This is so much to love; my ancestral corner of Wales, early Christianity to Norman times, old stones, ancient writing and languages! I am becoming a big fan of Mark Redknap. This is a scholarly tome and very heavy. The photographs, drawings, and maps(!) are excellent. Some of the discussions of the etymology and morphology of language gets a bit deep into graduate level research, but I kind of understand it. It is written in language that is accessible to a general reader with some background in these areas. And I found myself fascinated by carving techniques, geology, Roman cultural remnants and so many facets of this study! It is a beautiful book. I've seen some of these stones. I hope to see more.
