Annie Hawthorn's life is a living hell. She's about to graduate from high school in beautiful Bellmoral, Colorado, but she's caught the eye of the campus mean girl. In order to get back at her, Annie unleashes a little hell of her own when she discovers her late aunt’s grimoire.
Now that there's a demon on the loose, things aren't so funny. Annie's best friend has been turned into a cat. She's doing her homework in hell. Her after school job at the greenhouse is punctuated by frequent demonic interruptions.
But it's worse than that, because Charlie, the demon, claims that her aunt isn't dead, and she owes him a debt. And until Annie can find her, he's holding her life ransom.
This is the story that Will Not End. Each “novella” runs together, the problems just keep compounding, and resolution never seems to be close to occurring. It is frustrating to read so long and have very little satisfaction from it. Blah.
Book 1 – After being targeted by a bully at school Anise’s friend Bianca suggests she use her deceased aunt’s spell book to summon a demon. Charlie shows up, ready and willing to do all in his power to help them with their problem. But when the bully winds up in the hospital and he turns Bianca into a cat since he needed a corporeal form to exist in their world, Anise makes a bargain with him.
Book 2 – Anise finds she’s being stalked by a powerful warlock turned demon who, like Charlie, is a former lover of her aunt Kendra. And the warlock isn’t above using the classmate Anise has a crush on, turning him into a werewolf and sending him to Anise’s apartment where everyone was holed up under protective spells.
Book 3 – Kendra is finally back and treating Anise like she’s a child and has Charlie wrapped around her little finger.
Comments: I loved Charlie! He was absolutely hilarious! I loved all of his odd habits and willingness to do things, just to prank Anise. I loved the relationship they had. The humor in this series is fantastic! Kendra, however, I hated on first impression. I hated her dismissive attitude of Anise and how Ani’s sister worshipped her. And I hated how Kendra was completely okay with Ani and Lyssa having to take care of her mess with the warlock. And I really hated how she had Charlie wrapped around her little finger like a lap dog, using sex to control him, which lessened my opinion of him. What a repugnant character and I didn’t get why the others worshipped her. I’m dying to continue this series, though I’m not looking forward to more of Kendra.
This is a sort of coming of age series where the characters are young and mainly unschooled in magic especially Annie who is in her final year of high school when she becomes the target of the school bully who does her best to turn her life into a living hell and make her embarrassed. Gates, her best friend, decides upon finding some books including a grimoire, to summon a demon and just like that they get Charlie. He wants to repay the favour of getting back his freedom so he puts Jennifer, the bully, into a coma which keeps on spiralling downwards until she nearly dies. He also turns Gates into a black cat and says that unless Annie tells him where her aunt Kendra was Gates would remain a cat. Kendra was the real witch, the one Charlie was bonded to and who she had banished back to hell. Kendra was also supposedly dead and to all extents and purposes Annie had no clue otherwise. Annie was a nerd and a knowledge hoarder so Charlie promised to teach her anything she wanted to learn if she became his bridge so he could remain in this realm. She agreed but kept on agreeing to many more compromises as he kept using emotional blackmail against her and her family namely Lyssa, her sister. I hated this book's ending as Charlie vanished leaving Gates as a cat and her family mourning her.
Liked the book over the fact that there was enough to read, not a fan of the female leading character- wish the best friend was the main lead cause she had more spunk to daring herself to do things. Hate the demon Charlie as he seems to be using the girl's weakness against her. Anise bored me alot, wasn't independent, didn't voice her own decisions instead made everyone around her tell her wht to do and what was bestfor her- especially Charlie and in the end she ended up depending on her family and friends even though she was the one with the power. Too trusting to anyone who says 'i was your aunt's friend.' Or 'I can help you with your problems.' My least favorite part was the werewolf she welcomed at her home- she welcomed the monster that tried to kill her and ruined one of her friend's life in her house. 😡 I like the sister, she was helpful, wise and cautious but also didn't hold back when it came to defending her family. Hate Kendra, deserves the award for worst aunts cause of something she did nearly the end of the book.
Thought this was mostly about witches, so I got an education about various types of paranormal beings. Well written, strong characters, very complex. Not my usual reading material, but I enjoyed it. I try not to be judgmental about about reading material and will usually try anything once. May read the next book to find out what happens to everybody. If you are interested, it's well worth reading.
I am not a fan of books that don’t have clean endings but I did enjoy theses.
The story line is very interesting with many twists and turns. It would be a lot better if it had a little more comic relief with so many bad things happening. I read them in just a couple of days so they are engaging and keep you on edge.
I love that this was a story I couldn't guess what was going to happen. I love the relationship ship Annie and Gates have as well as how Charlie is almost like that cousin who always gets you in trouble but would also save your ads of needed. I cannot wait to read more from this fellow Coloradan!
The storyline was good but the first two books ended weirdly, in my opinion. The ending of the third book was good.
I want to know more about several of the characters, particularly those who were there in the third book. I also want to know more about the sumac and its importance. But I guess I'll have to read the next book.
I would recommend this series to anyone! I don't usually enjoy books about witches and vampires, but this series drew me in and didn't let me go! The story flowed and the characters were very real and likeable. An easy and enjoyable journey!
What ever can go wrong certainly does in this book. From the description given about this book, it promises to entice you into a totally different world, and it hooks you from the start. Be prepared to learn all about witches and what happens when you play with magic.
When a bad demon does good things, there is a problem. When only portions os a family knows and practices witchcraft, there is a problem. When the two problems mix, who knows what to expect!
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
Vampires, witches, warlocks, demons and such. Very good characterizations and plot. Best novel I've read in a while. Fast paced action and the characters well made.
This book started out slow and boring. Descriptions were to much. I really wouldn't recommend the book. I tried to keep reading but i just lost interest.
I've read this, and although I did enjoy it, reading some of the reviews got me thinking. So, here's what I think: Point 1:These three novels should be one book. It feels like the story would flow more if they were one and because this is an omnibus (no idea what that means) it sort of already felt like one novel. Point 2: (This is me venting also spoiler!) DO NOT READ FROM THIS POINT ON IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE WHOLE THREE NOVELS!!!!!!!!! Ok, I warned you. Charlieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I read these books about two years ago and I was so excited to reread them (Long story, don't ask why I didn't read them in the two years). Anyway, I got off track. So I was very excited to reread this..... and then enter Charlie. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I'm not complaining, but I had forgotten how annoying he is. Again not complaining, but he just nags the main character through the book to do things for him and it goes like this: Charlie "I need you to do this for me...", Anna "No"(or something like it), Charlie "Do it, do it, do it...", Anna "FINE", repeat. I am not complaining, seriously, this is probably one of my favorite books. Please comment, I want to know what you think. Bye, Me.
Edit: Okay the person who annoyed me most was her because she just said "Fine." Also, why do I imagine Charlie as really hot?
