Quote from Deviant: “All these things and more, the foundation of my life, the faulty building blocks of my rocky structure, the assimilation and integration and deviant distractions created from the passionate mind of an overly sensitive boy.”
Wow. I finished Deviant, Book 2 of The Queer Diary Series tonight. Reading this story kept me awake for the past few nights, let me tell you.
This is the continuation of Book One called Aberrant and you will find my 5* review of this first story in the Queer series on Amazon.
My opinion hasn’t changed regarding Mr. Wickard’s five star prose (did I mention I’ve been reading his work since The Perfect Husband?), or that I simply find it horrific how a human being has to live with such suffrage, because the individual’s different?
I also think this story could apply to any gender, but Deviant is specifically written regarding the gay community and about the inner-most struggles of a NY Times best selling author Ellery William Flynn.
I remember how hurtfully the gay society was treated when the AIDS disease was discovered. I never understood how 'normal' people could downgrade a society of humans who were deemed different, solely because of their sexual preferences.
Deviant is a most thought provoking story that could possibly shove negative opinions towards those who are oblivious and ignorant - - shame on those who would piss upon their own brethren.
"Deviant" is a story which does not hold back on emotions nor sexual activities of gay men. Thus, it's a story only for adults, one which reflects the hardships of being different and often treated shamefully. In this creatively written story, Ellery "Will" Flynn is an author, having sex in his last days of life with Chance Edward Stevenson. Their time together makes Will feel at home, sharing love with Chance. Chance is younger, concerned about Will's failing health. They both share in their own words their life stories and find they have much in common. Will has kept a diary which he reveals to Chance his life's memories.
Personally, being unsure where this novel was going to take me, I soon realized that this novel provides much real information of the hurdles the LGBT people faced as they advanced forward toward acceptance within our society. It's not just about two people, but a large part of our population who have suffered discrimination no different from the blacks. This is a story well worth reading if one doesn't get swayed from the opening sexual scene. This story is masterfully written, and gives food for thought about one's life coming to an end due to old age, and how sex can define a man. This story is not long, but it does reveal real emotions and memories we all have to deal with. Read it, write a review for the author. He is quite the story teller. "Dedicated to the LGBT Community ... The fearless men and women currently fighting HIV and for all those who have died in vain... "(Quote by Douglas Wickard) Forge on, learn more about the struggles against discrimination of any form.
