Just last week, I was a regular single mom and drama teacher at Peytonville Prep with a semi-normal life. The only real drama I had to deal with involved my football-coach ex and his hussy girlfriend. And maybe deciding if I should take that full-time principal/actress job at the local playhouse.

Everything changed when I discovered my boss hanging in his office. The suicid

This book really checks a LOT of my favorite (mystery) boxes. Lovely lady sleuth (check), great story (check), funny (check), hot yummy detective (double check). A new favorite for sure. This is the first Emery Harper book I read.

Celeste lives with her daughter Paige after her divorce from Colin. They both work at a prestigious school, she a theater teacher and he a coach, although the fact Colin's girlfriend Naomi works there as well is not too great. When the principal Chad is found dead - by

This first in a new series is terrific. Celeste Eagan is a theater teacher at a prep school and works with her ex-husband and his new girlfriend. It seems Celeste can't escape from the drama and when her ex asks her to approach the principal on his girlfriend's behalf, Celeste sees no easy way to deny the favor.
Unfortunately for Celeste things go from bad to worse when she finds the principal dead in his office.
Celeste can't believe Chad is dead and even worse that the hunky detective thinks she

My English review

I'm pretty sure that if someone were trying to kill me, I'd be a lot more gracious to my protector than Celeste was toward Shaw!

When teacher Celeste Eagan finds the school principal hanging in his office, it starts a ball rolling that she never expected. Now, dealing with the overzealous (and totally sexy) Detective Shaw Muldoon, trying to keep herself out of jail (again), sneaking around looking for suspects and ensuring her girls look perky whenever the good detective is around, Celeste has h

I have to admit I liked this one. It might have had a tiny bit to do with the hunky, conflicted detective who falls into Celeste's orbit. Maybe. Or it might have been the way Celeste stumbles her way into trouble without really trying. I don't know. Either way, I ended up liking this book quite a bit and want to see Shaw and Celeste snuggle up once the smoke clears.

Not literal smoke, just so you know. Well, except for that one time. But, really, who could have predicted THAT happening?

Anyway. L

I read through this book very quickly. I became engrossed in the story of Celeste, a single mom working as a theatre teacher at a private school. She arrives early one morning to discover a dead body, and becomes very tangled up in the ensuing police investigation. She ends up drawing all the wrong (and right) attention for it.
I really enjoyed reading Person of Interest. Celeste’s narration reads just like the way you’d expect her to talk. It was relatable, and flowed easily. At times she inter

Fun, quirky mystery with an unintentional PoI (Person of Interest) in Celeste, a drama teacher/single mom/all around good egg with a fun sense of adventure and a smoking/ sultry by-the-books cop who is trying to figure out who killed Celeste's Principal. Bonus: awesome best friend in Levi and acknowledgement that when you fall down a flight of stairs, you actually get hurt :-). Engaging, well paced and a fun read all round. ...more

Person of Interest is the first in the Celeste Eagan series by Harper Emery. A thoroughly enjoyable mystery with a cast of characters that you'll love. Celeste becomes the person of interest in her boss's murder. Of course, she'll need to clear her name with the he help of her best friend Levi. Add one sexy detective and you'll be quickly turning the pages. I'm looking forward to more mysteries with Celeste and the gang.

#pardonchef

The author writes well. Offbeat sarcasm. The reasons I only gave this a three is that #1 it's supposed to be a mystery, not some too hot to trot comedy. Only my opinion. #2 When the main character is supposedly a person of interest, and the ex is taken in for questioning you do not realistically have the cop, the person of interest, the ex, and his new significant other all sitting around the table together like a tea party listening to one another's versions, the two validating each other. Ok, ...more

To be honest, I guessed the culprit and (almost) the motive at two thirs of the book.
But that's not what's important here.
I'll admit it's not great litterature by far. But it's better : it's a cute, fun, nice book that will help you disconnect and have a good time. Plus the heroin is endearing, her smart kid adorable and her interactions avec Detective Sexy both fun and teasing.

Liked this book, but it could have been better. It was funny and moved fairly quickly after the first few chapters. I would have given it another star of there had been less bad language a great completely unrealistic scenes. The scene where the cop broke into her bathroom would not have happened and it made Shaw an otherwise really cool character come across as a creepy perve.

Romantic Suspense is one of my favorite sub-genres in romance and is one that can be very difficult to do well. Emery Harper has entered that select group of credible suspense writers with her début novel, Person of Interest. A murder mystery served up with a dose of humor and a realistic hero who doesn’t pace through the book rattling the alpha cage is a refreshing addition to the suspense/mystery category.

Celeste Eagan is a dra

I am not normally a mystery reader. I prefer stories that have fur or fangs. Still, occasionally I will wander out of my comfort zone if a book catches my attention. At the time Person of Interest came to my attention, there was no cover. I had to base my ‘will I/won’t I’ solely off the blurb. So let’s see, single mom who is a teacher, ex-hubs (teacher) is with a hussy (probably also a teacher), finds her boss dead (interest is perked), attractive uptight Detective (definitely interested), jail, ...more

"Can you honestly tell me you'd go into a police interview without a lawyer present?"

Person of Interest - is a cozy mystery story that has you guessing until the end. Celeste is one step away from being sucked up by quick sand. If you think your day is bad, just imagine hers. No matter how hard she tries to prove her innocence, something goes wrong and more fingers point to her. She is the talk of the town but not in a good way. People just love rumors

Person of Interest by Emery Harper was an enjoyable mystery with a great cast of characters. Celeste is smart and funny and way in over her head when she becomes a "person of interest" in the murder of her boss. Detective Shaw Muldoon is handsome and a "by the book" policeman assigned to the case. Although the sparks fly between them, there is the small matter of her being an integral part of the investigation.

The plot was smoothly paced and the characters were all likable and well developed. I

Person of Interest was such a great book. There was mystery mixed with a little bit of romance along with some great characters. Celeste is a normal women who is thrust into an abnormal situation after her boss is found dead. She somehow found her way into every step of the investigation and I loved how Ms. Harper kept me guessing whodunit until the very end!

The chemistry between Celeste and Shaw was palpable and I'm excited to see how their relationship develops in the other books. Though her b

I'm a fan of cotton candy crime novels, but this one was rougher than most. The voice more than anything kept throwing me out of the story -- it felt fake, contrived in a way that I could never push past. Too many thankyouverymuchs and 'take my word for it's with very little else to establish a character. Despite a similar love of theater, I could not find a single aspect of Celeste or her life that felt genuine, even (especially) her reactions to traumatic events.

Also, reading that much intern

Born in Alaska, relocated, reared and still residing in North Texas, Emery started writing at a very young age—pretty much before she knew what writing was.
