SOMETIMES NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS.
Gavin McLean is an astute, accomplished and dedicated homicide detective. His days are filled with solving brutal murder cases, delving into the psyches of the worst humanity has to offer. His work comes first, to the detriment of his personal life.

His sleeping hours are plagued by a reoccurring dream of a beautiful naked woman with long brown hair. He's mesmerized by her shapely backside, which is all he can see in the vision. The dream is erratic, with no patterns to help discern frequency or cause ... with one complicated exception. She is always suspended by her hands, from a meat hook, on the ceiling, and pleads for her life.
With his personal life in turmoil and dreams shortening his sleep, he struggles to keep his world in operating order. He distracts himself by having an encounter with a frequent lover. Then fate steps in when a woman is found naked and dead, in a dumpster.
Is Gavin's dream becoming his reality. Sometimes nothing is as it seems.

How about start reading a book in which the main character is a sexy as hell detective? Of course I'm the first in line. Only the mysterious and suspenseful beginning and both made me want to read without stopping.
"Why we do not die in Dreams" is a book from Debbie Zello that suspense lovers should read. Crime, suspense and the unknown are in great prominence in this book.
Debbie Zello has a complex writing, which due to the theme of this book fits completely. This is not an easy subject to write, is something that nobody wants to happen, but unfortunately may be just around the corner.
The whole book is very well written; the scenes are very well described and that makes us experience the scenes so much better.
In the midst of so much tragedy can be place for love? Will there be place for comedy? I found myself laughing at some scenes and terror in others. And let’s not forget the hot scenes, of course.
Gavin McLean is a homicide detective who loves his profession. He is involved in the murder of a young woman. He is haunted by a recurring nightmare that by mystery becomes reality. A lot happens and one thing I assure you, nothing is what it seems.
When this book was over I wondered to myself what the hell had happened, would I had read well? There have to be some missing pages?
I am extremely looking forward to the next book because I did not want that this story to ended like that. I wonder what will happen next, because being in this ignorance is a huge torture.
Debbie Zello you undoubtedly are the master of the art of suspense because you managed to leave me dumbfounded with what happened.

A dead woman Eden James (19, Soph.; Boston College; CJ) was found in a dumpster (1165 Marlboro St.).
Detective Gavin McLean (29, Boston PD, lead investigator, Boston College; CJ), Detective Lucinda “Lou” Barnes (partner, BPD), & the ME were at the crime scene.
Dr. Frank Butler did the autopsy.
Detective McLean & Detective Barnes went to visit with Mr. & Mrs. Marks in Newton (burb).
The 2 of them talked to Mathew (Eden’s brother) instead.

Another female body was found in a dumpster at Charles River Plaza.
It was Sandra Mills (bar patron) whom Gavin had met at the Royale hip-hop club.
Now Detective McLean had to tell Mr. Mills & Mrs. Mills the same horrible news.
Cambridge. Kevin (Salina’s husband, Gavin’s BMF, attorney, Boston College; law) &
Salina (Kevin’s wife, PhD; associate professor Medieval History, Harvard) had invited Gavin over for supper.

Salina had hooked up with Marissa Martin (divorced, mother, legal secretary).
They had gone out on 3 dates.
Then Gavin got a call from Jeff Martin (Marissa’s ex-husband), saying she was not home so he could return their daughter Sonya Martin (4, aka Princess).
More bad news. Julie “Jule” Stewart had been murdered.
Marissa had been found & taken to the hospital, she had been through quite an ordeal.
Detective Montgomery & Gavin were going to visit Dawn Stewart (mom), Tim Stewart (dad) & Risie Stewart (daughter/sister) in Playa Del Rey, CA.

Gavin went to the funeral & then headed back to Boston.
Would the murders of Samantha Moser, & Mary Suffield get solved?
& what about Gavin & Lou?

Warning: This book is for adults only & contains extreme violent or graphic adult content or profanity &/or sexually explicit scenarios. It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written BDSM Psychological Thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great BDSM Psychological Thriller movie, or better yet a paid-per-view mini TV series. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

When Debbie Zello asked me to read and review this book, I instantly looked at this title, and thought to myself, now this book is going to be different.

The cover has this sexy hunk on it, which instantly makes you want to open it up right there. When there is a sexy hunk on the cover, who isn’t going to check out your book? I opened the inside, and then noticed it has forty one chapters. Well, let’s pull up a chair, I know for a fact that Debbie Zello can please my reading cravings, so here I go.

Gavin McLean is a delicious looking homicide detective, and he has siblings and all of their names start with G.

Gavin decided to become a detective, unlike most of his siblings, many of them had went into law. Gavin decided to be the odd one out, however it was everything he wanted and more. Something that kept him busy, and he enjoyed it.

You see, Gavin is one of those Detectives that who puts his work first, like many of the homicide detectives that are truly into their work. With this, comes little time for a social life, let alone sleep.

When Gavin does sleep, his schedule is sporadic, and he has dreams. And his dreams are always repetitive. These dreams start off all sweet and innocent.

There is this beautiful woman, a woman that any man would swoon over. Most would think, you know what, this is going to be good, were going to visualize a dream of them getting it on. Nope.

You know you want to see this masculine body get all sweaty and naked, and have a romp in the hay. But it’s not going to happen. The dream turns into a nightmare, every time. You see the ceiling, it gets cold inside. And then you see meat hooks, and then you see this beautiful brunette hanging from them. She is begging for her life, pleading. What just happened? How did this happen and what is going on? Gavin doesn’t understand. And he just keeps having these dreams, and doesn’t understand the meaning behind them, or even if there is one.

Gavin decides he needs to get a personal life, to break this monotony, and get his mind away from the dreams. He seeks out his lover, so he can have a little playtime fun himself and the distraction. A little roll in the hay might just cure his problems, he hopes.Yes, it helps him feel a little better, and he enjoys the mad passionate sex, but still, there is something just not right.

Eventually a new homicide case comes into view, a naked woman is found in the dumpster dead. Gavin looks at her. His eyes just stare at the woman, he cannot believe what he is seeing.

The story holds a little secret within its chapters, which will blow your mind away. Maybe there is more to it then you can imagine. Yes, in fact there is. Maybe things aren’t as they seem after all. Gavin has more of a story to tell here, then you could ever imagine. There are more details I won’t reveal here, because I don’t want to blow the entire secret. But you will need and want to read this book cover to cover, and again and again. Gavin, and his dreams will keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what it is that you might have missed.

“Why We Don’t Die In Dreams” by Debbie Zello is a five star read that will entertain you from page to page. I guarantee you, you will not be able to put it down, until you figure out the mystery behind the dreams and Gavin McLean.

I thought this was going to be a basic Thriller the same as others and that was where I was wrong. The story as a mix up of romance and the twists and turns that were not what I expected. The author hooks you in thinking that you know exactly where the book is leading and then you get a twist that you just didn’t see coming – can’t wait to read more by Debbie Zello
This starts off with Gavin waking up from a dream, the same dream he has been having and trying to make sense of but everything he tries isn't working.
Gavin didn't want to be a lawyer like his parents and work at their law firm. He decided to work for the homicide division of the Boston police department His boss wants some answers from an unsolved case that has been open a while and they seem to be getting evaded at every turn. As a result of Gavin being a workaholic his personal life is suffering, he gets along well with his partner Lou and thinks she has curves in all the right places.
Gavin gets an early call as there has been another body found and organises to pick Lou up on his way explaining she may not cope with seeing her first dead body and he was right. Gavin's dreams continue each one a variance from the last but never giving him enough to go on.
After a few rough cases he's friends with benefits, Jules gives him a call and it's just what he needs with everything going on. Gavin and Lou continue following up on clues and suspects to try to find the killer all the while their friendly flirting continues. Jules his long term lover rings and makes Gavin an offer that he can't accept even though their best friends and love each other and Gavin makes a counter offer.
Everyone is pushing Gavin to have a relationship, his mother is begging for grandchildren and his best friend’s wife plays match maker with her neighbour Marisa, but Gavin can’t focus on that while he is still having the dreams. Gavin continues to have the dreams which are giving no answers although do have some slight variations, and he still in no closer to closing the case. Finally, Gavin makes a connection to the cases but it wasn't one I was expecting. Gavin continues having the dreams and his partner Lou helping him to try to solve the case starts to get to Gavin. The dreams continue with Gavin seeing them as real he begins to have trouble seeing what is real and what is not.

Prepare to be taken on the ride of your life, this is not going to be what you think it will and if you could think up something this complicated you would surprise the crap out of yourself. Dreams are some pretty unexplained instances that can leave you happy, horny, sweaty or scared. Most people don't remember their dreams when they wake up and sometimes that is a blessing. When your dreams start to intrude on your reality that is when things get really FUBAR. Gavin is having the same dream over and over. As he struggles to make sense of what is happening his dreams take on a more complex content and he fears he is losing his mind. I really have to say that the author did a bang up job of keeping you glued to your seat. With each turn of the page you never knew what you were going to get and she threw plenty of twists and turns to boggle your mind. Every time I thought I had it figured out another twist showed up and my theory went to Hell. The storyline is very complex and I don't know how Ms. Zello kept it straight. The characters were complex, the storyline was out of this world and I am now afraid to go to sleep and dream. If you are looking for an easy puzzle this is not the book for you. Your brain will be challenged and pushed to its limits as follow the path of this amazing author.

Gavin McLean is a good looking homicide detective, who like many of the homicide detectives, puts his all into his work leaving little time sleep let alone time for much of a personal life. Because of his job, when Gavin can find time to sleep, he has started to dream. That dream is always the same: it’s a cold room, with meat hooks hang from the ceiling. Then he sees a brunette hanging from one of them with her back towards his line of view and she is pleading with him to save her. He can’t see her face no matter how much he tried to keep dreaming. He wakes in a cold sweat wondering why he keeps having his repeating dream so he decides he needs a little personal time. But even having a passionate nights with his love doesn’t help to distract him. The dreams continue and when he catches a case with a dead naked woman in a dumpster he starts to question his dreams even more.

The story has some amazing twist and turns and the suspense will keep you on your toes and wondering what’s fixing to happen next. This is the first book I have read of Debbie Zello’s and I know it won’t be my last. 2 Thumbs Up and I highly recommend you give “Why we don’t die in Dreams” a try!

Deborra Zello is an amazing writer and she makes you live the story through her words.

In this book you will find the story of Gavin McLean and Lucinda Barnes aka Lou.

You find yourself in a twisted story that takes you in different cities like Boston and California. You do find yourself following those characters in different jobs and you are wondering what will happen to them.

From chapters to chapters you never know what Deborra is throwing at you and you want to read more and more to find out what Gavin and Lou are up to. You will get confused at times and then on the edge of a cliff, wondering if you will fall or not.

I can tell you that you will get enough thrills and puzzle pieces to fill your imagination till the end and even there you’re not expecting or foreseeing it at all.

Breath taking read

"Why am I dreaming..."
This is the first opportunity I've had to read a Debbie Zello piece. Why We Don't Die In Dreams is quite intriguing. Gavin McLean seems to take on many different roles while in his state of dream. Each dream revolves around the same situation, but not Gavin. These dreams have him virtually living three separate lives. As the dreams progress he seems to carry over traits of his other professions. Just when I thought I was one step a head of the author (thinking I knew exactly where the story was going)...BAM another twist! I have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers; this one really has my attention and desire for more! I'm dying to know...who is the real Gavin McLean?! Highly recommended creative, sassy, and suspenseful read!!

This is my second reading of this book. I was so mesmerized the first time, I wanted to make sure I got all of the details. I'm glad I did because I caught things I would've missed the first go round.
This book was amazing and the author's mind is pure genius. The story kept me on the edge of my chair and just when I thought I was comfortable, the author would twist the story in a different direction. It was filled with suspense, murder, intrigue, a bit of the supernatural, and hot sex.
I couldn't put this book down. The first time I read it in two days, the second time I took my time to savor the details.
It's an excellent read and an excellent author.

WOW!!! This story was crazy and twisted but in a good way! There were the same main characters in three different stories all dreaming about one another. After the crazy dreams about trying to figure out who the murderer is they would wake up with marks on their body that actually happened to one of the other sets of main characters. I am still not sure what is reality or what is a dream until I got to the end. I can't wait for the next book to find out what happens next. Debbie did an amazing job switching from one storyline to the next yet making it all circle together in the end.

I am not sure how to review this book. It was phenomenal. Just as I thought I was getting a good grip on the story, everything changes and then changes again. I loved it.
The main character had me laughing out loud; sometimes in public places which was little embarrassing as I simply could not stop. I felt his pain, shared his love, and met his anger. It was an emotional roller coaster the likes I have not experienced in quite sometime when reading a book.
I CAN NOT WAIT to read the next book, but please Ms. Zello, don't go past two. I am positive I can't take it.

This book... left me sleepless. I literally couldn't lay it out of my hands until I was finished. It's a wonderfully compelling book, especially in the first third of the book telling the story with the right amount of wit. It's mind-blowing, shocking over and over again, wanting you to find out the end until the end isn't what you expected... Definitely a "good read". No, a great read, really. Loved it, just as every other book I've read by Debbie Zello. Deserved 5* from me.

WARNING SPOILER
Gavin McLean is a homicide detective in Boston. He is good at his job but is plagued by sleep depriving nightmares of women being tortured on meat hooks. One day, his team discover the body of a dead woman in a dumpster who has been raped and tortured beforehand. Fearing his dreams may be coming true, he investigates the case with a new partner. They discover some information until Gavin has another dream and another girl is found dead the exact same way. He continues investigating with Lou, eve trailing the university campus and a tube line to find this serial killer. things intensify when it gets personal as the killings follow Gavin's life. Alongside this, a girl Gavin is seeing is taken by this serial killer. He finds her and saves her before she can be raped, but does not want to see him again. Aswell as this, a lover of his is murdered in LA just after he asked her to marry him. He flies over and attends the funeral, but still cannot find the killer. Returning to Boston, he investigates it further. Lou comforts him and even goes for some drinks with him and they have sex. Will Gavin be able to stop thi killer before he attacks again?
A well written novel. A good plot. well developed characters with strong traits over vulnerabilities, particularly in the cases of Lou and Gavin. Although i did think that Gavin could be toned down in some places as he is too forceful at points. Lou did help in balance him out, even if he did seem to talk to the audience too much. I also enjoyed the characters of Salina and Kevin who were good friends and added humour. The recurring dreams were brilliantly done with creepy décor and victims. I also loved the fact that the numbers of dead women increased each time which was a lovely touch and added extra foreshadowing. I also adored the scenes of Jules' cremation which were emotive and perfectly written in Gavin's speech at the service in particular. her death itself was sudden and saddening at the same time, perhaps because her character was written as someone who was so alive.
However, as a creative writing student at university myself, I do feel that the reveal that all the detective story was a dream in chapter twenty two was a bad choice for the middle of a novel. Perhaps this would have been more effective to end it there and make the rest either another novel or a prequel/sequel of some sort. As it was it felt as if an entire other novel about a married attorney had been stuck and pasted here. to take over a brilliantly written detective story with a fast pace. Instead it just faded out into this married life and court cases. Overall, a good novel and I would give it four stars.

Why we don't die in Dreams
By: Debbie Zello
5 out of 5 stars

The story Why we don't die in Dreams by Debbie Zello is a thrilling/erotica/paranormal book. This is an amazing story that I loved reading. It takes you on a journey that has plenty of mystery and there are times I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I love the character of Gavin McLean. He is a wonderful character that you can get behind and you want him to succeed in finding all the answers to the questions that have been placed before him. Gavin is a man that is having a dream, a nightmare really. He is baffled as to why he has this dream and what it means. His concern is that in this dream is a woman who is in trouble and asking him for help. Will Gavin find the reason that he is having this dream? There comes a time when the dream starts to change. What are the reasons for this change? Is the woman real and if so will Gavin be able to save her? As the story progresses Gavin also finds more and more puzzling things happening in his life that he can’t find a reasonable explanation for. What is happening to Gavin? Reading this story sparked my imagination as each clue that you are given only leads you to more questions. This is a story that kept me guessing what would happen next and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. This book also has some very steamy love scenes that will have you turning on a fan and reaching for a glass of ice water. There are other supporting characters in the book who love, socialize and work with Gavin and I enjoyed reading about them. This is an author who truly is an amazing writer and creates amazing characters. I have read several of her books and I have never been disappointed in any of them. This book does end with a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read what happens next. This story does have mature subject matter which includes descriptions of an alternative lifestyle, steamy love scenes, and also descriptions of crime scenes. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.

Why We Don't Die In Dreams by Debbie Zello is a thriller, mystery, erotic romance story. This is not my first story with this author, the one thing I enjoy about her books is the twists and turns that she creates. They will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. Her writing style is enjoyable and engaging. Her characters are connectable, lovable, and true to life. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions from laughter to anger. They will pull you into their world with little effort and make you feel like you are right there with them. This is the story of Detective Gavin McLean. He puts everything he has into his job which leaves little time for sleep. Because of this he starts having a dream that can't be explained and it is the same dream every time. When he catches a case with a dead naked woman in the dumpster, he questions his dreams even more. This investigation is messing with his head and you will find that it just may be messing with yours too. What does one have to do with the other? Is there danger that is lurking where no female is safe? There is no doubt, this author will use these characters to pull you into a world of suspense, mystery that you will never see what is lurking in the shadows. The secondary characters are both good and evil but the story wouldn't be the same without them. They are all strong characters that have their own personality and strengths. I enjoy Gavin's character. He is sassy and knows what he wants and how to get it. He is not afraid to bend the rules to get the answers he is in search of. Just when I thought I knew where this story was going bam, another twist and another direction. I highly recommend this story as I know you will want to see what Gavin gets himself into and if his dreams come true. I can't wait the next installment in this story, I know it will have just as much suspense and twists.

I have to admit that it took me a couple of hours after reading Why We Don’t Die in Dreams by Debbie Zello to have the ability to take a deep breath and actually absorb what I had just read. I mean I have read psychological thrillers in the past, and yet I can’t remember any one of them that gave me this feeling of intensity that I got while reading this. In good conscience I have to mention at this point that this book has a cliff hanger, but if you are like me you won’t mind it too much since the next book is coming out soon (I checked once I could finally get my brain functioning).
This is the story of Gavin McLean, a Boston Homicide Detective, who is trying to catch a killer that is killing young Boston women and leaving their bodies in dumpsters around town. With the help of his partner, rookie detective Lucinda Barnes, Gavin processes each scene looking for clues to the monster. If this isn’t enough Gavin is also having reoccurring nightmares featuring a woman that has been beaten hanging from a hook in an abandoned building, a woman who keeps asking Gavin to find her and not let her get killed.
This book!!! It’s been a bit since I finished and I am still reeling, I loved this book, what a terrific premise, what characters, what a way with words and scene building, I just can’t say enough about this story. I was enjoying it immensely, then I got around the half way point and thought wait! What!! Oh heck no! So I continued on thinking what an interesting twist and like nothing I’ve come across before. Then the author throws out another twist! Then another! And on it goes until you don’t know which end is up. Then of course there is the ending. I just lifted my head from my kindle and shouted WTF! My heart raced for hours and my mind kept going back to that final sentence, now I have the book hangover of the century. Way to go Ms. Zello! Bring on book two!

Why we don't die in Dreams by Deddie Zello was truly something out of this world. What and mind-bender. I'm still reeling and I need to read the next book asap.

This book is what makes me love mystery-thrillers so much. They are heard to figure out, twist on twist inside of twist. And oh boy did this book have twists! At one point I back peddles just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I love books with detectives, especially when they're homicide detectives. I don't know why, but I've always been drawn to thee types of books. They are my next favourite to YA. (Talk about an extreme) Debbie Zello killed it with this book, it was straight out of a movie, no better. I had flash backs to Seven, and Zodiac. The writing has this heavy feel, keeping you slightly flustered and on edge. You were justas involved with this thriller as Gavin McLean.

On top of the on going mystery, there were plenty of sexy scene's to get that blood flowing, and it was a nice brake for the heaver themes. It was a good balance. Speaking of, this whole book was balanced out near perfectly. No plot holes, to filler and I can't tell you enough about the twist and turns!

Oh an the ending! I can't even right now.. I need to get my hands on the next book. My mind is trying to piece it all together. I'm going to have to read this again, to see what I've miss, little clues and things that might have seem insignificant at the time.

If you haven't guessed, I highly recommend this book. It's a dark thriller, that will having you second guessing everything until then end. These are the best kind, because I'm skill tying to figured it all out.

Happy Reading

Why We Don’t Die in Dreams is a superb read by the very talented Debbie Zello. This story is a detective murder mystery- with drama, suspense, thrills, and mystery. It’s a bit of a psychological MIND-BLOWING story with paranormal elements, police investigational procedures, a serial killer, romance, and erotic situations. Nothing I can say here (without giving away spoilers -which I won’t do) will be able to do the story justice, or convey the clever, multi-layered and complex storyline- which held some epic twists that Ms. Zello deftly buried, much like hidden landmines, for us to stumble over, and have detonate in our face.
I started this book after really liking what I read on the blurb. Once I started reading I soon realised that this book is a little different from the other books of Ms. Zello’s that I had read- I went from being intrigued, to totally fascinated, then quite astounded by what I was reading. There was NO way I was going to be able to put the book down till I could figure out what was going on- well that didn’t happen, as Ms. Zello kept me on tender-hooks, guessing the whole way through the story. So, I ended up reading the book in one sitting, reaching the end of this mind-bending story in complete shock and awe at what I had read. I may have cursed Ms. Zello a little (OK, a lot), for twisting my mind so completely and leaving me hanging at the end….. do you know how badly I NEED the next book now, just so I can try and piece this story together. One word sums it all up beautifully- WOW!
Her best book yet!

Thank-you, Ms. Zello!

If you like Law & Order then your going to love this book! Right from the start you can tell the author has done her work. She researched, made notes planned out this book and did awesome. It was detailed enough and kept me engrossed just like the tv show would do. I had the book like a film running through my mind.

It was a rollercoster of twists and turns that didn’t stop until the end and even that ended on a twist!Being my first book by this author, I felt she was able to draw me in as a new reader. Not only was the blurb intriguing but the story as a whole was beautifully done, and the type of on the edge of your seat read that you would expect when the character is in law enforcement. Gavin will have you addicted to the story. I will say that he was amazing. He had to determination, but deep down he was really a sweetheart.

My main complaint was I wish there was better scene changes. They were abrupt with no type of break. One sentence they were at the desk the next he was walking in to somewhere else. Sometimes I had to reread to make sure I didn’t miss something. Maybe that was for a reason, I’m not sure but I felt it confused me a few times too many.

Overall I was engrossed with this story. The flow was great, the fact that there wasn’t a lot of unnecessary descriptions and filler was a huge plus, I can’t wait to know what’s going to come!!! 4 Stars #2OCCJD

What a great thriller!!! Why We Don’t Die in Dreams by Debbie Zello is an AMAZING ride. She has created a complex plot with complex characters. This one will keep you guessing. Even at the end.
I really love a thriller/mystery and Why We Don’t Die in Dreams is still keeping me guessing. This is book one of at least two. This book is one of the best I’ve read in quite a while. Ms. Zello really hangs you out there. i’m not sure what to say that won’t give away too much, but, I will say that I love the way this book is constructed!! I love that all the protagonists get to tell their story in their own voice. I did find it a little confusing and very different from time to time and if I could make one recommendation, it would be to clarify the voices better. This would help keep the characters straight. The copy I read didn’t differentiate between them well. It took a couple of minutes to sort out who was telling the tale. But, all in all, Why We Don’t Die in Dreams is a great read. It’s sure to keep you guessing. It has a cliffhanging ending with a promise of more thrills in the next book.
I really look forward to the next book and would highly recommend Why We Don’t Die in Dreams toanyone looking for a great read. Debbie Zello has done a bang up job !!!

Why we don't die in Dreams by Debbie Zello is the first in a new series by her. Let me tell you it is one mind bending, edge of your seat, thrill ride that will keep you guessing until the very last moment. This is the story of Gavin McLean, a homicide detective that gives everything to his job. Working long hours doesn’t leave much time for a social life, let alone time to sleep. However, he does have to sleep at some point and when he does he has the same recurring nightmare over and over again. Unsure what this horrifying dream could mean Gavin tries to go on with his life as normally as possible. That is until he and he partner catch a case that is eerily similar to his dream. From there you are thrust into a chaotic world, where it becomes hard to tell which is a dream, and which is actually reality.
This book definitely deserves a five star rating. The characters simply leap off the page and come to life before your eyes. The plot was original and compelling with a good pace set from the very first chapter. With more twists and turns than your average rollercoaster you will just have to sit down, buckle in, and hold on for this wild and crazy ride. This book is everything good about a mind blowing twisted book, it will leave you with a book hangover for days. I’m excited to see where this author takes her readers next.

I am in love with this book, and also infuriated by it. Why We Don’t Die in Dreams is brilliantly written and engaging…and also ends with a huge cliffhanger! You know it is a good book when you want to throw your Kindle across the room because the book ended too soon.

I don’t even know if I can write a review that properly describes this book and also won’t ruin the plot twists, but I’m going to try. Honestly, the book will be so much better the less you know about it up front. I’d pay to see this made into a movie, but only if they followed the book as much as possible. It’s just that good.

What do a detective, a judge, and a Dom have in common? Dreams about women being murdered, and then having their bodies turn up in real life. How are they all connected? This story weaves the connection and takes you on a ride through nightmares.

This book is very adult related in many ways and so I would not recommend it to anyone under 18 years of age. You should also know that this book may contain triggers for some people as it does describe the murder scenes and the dreams in detail.

That all being said, I look forward to the next book! I simply must find out how it all turns out!

Gavin McLeod is 29 years old and a 6 year veteran of the Boston Police Department. He has begun to have dreams about beautiful women who end up dead and they all seem to have a link to him in some way. Gavin and his new partner, Lou Barnes, work to discover the victims and how they are all related.

Yet soon enough the reader needs to figure out what is real and what is actually Gavin's dreams as the two worlds collide in an unprecedented way.

Wow - the beginning of this book is so full of mystery and murder with Gavin trying to figuring out who is murdering these women and how they are linked to him. I felt so bad for Gavin as it was obvious how much he was struggling with everything.

Then all of a sudden the book takes a huge turn and I was like - WTF is going on and I actually had to go back and re-read to make sure I hadn't missed something. From then on I had to pay attention as there was so much happening and I wasn't sure which reality we were in.

The book had so many twists and turns that you get so involved in the book but are never really sure what is happening and the author really did a great job of keeping you involved in the book and the story.

I am really looking forward to the next book to discover what is really happening!

Why We Don’t Die In Dreams is an exciting thriller by Debbie Zello, focusing around a detective who’s dreams seem to be giving him clues about a serial killer. It is the first in a series, leaving some mysteries to be answered in the next book.
This book is an erotic thriller, and the protagonist Gavin definitely spends a lot of time fantasising about (and, occasionally, sleeping with) women. Personally I didn’t feel like I needed a description of every female characters’ boobs but I do get that, in a story told from Gavin’s perspective, that was a detail he would consistently pick up on. With the killer’s approaches seemingly S&M-adjacent, Gavin and his partner Lou investigate the local S&M scene which is approached sensitively and positively.
My favourite characters include Jules, Gavin’s long-term friend-with-benefits who outlines the unfair differences in expectations of men and women in her kind of work, and Josie, the “twenty-year-old stuck in a sixty-year-old’s body” who runs the bar Gavin frequents.
For me, this is a four-star book. I’d recommend it to people who enjoy getting their teeth into a good, weird mystery and are into reading erotica. It’s a page-turner that will occupy your brain until you’ve finished it (and a good while after…)

Review:

So, full disclosure. I originally gave this book a three star rating when I first finished it. My mind was reeling with all of the twists and turns. I also felt like there were parts that were more about the spice than the actual story. Kind of like a deflection tactic if you will. The cliffhanger ending blew my mind even more than the entire story did! I'm both looking forward to and scared to reading the second novel if I'm being honest. Once you get used to the story, a twist smacks you in the face. I do have some important advice for this one. Please pay attention to all details that seem odd. No matter how small they are. A lot of those details will be explained as the story goes on. That's as close to giving spoilers that I'm going to. Besides the spice and cliffhanger warnings of course. Also, the cover makes more sense once you've read the book. I do think it could use different fonts though. Please don't read this if you're not into thrillers. It does get dark in many places.

WOW!! I was completely blown away by Why We Don’t Die in Dreams by Debbie Zello. This book has got it all – mystery, romance, suspense, and intrigue. The whole story centers around homicide detective Gavin McLean and his life outside of the norm from his siblings. Every night Gavin dreams of a beautiful woman, so beautiful that she would turn any man’s head, and yet the dream doesn’t go like he would expect. Right before he wakes up she in on her knees begging for her life! What?? That part threw me through a loop, making me wonder just what this book was all about. The twists and turns that happen in this book will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out the dreams and the whodunit behind the dead girl in the dumpster. There were many times that I found myself not able to put this one down, reading faster and faster just to figure out the next clue in the writing. Zello is a new to me author, and boy am I glad that I picked this book up. Her cover art is what initially drew me in, but her writing style is what made me stay from start to finish. I can’t wait to pick up more of her works and get to reading!

Why we do not die in Dreams
By Debbie Zello
5 stars

I thought that this story was amazing! I mean first of it has the sexiest homicide detective ever in a story!! I loved him! The storyline grabbed me straight from that very opening chapter. I loved the mystery of it and I wanted to keep on reading just to find out why Gavin was having these dreams. The suspense running throughout the story was really good. I thought that the author did an amazing job with keeping it going, her writing in this book was really very good, the pace and flow of the story was excellent. I’m not quite sure I have read a book like this before, the storyline really got into my mind and I found myself completely captivated by it. Each chapter reveals something new and you just have to keep reading to find out what is going to happen. You find yourself trying to unravel Gavin’s dreams with him – the book is actually very cleverly written!
I can’t wait for the next book from Debbie Zello!! If you are a fan of psychological thrillers with some BDSM thrown in then you will not be disappointed with this book!
