Worthy of Song and Story
By: Neal Chase

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

If you love Rick Riordan's books of Norse gods and their demigod children then you will find this book engaging and enjoyable!

The best part of this book is that the characters have depth. So often, in this sort of book, characters can be slightly one-dimensional. Our main character (Stian) is Loki's son. Mythology paints Loki as cunning and out to create mayhem (even a bit of evi

am embarrassed to say that this was a hold over from 2016 on Netgalley. For whatever reason I kept putting it off and I am sorry that I did for it was a really good story and deserves more attention. I think it is meant to be the first in a series but I have not found any indication that more are to be published which is a shame.

This is a pretty short and fast paced read about Stian who is a viking in training. There is no holding back in how brutal being a viking can be in the opening chapter

Stian is a 12 year old Viking who is the son of a chief of a small Viking village. He wants to make himself the best Viking ever. However when he goes to battle, he is saved. Why? He is then captured by a dark elf named Dahlia. Stian discovers that his father is really Loki. He also discovers he has special powers. He also becomes best friends with Dahlia.

There is so much more to this story but I don't want to spoil it. It is a novel full of action and Norse mythology. I found it making me laugh

Worthy of Song and Story by Neal Chase takes places in the time of vikings. The moments of suspense and mischief fit the main character, Stian, son of the trickster god Loki. Though what Stian plans to do is against the will of the gods, this narcissistic character will stop at nothing to free Loki from his bonds and have a real family once and for all. This wonderful tale of courage and family has its moments of hopelessness, joy, suspicion, and heart-pounding adventure, complete with moments o ...more

I love Norse mythology, and I love that so many more books are coming out that explore it. Worthy of Song and Story follows an adopted, preteen Viking, Stian, who finds out his real dad is actually Loki, the trickster Jotun god imprisoned by Thor. Setting out on a quest to free him, aided by Dahlia, the daughter of a dark-elf prophetess who can control fire, Stian attempts to create a legacy worthy of story and song.

Stian is an endearing, relatable twelve year old boy. His reactions as discover

I thought this book was absolutely charming! Any adventurous middle schooler will love the fun and adventurous story about a young boy and best friend (who is a female with thoughts and strength - imagine!) trying to intervene in the business of the gods. It was laugh out loud funny and very well written. Can't wait to read more by Neal Chase.

What a fantastic read! The story kept me engaged from beginning to end. The world building is good, and the characters jumped off the page. I love the dynamic between Stian and Dahlia. Their dialogue was witty and entertaining. My nine-year-old son and I both enjoyed it immensely. Neal Chase has introduced his readers to a legendary character worthy of song and story. Bravo!

This is a pretty solid middle-grade, historical fiction, fantasy novel. If you're interested in reading about vikings or Norse mythology, though, this book just kind of skims the surface of both, despite being about a viking who is the son of a Norse god. It's more of a buddy comedy, adventure novel, which is fine, just not what you'd expect based on the title and cover.

Like the summary says, this is a son of Loki, Viking story. The MC, a young boy, grew up in a Viking village, but he has a Loki kind of attitude (trickster, happy-go-lucky) that makes this a really enjoyable read.

I'd compare this to the Percy Jackson series - the same half-blood with super powers idea, but it is different, since it's not set in the modern era, but in the Viking period, even if I felt it wasn't 100% true to history at times, but we don't get nit-picky with a good book, right? Al

Worthy of Song and Story by Neal Chase is the first book of the Stian the Viking series. Twelve-year-old Stian wants to be the best viking ever. He wants to prove this by going on a raid with his father, but ends up being saved, but by whom he doesn't know. He is then captured by a dark elf named Dahlia, on her mother's command. Stian finds out his father isn't who he thought, and that Loki is his real father. Stian and Dahlia set off on a quest to free Stian's Loki from the prison that Odin has ...more

Stian has always wanted to do a noteworthy deed in battle so that his name would be remembered. As the clumsy son of Thorald, chief of a small Viking village, he works hard to gain his father's approval and become a man. After chasing a mysterious girl though the woods, his eyes are opened to the reality that he might not be the son of Thorald after all; he, Stian, might be the son of Loki, destined for greatness after all. The catch is that Stian is going to have to prove it. With some help fro ...more

I'm going to be quick about this because I really don't have the time with my exams going on this weekend.

This was like a weird, and rather failed, Percy Jackson story - with Norse mythology, though (and no, Magnus Chase doesn't count as something like that because that's actually enjoyable). We get the child with the divine parents, who at first doesn't know his heritage, and then he tries to help and save said parents. Honestly, it would have been much better, but Stian ruined it all by himse
