one, despite this being a series predicated on time travel, the issue of time paradoxes is more or less ignored. Every time the topic comes up, it gives Elizabeth a "headache" at which point she just chooses not to worry her pretty little head about it. The mechanism of time travel is not explained and there is no attempt to do so even in the most basic sense. It just happens. There are several plot lines that run through the series that just end up abandoned with no explanation. Like what happened to that list from Simon's grandfather with people they had to save? That was just forgotten. The pretext for time travel became more and more convoluted and "thin." Finally, Simon and Elizabeth's relationship finally got too irritating. He is possessive and she is infantilized, which is only accentuated by constant statements along the lines of "... but it's not like he tells me what I can and can't do." This is a dynamic VERY reminiscent of Twilight. It would have been nice to see their relationship grow into an actual partnership. I think I am ready to be done with Simon and Elizabeth.
I’ve enjoyed reading the Out of Time series. The books are fun and the characters are interesting and also fun. Besides, who doesn’t want a love story like Simon and Elizabeth’s? This particular book was so much more interesting than the previous books, though. The three intertwined stories made the story more complex and added more tension because each of the three had to be successfully completed by a certain deadline in order for the time to be corrected. With these books you’re pretty sure there’s going to be a happy ending, the question is always how. Here, in one book, you have three “how’s”.
Really struggled to get into this book, I've loved the series so far but almost gave up on this one. The beginning of the book was very pregnancy heavy, and it's not like we didn't know we found out last book that Elizabeth was pregnant and the book before we met their child so it wasn't really necessary to be telling the reader constantly that she was pregnant. I feel like so much time was spent dealing with this that the end of the book with the actual mission was a bit too rushed but still managed to enjoy the story
I enjoyed the multiple story-line and I thought that the time periods chosen were interesting. I think that this book should have been about 100 pages longer, though. There isn't enough space in 200 pages to really bring three separate stories to life. I would love to see more like this where we learn more about the other characters and see them outside of Simon and Elizabeth, but with more depth.
I'm just a huge fan of this series so it didn't take me long to get through this chapter. As usual I don't try to think on the scientific side of time travel I just enjoy the characters and let myself be swept along in the adventure.
One of the better in the series. I liked how everyone is involved in saving The Timeline. Some tense spots, but the team prevail. Now I want to read more Revolutionary War stuff.
Every time Ms. Martin releases another book for the "Out of Time" series, anything I am currently reading gets set aside for her.
This one is another hit for me. This book actually dealt with three different places all at the same time...and all in the Revolutionary War time. Ms. Martin did a fantastic job on writing for three different places and times. She also brought back Victor (who has actually become one of my favorite characters in this series), who along with Jack, Teddy & Travers (from The Council). Between theses guys, Simon & Charlotte, they meet many historical figures including Benjamin Franklin.
Honestly, this book is my all time favorite of the series. I loved the twists and turns and going back and forth between the years and the people who went back in time.
I feel like this book was an extension of the last. I loved the history in the telling of the story and the dynamics of the teams(you'll have to find out for yourself). But how to say without giving away too much...the absolute adoration and value that Elizabeth represents for Simon, is so well written in this book. I really did cry. But even better....I can't wait until we get to see what Monique does with another little character in this book later on. You'll just have to read the book to see who I mean.
