Nope. Didn't really feel it. 1.5 stars.
I found the whole thing pretty ridiculous and way too boring. The description sounded so good but the real thing failed so bad.

A book about dark witches? It turns out that this is one of the funniest and insightful books that I've read in ages. Karfelt hits the sweet spot of humor/tragedy in masterful form. Beneath the humor, something else simmers, and it touches both loss and trauma. Fantastic book that I'm recommending to friends and family.

Sarah Archer is a witch. She comes from a long line of witches. They were bad. She doesn’t want to be.

At the back of this book, the author has written a personal message to her readers, and I think her final sentence sums it up perfectly for me. ‘Surely there’s a little bitch witch in all of us, and even when we follow the light there’s just no getting rid of her completely, is there?’

From the first page, I felt an instant connection to Sarah Elizabeth Archer as she battles against her inherited ‘bitch witch’ legacy. We’ve all been there haven’t we – wanting to do the right thing but getting a little side-tracked. Stephanie Karfelt ensures that her protagonist is as down to earth and engaging as she can be. It’s this personality that hooks the reader in and helps us empathise with the main character.

Full of humour, Bitch Witch will have you laughing one minute and then cringing at Sarah’s misfortune the next. The author does a fabulous job of creating fully rounded characters who you can relate to. Paul is an intriguing hero, and I loved the way the book didn’t follow the usual girl-meets-boy-and-falls-head-over-heels line, in fact, the romance aspect of this novel is highly amusing and a pleasant surprise.

As I read Bitch Witch, it played out in my head like a comedy sketch, and I think it would transfer incredibly well to the screen. The secondary characters were an amusing addition, and I especially liked Mindy. I would have like to see Father McCloud return at the end too.

Bitch Witch was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I reviewed this book for the BHC Authors Arc Program. I received a copy of Bitch Witch in exchange for an honest review.

S. R. Karfelt continues to surprise me. Bitch Witch is a fantastic read. Ever wonder what happens to a witch, using black magic, when she decides to stop because she doesn’t want to pay the price the darkness demands? Fast paced, hard to put down…I could use all the usual adjectives to describe a great read. However, this time Karfelt has surpassed her other books in that this book gives “hope” to the reader as well as a good story. We all have something about ourselves we wish to change and Sarah, the Bitch Witch, is a great example of a young woman who finds her life intolerable without change. She’s a witch using black magic to her own gain, yet trying to stop. Sarah calls it her addiction, this black magic, and it is her “Go To” when she is in a difficult situation. She has fears I’ll leave unnamed, but I fully believe they are worthy of fear. When she meets Paul things begin to happen and things get crazy wild. This is not a romance book, more like a life-altering book for both Sarah, Paul, Henry, and the reader if & when they allow change to happen. Karfelt has a way of making her characters reach out and grab you where you are vulnerable. That is one difficult thing for an author to pull off, but Karfelt does it. That’s why I used the word “hope” because Sarah, through her trials, learns hope and change. Sarah’s change is possible…but to tell how would be to ruin the journey for you.

Sarah Archer is trying everything in her power to be a good person and not to use witchcraft to benefit herself, which is what her mother and her aunt did all their lives. Unfortunately a late night run to Target in the middle of PMS and a rude woman honking at her in the parking lot was more than Sarah could take. When she allowed her inner bitch to come out the aftershock of the spell was way bigger than Sarah expected, and an innocent man is swept up into the mix. Bitch Witch is a tell of good vs evil, well really more like dark vs light instead of true evil. It is the story of Sarah trying to live her life but without following in the footsteps of her mother and her aunt. Author S.R. Karfelt creates a fun, easy and almost comedic at time story of life and love.

Bitch Witch is the story of a woman who doesn't want to be the same as her family before her, but has no real idea how to go about it. She works a clerk job to keep her mind occupied and keep herself from using the dark magic that courses through her veins. Author S.R. Karfelt has taken a modern story, a woman with a desire to be something different than her ancestors, but making clumsy attempts at it. When Paul is swept into the afterschock of her spell, he becomes a friend and confidenate that allows Sarah to find her way in the world. This is aqq reasonably clean book with no real sex or bad language, I defientely would recommend it to all readers. I found the idea of a woman breaking away from her past and trying to forge her own life away from what she has always saw her mother and aunt do as a refreashing plot line.

---- Received in a goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review. ---- Really wanted to like this book. Opening action started off well and I like the Sarah character. Things started to go downhill for me before she left the Target parking lot, though. I forced myself to finish this book b/c i felt obligated to do so in order to complete the review. By the time I reached the end though, I was just irritated as all get out, and hard-skimmed the last 3-4 pages. I actually made a list of what all I had a problem w/ in this book, but I can't bring myself to re-visit it so as to type it all out just now. ---- I am sorry that my experience with this book was so problematic, b/c I was so pleased when I received it. I'm sure some other people might read through this w/o complaint. I can't honestly recommend it to anyone, though. ----- Editor's need to address the punctuation issues on p. 194.

Sass- Lots of it! I adore a strong sassy witchy woman character and Sarah does not disappoint. She is all I ever want in a main character. Sarah to me is perfectly imperfect – I mean who isn’t? Sure dark matter runs through her veins and everyday is a struggle not to give into her dark side but matters is she is trying not to succumb to the incredible pull of darkness she feels. This all makes Sarah so realistic to me- We all have our demons and the fact that she is a perfect mess but still chugging on only endears her more to me.

there was so much wrong with this is don't know where to begin. sounded like a good idea, but failed to deliver. I started off liking the main character, but the initial introduction to her turned out to be the highlight.

I love how "real" the characters in this novel were. The writer is able to dig under the surface and really gets you invested in the what happens. Maybe it's the subject matter, I've always been fascinated by magic, but I thought this was an excellent read.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I just finished reading Bitch Witch by S. R. Karfelt and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Sarah Elizabeth Archer is confronted by and struggles with all the problems that plague young adults today: making the right decisions concerning a profession, making the right partner choices, defining friendship and loyalty, deciding on a moral code to follow. She's smart and beautiful, albeit in a non-traditional manner, and a feisty individual who also happens to be an introvert. Sarah is a reluctant witch who is fighting against her inherited dark side.

Her life is full of contradictions.

Sarah loves and hates her job and thrives on donuts and coffee while thinking about body shapes. She multi-tasks by re-watching "Sleepless in Seattle" on 'mute' while reading OUTLANDER for the third time, all the while thinking about incantations and how to change or reverse them as she remembers that she does not want to use incantations at all!

Can things get more complicated? Definitely. Sarah Elizabeth has actually sworn off dark magic because she did not like how her aunt and mom had both used and abused it. She was trying to go straight, which is rather like swearing off a bad cigarette habit, only not quite! She unwittingly whispers words which throw her into a romantic relationship with a Cowboy who rides a black BMW6 convertible. To complicate things just a little, throw in an equally luscious twin brother, a terribly jealous female who happens to be engaged to …. well, I do not want to add specifics. Read it yourself and find out.

In her endeavors to swear off the world of dark magic and leave it behind her, all manner of trials and tribulations team up and scheme to keep Sarah Elizabeth from 'going clean'. Some days, it does not pay to get up– wait long enough and a new difficulties are sure to pop up in a mirror or a book.

This is a delightful romantic comedy which is rife with the language of street savvy, hip young witches. S. R. Karfelt skillfully employs both humor and irony to approach the serious issues Sarah is facing in her life and the decisions she has to make. This is a book about fighting demons, real and imagined, about coming of age, about defining and finding true friendship, about striving for emotional intelligence. Bitch Witch is a book about hope.

Sarah Archer is a witch in a bad mood. She’s also in a fight for her soul. This epic battle is wrapped up in a story of friendship, sacrifice and love that is every bit as heartfelt as a Nicholas Sparks story with none of the saccharine or easy answers. You will laugh out loud and shiver as you fall under Karfelt’s spell. It’s a supernatural comedy with a serious heart wrapped in one-liners you wish to have thought of yourself. Sarah is someone you want to have some drinks with, as long as it’s not wine.

Sarah, Kathleen, Paul and his twin Henry could be any one of us and this is part of the magic. Karfelt conjures characters you laugh with and care about. With lines like, “It’s kind of ironic that the road to hell and the road to fat pants are both paved with good intentions,” you know you are hearing Sarah’s distinct voice. I must say Paul Revere Longfellow is as delicious as any chocolate lasagna.

This is a fast read, then you’ll want to read it again for lines that bitch slap you with the truth like this, “Lies had a cost too, not like casting or knocking down innocent people in the parking lot, but enough lies could slowly bind one to the dark side before they ever knew they were going.” Followed by Sarah’s signature snark, “Sarah figured she was already sitting on hell’s riverbank dangling her feet in the river Styx.”

This is a book you will share with your friends and then ask for it back so you can read it again.
I received an advanced copy in exchange for this review. I'm glad I did because I got to read this book sooner.

Bitch Witch is a fun contemporary read. Set in Massachusetts Sarah Archer comes from a long line of bad witches. But Sarah wants to change her fate and leave the dark side behind. She leads a boring life, has a regular job as a clerk and she tries to keep the dark energy at bay, but never "P*** off a witch".

Caught out with raging monthly hormones Sarah is abused by an aggressive truck driver. One step too far and she sends out a destructive spell which has a heavy aftershock. Blasting Sarah off her feet she is rescued by a delicious cowboy. Paul Revere Longfellow has age old family connections in Massachusetts and tattoos to match a famous poem.

It appears a love spell binding the two gets cast that night. One more thing for Sarah to deal with. Try as she might to ignore the dark stuff it tempts her. The battle between light and dark crescendos with an almighty spell which leaves Sarah in a coma with decisions to make.

There's plenty to keep this book fun and light-hearted as well as it being about a personal battle which many can concur with, I'm glad Paul was there for Sarah and I loved the bit part played by Father McCloud, I could just see a movie part for Morgan Freeman there.

Bitch Witch is the story of Sarah Elizabeth Archer, descendant of a long line of dark witches. Sarah is trying desperately to not use dark matter to cast her spells as it only brings out more evil in her, but she slips now and again. A Target run while she has PMS and a confrontation with another woman leads to a spell cast against the woman's truck. Problem is that spells like this rebound against the user so Sarah's jeep is pushed into a nearby BMW causing a lot of damage to the car.
The car is driven by Paul Revere Longfellow, a veteran of Afghanistan and son of an Oklahoman oilman, who is resolving some issues with PTSD by fetching the car for his father. Another little rebound love spell gets Sarah involved with Paul, though not in the way she thought the spell would work.
This story has a lot of humor and it's the type that I really like. The concept for the story was also interesting. The descriptions of Shrewsbury and Mass L&P are perfect and all of the characters are funny and engaging, even the minor ones. Sarah's friend at work might be my favorite.
Both Sarah and Paul are a great couple and also good friends. This was a good read, a little different from the usual paranormal, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sarah comes from a long line of witches who have lost their souls to the dark matter that gives them their powers. Sarah wants to change her fate but this is no simple matter for one who is quite aware of just powerful the lure of the darkness can be. She's foul mouthed and foul tempered, as one would expect a witch to be.

The problem is that witches have tempers and it can be very hard for one to hold back when someone pushes them too far. When Sarah casts one seemingly innocent spell in a fit of rage she sets off a confusing and often hilarious chain of events that alters her entire world.

Karfelt's biting humor and fast-paced storytelling made this one of the most fun books I have read in quite some time. Warning: lots of adult language and situations. I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.

3.75-4 stars cause I can't decide.

There was a lot of sass in this book and I appreciated it, because, come one guys, who doesn't like a sassy main character? She isn't perfect, in terms of her looks, her loneliness, and her Dark Matter/ witch-y problems. When she messes up, she messes up real bad, but that's okay cause it makes her real and relatable. Sarah is like your more savage, sassy co-worker. Paul is wow. He's perfect for Sarah, matching her sass with his own sarcastic remarks. But he is a little, well, really, cliche. And, Avery, eww, just eww. He's pervy and is always harassing his female co-workers. Yuck!

This is good light read (though, ironically this took way longer for me to finish then I thought it would) for anyone (well, adults) who want to read about a super sassy witch.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was actually really pleased with this book. I thought it was going to be more of a comedy (with a title like that), but it ended up being a real battle between the MC and her own family darkness--something I think most of us can relate to. I think we all have that family member or secret that we want to break away from.

Sarah is a relatable character. There's nothing canned about her, and sometimes I wanted to hit her over the head; other times I wanted to hug her.
As for Paul...well...Paul is a dreamy little something that I think everyone can love ;) The rest of the characters were pretty great (or terrible as they needed to be) as well.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who isn't too stuffy. I mean, it's right in the title.

This book gets extra points for audacity. Many of you know that I don't use the b-word, because of its history and connotations. But I also appreciate irreverence in its place, and this book delivers on that, full-on. Part love story and part allegory for our own personal battles between darkness and light, it's funny, it's dark, and it's bold. I love original writing and I enjoyed this unique story. I look forward to following more from S.R. Karfelt.

The one-liners in this book were amazing! For example:

(Guy speaking)
"Did you use my razor...it looks like someone shaved a chimp in here."

"You look like a vampire heroin addict between fixes."

This story was an interesting spin on an all too familiar topic. It had a good sense of internal conflict and moved at a good pace - though the beginning was probably my favorite.

Kudo's to the author : )

I think it is a rocky, good rollercoaster ride of change and hope. I really liked how the sins of the past came back to haunt Sarah and it gave the story a stroke of horror while adding fuel and tension to her journey. I found the magic very believable and it made Sarah's plight more personal and soul gripping.
