I've had the first book of this series saved for MONTHS. I was always slightly interested in it, but I was a little weary to read it because I read Tears of Tess and didn't care for it much, so I didn't have high hopes for this series. I was VERY wrong.
This series makes you feel every emotion you can possibly think of. There were nights I had to force myself to put the book down because I couldn't even read the words due to blurred vision, but my mind never left the story. I would wake up in the middle of the night and my first thought would go to Jet and Nila. First thing in the morning when I woke up, I got coffee and opened up the next book.
This is not a series for the feint of heart. There's more hurt, pain, and anxiety than happiness, but it's 1000% worth it. I never thought I would find a series that could compete, in my mind, to The Dark Duet series, but this one has done just that, and perhaps even surpassed it.
Now that it's over I feel kind of lost. I may have to take a break from reading all together for a few days so that I can process everything that happened. I hope HBO picks it up as a tv series one day because it would be PERFECT for that. Then I would get to experience it all over again!
If you love very dark romances, this gets my highest recommendation.
Indebted Series books 4-6 by Pepper Winters is an absolutely frantically frustrating read which keeps you completely gripped from the beginning to the end. I spent 4 1/2 books ripping my hair out and bitting evey nail then spent the other book and a half trying to calm the heart rate also I never expected to have a little sob either. It gets darker and more twisted as the series goes on, to think after the horrendous bloody revenge kill at the end for it to be finally over with a happy ending is still one of the most shocking moment but gladly accepted. I would definitely recommend this series but please be warned it can be disturbing, dark and a little scary at times too 📖 Pepper Winters is a great author but I'm having a break for to calm the nerves.
This series was nothing short of remarkable. It was original! I’ve never read a book or series like it and it will go down as one of my top series ever! It’s so well written! Pepper Winters has this special way of writing that just hooks you right from the beginning and immerses you into this chaotic, traumatic, heartbreaking, twisted, EPIC story. She chews you up and spits you out and your left with a half beating heart. Pepper is my Dark Queen! I will always 1-click her books because they are guaranteed to be absolutely amazing!
I’m a little late this party, so I read the whole series back to back. I think I went through every single emotion possible whilst read Indebted. It is one hell of a rollercoaster, full of angst!
I was undecided at times as to whether parts of the story were a little long winded, but then I thought ... no it’s not! Because every word is relevant and meaningful, it just makes the reading experience the best. This series grips, and drags you in from the off, and doesn’t let you go until the very end. This is a twisted story, with some rather twisted characters. The main leads are complexed themselves in their own way, especially Jethro ... wow that guy is smouldering! There’s a hot chemistry between them that simmers and simmers until boiling point.
This is such an deep, gritty and dark, complex story that is excellently written by Pepper Winters. Most definitely worth reading! Brilliant!
At first, I was overwhelmed with how many books are in the series but don't let it deter you. I read the entire series without stopping in a week because I had to know how it would end. I have never been this tense and literally going crazy over a series. It was that good and most likely will be my favorite of all time. If you've read any of Pepper's books you know how incredible her stories are and this one was mind blowing. Now if we could only have this series made into a movie it would be EPIC! I don't want to go into any details and spoil the story. I know you will fall completely in love with Jethro and Nila is one badass heroine. She went through hell and back when most would have given up. Amazing and a must read. Loved it!
I am obviously in the minority for not falling in love with this series, but it just went on and on...I swear I didn't think it was going to end. It was all right, but I found it way too dramatic, and I ended up skimming over the sex scenes - especially toward the end - because they were way too long. I don't know...I liked it, but this series is not my favorite of Pepper Winters.
So at the end of Indebted 3 I had a little bit of hope for Jet & Nila, I had hope that their love and plans could come true and they could fight the Debt Inheritance and win!
Indebted 4 blew my mind and my hopeful heart out of the water! So many twists and turns happened in that one book. So many secrets came to light. Nila suffered more and more as the series went on but this book was probably the hardest to read from her POV. Jethro tried and he had so many great plans but he couldn’t make anything work. He knew his family inside out but he completely underestimated just what they would do to him and Nila. I also struggled with his ‘condition’, when it came to light i was surprised and confused.
Indebted 5 continues in the same vain, poor Nila trying hard to stay strong and to stay alive. Jethro trying to save everyone. The plot takes a drastic change in this book. Cut becomes obsessed with Nila and hurts her in heinous ways. He just wanted the Debt Inheritance fulfilled at any cost. Cut, Daniel and Bonnie are truly horrible characters there are absolutely no redeeming characteristics in them. Kes and Jaz try hard to help Nila and Jethro but Cut always seems to be one step ahead. I honestly couldn’t keep up with the rules that kept changing and to me that made the plot less credible. At the end of this book I didn’t know if I could finish the series because it became so messy.
Indebted 6 was truly harrowing on the heart and mind, I honestly gave up hope of a HEA for Nila and Jethro. Nila gave up so much of herself but her love for Jethro never waiver and for that she will forever be the strongest heroine I’ve ever read. Jethro finally proved his was truly worthy of her in my eyes and he finally succeeded at doing what was needed. My heart broke completely in this book and I was really really pissed at one particular scene.
Indebted Epilogue was bitter sweet it was filled with what the reader would want in an epilogue and helped heal the reader. But it was a little predictable and a wee bit overdone. I would’ve loved more POV from V and Jaz and even Nila’s Dad.
This series completely took over my life, I both hated and loved it. It was epic but harrowing. At times I don’t think we needed 6.5 books for this story to be told. I’m extremely happy that Nila and Jet got the ending they deserve.
The unbelievable premise ruins this for me. There are multiple big plot issues! It is a pity because I did like some of the story, like Jet's empathy issue. I also really liked the characters Jet, Kes and Jasmine, Nila and her brother a lot at times. Some scenes were believable, emotional and even upsetting. Others were hot like some scenes between Jet and Nila and Kes and Nila. But these were overshadowed by the big plot problems.
Like an archaic contract created over 300 years ago, to allow the men in the Hawks family to torture and behead all the females in another family, would not be followed by the woman and their famiies, let alone modern day courts! Also, Jet loving Nila, but willing to hurt and kill her, so he and his siblings can keep their money and life of luxury! And it doesn't matter how rich or how many friends in high places the Hawk family have, they just wouldn't get away with torturing and killing every first born daughter throughout generations.
The men in the women's family would surely do something, everything possible and especially today, just tell the press, social media and the police etc and that is exactly what Nila's brother did and walla it saves her! And lastly, Cut Hawk and his elderly mother are the ones enforcing the contract, but all 3 of Cut's adult children Jet, Kes and Jasmine don't want to hurt Nila. I gave it 2 stars because there were things I liked in these books but the multiple very big plot problems and the boring parts were just too much to ignore.
Definitely horrific tales of a sadistic and vile wealthy family who targeted another family for the injustices that their ancestors injured centuries ago. However, it often felt like the author had designs on torturing invested readers. Definitely there is far too much repetitiveness and unnecessary verbiage that decreased the quality of the series. There were too many times that the hero and heroine made that no one would’ve. The pilot thinks you are protecting getting on a plane yet you never said that “I am being kidnapped”? Jazmine throws a pity party instead of telling Jethro where Nila is when time is of the essence. Just another decision made to hold the reader hostage and extending the book. There is a long drawn out scene of regret for killing your tormentor who was in the process of raping and sodomizing you., GIRL BYE. You fear for your life, knowing your tormentor owns the village and can for you any minute BUT of course you must have sex even though you don’t want to reveal his son is alive. Time is of the essence, I must get back to save her so I can waste time arguing before doing so. If less is more why is there a book 7? It was just too much
I don't think I can find the words to describe how brilliant this series is!!!...
...it was truly phenomenal!
I have read hundreds and hundreds of books, no lie, but this series? Is one of THE BEST SERIES I HAVE EVER READ!!!
Jethro and Nilas story continues, along with the remaining debts and it is pure brilliance. Every time I think it's going to be sorted, I'm wrong! Every time I think a certain something is going to happen, I'm wrong! Every time I wonder what someone outside of the main two are thinking, I get a chapter on them. Everything, absolutely everything had me gripped.
I didn't just read this story, I felt it! And it will stay with me for years to come!
If your looking for a dark read that will not only grip you but transport you into their world, that will have you on the edge of your seat, that will have you believing it all, that will make you hot, make you cry and make you smile, then this is most definitely the books for you!!!
I tried. I really, really tried. I read the first series #1-3 and wanted to finish this. Completion, you know? I wanted the mysteries answered. Maybe I will go back at some point but the writing is so repetitive, redundant and immature. By that, I mean that it could have been written by a teenager. It is all so improbable and unlikely, but could have been a great story. Reduce the length by half, which is still a pretty big book. I could hardly hold this one. Then remove how many times Nila repeats the same things. Remove all the superfluous words, all the redundant paragraphs. A good editor could bring this to a story that is readable.
Let me start off by saying I truly loved the first three books. However, by the fourth I started to really dislike the series. By the fourth book, Jet became a absolute pansie! The whole plot in the book became way to far fetched and the story seemed to drag on and on!!! I forced myself to get through most of the last books but ended up not finishing because I didn't care what happens in the end. It was too ridiculous for me. Sometimes a series should end with a high note. More is not necessary !!!
I had not read a PW title before she became a FYM attending author. Several titles in and I've now got a good understanding of her style.
Again with the dark and not pretty. I'm like the kiss of death to characters; I like them and they end up dead.
I wasn't as hooked with the second half of this series as I was the first. It felt like it could've been wrapped up a lot faster, kind of dragged to me.
I read the first book in this series years ago and it has stuck in my mind and I had to binge read the full series. This is a dark book with a captive theme and it was amazing. Jethro Hawk appears to claim Nila Weaver as part of a 600-year-old debt between their families. I can’t put in to words how amazingly twisted this tale is, but if you are a dark fan, this series is a must read.
In book 4 - It’s time for the third debt and unlike the prior ones, this one sneaks up on us and Nila. In this book we also learn more about Kestrel who was front and center and we discover just how evil Cut can be.
In book 5 - We start off with a bang since it is discovered that the third debt wasn’t fully collected. As we get further along it becomes harder to review without spoilers so I will just say that suddenly Jet’s younger brother Daniel is in control of collecting the rest of the debts. So far this is the most shocking storyline of the series.
In book 6 – In this sixth book, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. We finally understand how the debt started and really what Jethro’s flaws were. This was an epic ending to a fantastic series and I can’t wait to see how things truly end in the Epilogue portion.
In book 6.5 - In this seventh book which is a mere 123 pages and just 10 chapters we span 8 years of Jethro and Nila’s world. This is where we really get the warm ending that we need to have our true HEA. This is a great addition to the series!
In a nutshell: 4.5/5 Stars • Hero (Jethro) • Heroine (Nila) • Plot 4/5 • Writing Style 5/5 • Steam 5/5 • Romance 4/5 • Pacing Steady • MF • Dark and Twisted • Unexpected • Plot twists • HEA #MSBB
There's so much dark history and at points you think how can they be so cruel. But the way they fight and overcome everything even themselves is truly inspiring. It reminds me of a poem I wrote over a decade ago when I went through one of the worst times of my life. Its nothing compared to what these characters went through but I'd like to share my poem with the author my poems called
From Darkness to Light
Step out of the darkness and into the light, But you wouldn't know darkness unless there was light, For if there was only darkness all you'd know is depression, degradation and despair, and if there was only light you wouldn't know how lucky you were,
In the darkness you'll despair but in the light there's always hope to reach new and old goals.
He always put me down so much call me stupid! Idiot! Fat, But he doesn't realise how much he's lost there'll be no one now to give him hugs, cook him tea, to love him as much as me.
Now I've put him in the past, And my futures bright at last for those goals he said I was to stupid to succeed. I'm not stupid and I will succeed.
And even though I'll never forget He's lost more than he'll ever know, Because he'll never fin anyone QUITE LIKE ME.
Third Debt OMG this story was so intense! No no no, it can't end this way! Just when Nila and Jethro finally admitted all their truths, evil takes the lead and seems to be winning!
Fourth Debt OMG I can't handle this emotional roller coaster that The Fourth Debt took me on! Twists and turns, ups and downs, good and evil, sick and twisted - I don't know if I'm coming or going but definitely in a good way. I so want to stab that old witch Bonnie in the eye with a dagger, she's awful and her spawn Cut is no better. Nila is barely hanging on and with the cliffy at the end of this story, I'm not sure how she's going to survive.
Final Debt Absolutely fantastic!!!!
Epilogue This has been one of the best series I have read in a long time. This series definitely had some dark themes and some of the books were darker than others so if you like a story that leans towards the dark side, a story that makes you feel uncomfortable at times, takes you on a emotional roller coaster, makes you fall in love with the villain and you don't know why, has one of the strongest female characters you've ever read, has a kick-a** storyline and in the end love prevails then this is the story for you!
I'm clueless as to how to rate this one. It started out fast and I was instantly interested. The characters were intriguing. At first, when the story started to take a very dark turn, I thought I would (should?) cease reading it. But, I guess it was too late. I was too invested at that point and I couldn't put it down. The further I read (I have read the whole series), the darker the story became and the more I knew I should have put it down the first time my instincts warned me. The tale was very, VERY dark and sometimes brutal. I was turning the pages almost faster than I could read. I sure jumped way down the Winters rabbit hole with this one. It was still a 'love story' underneath it all, but Pepper Winters, girl...you've got some serious stuff going on in your head! I think I hated what I was reading, but at the same time I was (embarrassed to admit) captivated.
Ms Winters your books are LONG! This is a journey not for the faint hearted. Very dark very unbelievable (in a weirdo pseudo-legal way that I’ve come to expect in Pepper Winters books). Suspend belief like all dark romance readers should. A lot of embellishments and some interesting empathy conditions. Also certain that my google history was highly suspect after all those torture devices came to play (side note, for a family with ritualistic killing tendencies they are awfully cavalier with their prisoner’s health, she should have died several times over). I really should have read this series first since I have gone Pennies, Goddess isles and part of Monsters in the Dark first. Love the crossovers in the universe. Have to be in the mood for long and dark but the story is always complex and free from typos :)
All I can say is this series was incredible.... Most boxed sets I can read within a week. This whole series took me almost three weeks. The sections were as long as a regular book, not novella, but a book. Also, I liked how the story was not told all at once and you are just waiting for the hero or heroine to catch up with the plot of the story. The story was throughout the book. I would read a little behind the reason for the debt but then not all if it was given. Then there was stories behind the story of the characters and why they are the way they are. I'm not one to give spoilers but its a great series to watch.
I THINK YOU SHOULD READ THIS BUT!!!! ITS SUPER, SUPER DARK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
ALSO,, SLIGHT SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW. THEY ARE KIND OF OUT OF CONTEXT THOUGH SO... holy mother of the good god in heaven. these series was borderline insane!(and i say that knowing that jethro would not be very happy with that word) this was nutso. i cried, very hard. i felt physically ill because JESUS that was some incredibly detailed HUMAN TORTURE. cut was so so so gross. daniel sucked balls. bonnie THAT FUCKIGN OLD COW. and omg, jaqueline :(((( overall, i really loved it, i read all the books in literally two days and im shaking in my boots desperate to read the epilogue.
Pepper really knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. I don't want to tell too much or I'll give away what happens. Be prepared for a dark, heart string pulling, and mind blowing story when you read this series. I absolutely loved it! I love the twist and turns she puts in this story. But oh man, she definitely did pull at my heart strings. She wraps this up very nicely and could even go on to more books or a different line of stories if she wanted. Highly recommend if you're into dark reads.
Having read the first 3 books I launched straight into this next box set. I found myself unable to stop reading, the early hours of the morning became my friend and once I had had a few hours sleep I went straight back to the story, that's how addictive I found it. These books are well written but don't be fooled they are not and easy read, I went through every emotion and spilled more than a few tears. My gut clenched and adrenaline spiked, what would happen to our heroes, would Nila survive and if so how? Great series if you enjoy your reading on the darker side.
This book was intense and stressful and emotionally draining...just like the first 3 books. I really really wanted a better ending for Kes. He deserved the happiest of endings and so much love, and even though he loved and was loved, I wanted more.
Kite and Needles are the best. Their love story trumped the family debts and enemies that plagued them for so many years, and I can't wait to start the epilogue to get the ending.
This series is very long and very detailed but it's important to the story and worth the time. Enemies to lovers is always a good read.
At first I thought it was going to be to long, but little by little I realized that she was teaching us that even when I suffering Nila and while breaking my heart for her; the strength she showed and seeing that she never gave up on her love for Jethro kept me glued to every word. Then I realized without the story and the background of how everything came to pass that the magical love they have will never have made the impact it did. Beauty sometimes comes out of the ashes of ourselves. It is like a phoenix.
Since I'm a detail oriented person, I can't believe I'm saying this, but some of these books got a little wordy for me. Otherwise, great storytelling. Pepper can definitely keep you on edge and curious about the outcome in her books but she has a great way of revealing twist that you never see coming. Great writer, great storytelling, and a great book series.
I am so glad this series is complete and in box sets because I would go crazy if I had to wait to finish reading any of Nila and Jet story. This series is dark and disturbing. If you have triggers then this might not be the book for you but if you love all things deprived then this is a must read. I binge read all 7 books in the series (2 box sets) in under a week because once you start reading will not be able to put it down or stop.
I really loved the first three books in this series but these last books really dragged on and on! The storyline became so long drawn out and unbelievable in places. It took me two days to read the first books but three weeks to complete the last ones! There just wasn’t enough to keep my interest focused. I was beginning to think the story was never going to end, so much so it became boring. Sorry to say but just worth three stars from me.
This is one favorite book ever , I just love the creative and mind that Pepper Winters has to come up with such amazing stories. She is truly a storyteller. It’s dark and twisted but in all good ways . I have this book since it come out like 5 times . One of books ever and I always learn something new it’s like ur reading it for the first . Tessa and Master Q you will always live in my heart !!! Thanks pepper
