Okaaay, wait...WHAT!! I'm getting dizzy from the twisty turns!
Rangers is a gruff gritty detective. Good one-liners for every occasion. He's the real deal too, heart the size of a pea, hard fisted, darkness all around. So how does the beautiful Roxy fit in here? And what about the kid? Just in case this is getting too warm and fuzzy for you...the twists have not started!
Criminals abound, some are close and slide by without getting noticed. Some are horribly obvious, and wind up leaking brain fluid all over the nasty floors of a warehouse. Little warning here, don't get too attached to the bad guys. Further warning, don't think you have a handle on this until the final page, be prepared to say, "WHAT"!!
Space opera detective noir for the win! Johnny Rangers: Space Detective is a fun romp through a crime filled future with intrepid detective and man's man, Rangers. I enjoyed the story, with it's well developed characters and nonstop action. Cabrera has created something unique and fun, and I can't wait to read the next installment in the series. Well done, sir!
It is an intriguing concept of gods, aliens, police work and a guy who hates the politics of it all. I feel like I know nothing about Rangers, the world he inhabits and that the story just needed more fleshing out. Too many players no context. Interesting story idea, just didn’t meet what I was hoping for.
One thing that I love about Johnny Rangers is that he doesn’t take things too seriously. He is an old-school kind of guy who rolls with the punches, and throws a few, while tracking down criminals within the bowels of Gravity City. Gravity City is not as majestic as it once was. One may compare it, instead, to an over ripe banana. But that doesn’t matter to Rangers. He loves his city, and he is dedicated to protecting it. This is a light-hearted, fun read that includes lots of action and interesting characters. The ending leaves plenty of room for wild speculation.
There's a lot of stellar old-school style detective behavior to Johnny Rangers. The character descriptors are amazing. I can't wait to read #2 and see where this leads. Too bad Roxy isn't around anymore, and somebody needs to curtail Jet's activities! Not to worry, though. Johnny's on the case. Something tells me the Kid is a big part.
