I usually read books in one sitting, but it took me a while to finish A Moment Forever. Not because it was boring; no, quite the opposite! AMF was a definite page-turner, and the events that happened in the book were so gripping and heart-stopping that I had to stop a few times because I was overwhelmed with feelings. At one point, I was crying so much, my sister thought someone I knew died! So, yes, as Debbie said, you may wish to keep a box of tissues handy

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. And honestly, it is a very intense, very serious, very emotional story to be savored and read slowly. You may wish to keep a box of tissues handy while reading. I feel compelled to assure you that, despite the tearful journey, you will enjoy a satisfyingly happy ending.

This tale of lost love addresses a wide variety of topics. Some are ageless- alcoholism, disability, prejudice, dysfunctional families, abandonment, mourning, famili

A split story told in two different decades about two different couples evoked strong emotion and a long time of introspection afterward. In 1992, a woman inherits the house of a great-uncle she never knew and this sets in motion a search that will bring old, dark secrets to life and heal a family and hearts that has been torn apart for nearly fifty years. The author has a gift for her nostalgic tone and poignant feel bringing to life the past- its tragedies and triumphs.

A Moment Forever is a WW2 romance/drama that has so much heart that your heart might break before the end. There are multiple romances here besides the Ducky and Pistol storyline. Each one endearing and realistic. This is the first Cat Gardiner book I have read though once I finished this one I bought her other titles. In this genre of literature, reviewers tend to generously label almost every author as "talented" but in this case they would all be correct. It is almost an understatement when a ...more
An emotional roller coaster ride between the WWII era and modern day!!!

~~~I received an ARC of A Moment Forever by Cat Gardiner for an honest review!~~~
I have read Ms Gardiner's other books just adore the stories she weaves along with the characters she brings to us. Generally Ms Gardiner has stuck to the modern day P&P romances, though in A Moment Forever we delve into the WWII era while also following along with a modern day theme. This is not a P&P retelling.
This story covers a wide range of
Review originally posted on Diary of an Eccentric
A Moment Forever is a beautifully crafted novel by Cat Gardiner about a wartime romance that was so much more and a young woman determined to solve the mystery behind a handful of photos and letters that threaten to dig up long-buried secrets. In 1992, 24-year-old Juliana Martel inherits Primrose Cottage in Brooklyn, New York, from her great uncle Will, who simply walked out of the home in 1950 and never returned. Upon entering the home, dusty and
This book was given to me as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The story starts in 1992 and then alternates between that and 1942 thereafter. Juliana is the lead in this story. She is a likable character, emotionally damaged as a result of her mother's abandonment and all she wants is a family, having recently lost her beloved father and grandmother.
She receives a house from her great-uncle on her twenty-fourth birthday and from the moment she turns the key in the door she unlocks a past
Imagine,dear Reader,that you inherit a house lost in the mists of time,one whose interior has been left untouched from the day the former owner departed,some fifty years ago.
Pictures of an adorable looking couple, happy and evidently very much in love,adorn the mantelpiece,and the swoon worthy letters amid the treasures found in the dusty chests in the attic award you with one piece of an intriguing puzzle that tugs at your heartstrings,and inevitably leads you to question who these people are
There are other reviews which give excellent wrap-ups of the premise for this story as well as outlining the historical connection to WWII and the Holocaust. This story rates more than the 5 stars I am allowed to give it.
In this novel there is more than one romance as well as a mystery spanning over fifty years, 1942 to 1992, which has connections to several families: the Martels, the Renners and the Robertsens and then their children and grandchildren. Many emotions are at play in this long sto
Cat Gardiner has re-created the past in the dress, manner, and speech of her characters, and while loosely in homage to Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, this WWII epic romance spans five decades. The heartbreak, the love, the devotion, and the regret leap from these pages. Did Lillian’s independence from the Renners leave her blind to her sisters’ dilemmas? Did Kitty, the younger sister plagued by polio, let emotion overtake her better judgement? Did Lizzy act too rashly when Will was shipped ov ...more
The intended love story contained within the pages of A Moment Forever will leave you breathless, excited, desolate, weepy, and then finally joyous. Ducky and Pistol have an unusual connection and a bright, hot relationship in the middle of WWII that stands the test of time. The Unintended love story is just as endearing and just as unusual in its connection. I loved Ducky and Pistol and their story. I loved Juliana and Jack almost as much. "Where do I begin?
To tell the story of how great a love can be
The sweet love story that is older than the sea
The simple truth about the love he brings to me
Where do I start?" (Shirley Bassey)
This is exactly how I feel about this poignant, heart-breaking, soul reaching saga of a love for all time. Where do I begin to explain how moving and powerful this book is. Love, betrayal, secrets, regrets, atonement, restitution and forgiveness...but how does one forgive, let alone go on, from such pain of
In the summer of 1992, a young writer is bequeathed the abandoned home of a great-uncle she never knew. The house has a romantic history and is unlike any home she has ever seen. Juliana Martel felt as though she stepped into a time capsule—a snapshot of 1942. The epic romance—and heartache—of the former occupant unfold through reading his wartime letters found in the attic, compelling her on a quest to construct the man. His life, as well as his sweetheart’s, during the Second World War
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. Similar to Mary Lydon Simonsen's "Searching For Pemberley" this story weaves WWII history with current day as various love story unfolds.
The story covers a wide range of topics such as undying love, betrayal, heartache, family dynamic, patriotism, fear, guilt, atonement, and forgiveness. A major aspect of this story also covers historical aspects of the 1940's known as the Greatest Generation - The lifestyle of the rich and society debutantes
An Amazing love story during the WWII. I enjoyed all the characters and the complexities of life especially during the war. I agree with the weight of secrets and miscommunication in families that changed the life of people. I'm afraid of the non acceptance of others that are not from the same race or religion as yours. This story, so well constructed,could be a real one. ...more
Love Cat Gardiner's writing. The Darcy and Elizabeth tale is told here looking backward, as a present day relative seeks more information about the pair who met and fell in love during World War II. Definitely a unique variation and one to be read over and over. ...more
Never Forget ... Never Forgotten
A Moment Forever is a masterwork of comparisons.
A mystery reveals a romance and the romance reveals two worlds of conflicts and comparisons.
The author introduces us to the initial perception of a young woman in 1992 who blindly stumbles into her inheritance: a house that was never a home. Where first she sees only the base value of her prize, she quickly realises that dust and cobwebs delicately cover more than furniture and photos. Her youth and narrow life exp
Maybe I expected too much. I wanted to read this novel from the first time I read about it. It sounded like everything was in it that I love--history, an bequeathed (abandoned) house, different timelines, and the promise that everything turns out. I guess I expected a magical story...and this might not have been fair.
The fact that I finished the story (some 557 pages) proves that the author writes flowingly, just not for me. I found that her characters too much the same, so much so that I often
I have read all of Cat Gardiner’s previous books and loved them all. However, “A Moment Forever” is definitely her best. It’s a beautiful story about everlasting love, forgiveness, atonement and so much more. It tells the story of a war love that survived everything and changed and touched so many lives along the way. The author’s dedication to details, real historical facts and amazing research can be seen throughout the whole story, that takes the reader back and forth between 1942 and 1992. B ...more
A Moment Forever was enchanting. I have always had a fascination with WWII so this trip back in time to the era of the Great Patriotic War really captured my heart. A marvelous story
With the past and the present merging to conform a tale of enduring love spanning several decades and the conversion into believers of people distrustful of love. A love that touched and influenced lives in innumerable ways. It touched my heart and made me laugh and cry. A very worthy reading.
I have read most of Cat Gardiner's books, they are all wonderful, but this one stole my heart.
Juliana is such an engaging character, reading her side of the story, unfolding the mystery with her, was, to me, the best part of the story. Ducky & Pistol's story is heartbreaking and dark, but is also lots of fun. So get yourself a good box of tissues but prepare to laugh and cry and then laugh some more.
I also enjoyed the 30' jargon, and the jumping from the 30' to the 90'. I do remember thinking to
Another Cat Gardiner intriguing novel
This story spanned 50 years between Elizabeth Renner and William Martel and was heartbreaking, exciting and nail-bitingly fantastic. Cat writes bringing us into WWII history involving Nazi sympathizers, the horrifying ways the Jews were treated and the all encompassing US patriotism of many of the characters. The love story that spanned 50 years is the heart of the central story-telling and is extremely moving and touching!! I can see a continuing story invol
Historical fiction with authentic period descriptions are the best. Cat did a great job of telling an interesting story appropriate for two time periods.
So I have never been into romance novels, but because of all the great reviews, and the mystery that the young writer in the novel was trying to uncover, I thought I would like this book. And I did like it (hence, 3 stars). The chapters alternated between 1992 and 50 years ago (1942-1949), as the author unfolded the story that Juliana, the young lady who inherited a beautiful, but abandoned home, and millions of dollars from her great-uncle, was uncovering through her investigations. Oh my dear heart. What a beautifully written WW II love story with shades of Pride and Prejudice. It was gripping and so emotionally charged. I love all of Cat Gardiner’s books, and somehow this one had escaped my attention. I’m glad I discovered it because I believe it’s her best. It’s definitely a tear jerker. Highly recommend. I wish I could give it more than five stars. This is one of my top Austen-inspired books, and simply could not put it down until I finished it.
