"Devin Hunter's new book digs deeply into the roots of what makes a witch powerful. He doesn't gloss over the soul-searching work with simple spell 'bandaids.' Instead, he offers readings and exercises that empower the witch in mind, body, and soul."--Courtney Weber, author of Brigid: History, Mystery, and Magick of the Celtic Goddess

A very interesting book that answered some questions I had been having lately and gave me a good jumping off point to investigate more. I am happy to see a new book out that is for witches that have been practicing a long time and are looking to deepen their Craft. This book is well researched and written, the author knows his stuff. Looking forward to his next book.

With this book, Devin Hunter makes his mark as one of the leading voices of Witchcraft for a new generation. Giving us a peak into his unique Sacred Fires Tradition of Witchcraft, Devin provides the resources to empower ourselves through magick and rise to sovereignty within our lives. The Witch’s Book of Power is an extraordinarily stimulating and provocative book that is impossible to put down. Published by Llewellyn, this gracefully succinct compendium of magick is unlike any other published ...more

It took me awhile to get through this one. It just wasn’t clicking with me. It does have some good breathing and meditation exercises - those are the best parts of the book.

If you’re really into vibrations and frequencies, you will definitely want this book. It teaches you how to find your “home frequency” and at what level to vibrate. There is also some philosophy about the three souls that each of us has that sounds pretty dead on for Freud’s work.

If you incorporate Diana of Aradia into your

An excellent intermediate to advanced witchcraft book. Devin does an excellent job of describing the exercises and phenomena in the book in a way that's easy to understand. He describes things as related to his particular path and belief system, but you absolutely do not have to follow the Sacred Fires tradition to get anything out of this book. I'd say at least 80% of it could be applied across all traditions. The journal prompts are thoughtful and add a greater depth of thought to the exercise ...more

This book was for the most part pretty good. A lot of stuff I found useful. What I didn't find useful on a purely personal level was the encouragement to work with Diana or Aradia (I'm Jewish and pretty dedicated to working without other deities.) I really did not like that it reproduced an antisemitic and antiromany piece of a (granted, very old) poem without any comment. I also didn't like the sort of "chosenness" piece of this author's views towards who is a witch. Other than these things, I ...more

Mixed feelings! There were parts of this book that I really liked -- connecting to the three souls, and the section on star and planetary power (I'm familiar with astrology, yet hadn't seen much in the past about magical affinities). The last section on deities of the craft left me uneasy, and the allies suggestions... let's just say some of it is definitely not true for me, and some of it reads a little recklessly to me. But, it was worth reading for the other sections.

I stopped reading about Wicca and Witchcraft for many years (you know, you reach a point where you have to put down the books and just practice) and am happy to find there is a fresh wave of authors writing wonderful things. Devin Hunter is one of them, and I loved reading this because so much of it mirrors my personal path these last two decades. Many of us have gone beyond the bounds of Witchcraft to learn what we felt we needed and were not finding, and our path brought us to things like sha ...more
