Butterfly: on her lower back
Her curse: Misery, depression, tears, emotional pain. Her voise makes people commit suicides. It makes them crazy with sadness. Cameo was never happy.
Lazarus: Immortal warrior. Son of Typhon and Echidna, a Gorgon. King of the Realm of Grimm and Fantica
Supernatural ability: He is the son of the most feared immortal on Earth and a gorgon. Gorgons were a vicious race known for venomous snakes that grew from their scalps and an ability to turn anyon ...more
Going to try and keep this short-ish (who am I kidding? 😂) and straight to the point.
What I liked?
For me what made this decent was the ongoing development between Cameo and Lazarus prior to this book. Their story was built up since Torin’s book. So their (re)connection and his possessive ‘mine mine mine!’ in here carried weight. I felt it and believed it. This couple is perfect example of why I gravitate toward couples built overtime in this series rather than ...more
So, it was an improvement from the last 2-3 books in this series but it's not without it's flaws, of course.
Lazarus and Cameo were a HUGE disaster waiting to happen and it was really close to be exactly that but it wasn't just because we were already familiar with the couple. I think that if Cameo and Lazarus' story began in this book, it would've been a mess.
I don't know how long I can continue reading stories were the male character vomits the word "mine" pretty much in chapt ...more
He couldn’t get enough of her, this woman who’d enchanted him past all reason. She was passion and pleasure, suddenly his sole reason for breathing.”
Is it just me, or does the wait between releases in this series get more and more painful every time I finish another book? Because I'm pretty sure I've been rocking myself in a corner ever since we got teased with the possibility of Lazarus and Cameo back in The Darkest Touch. You'd think that after 13 books in a series, I'd find ...more
To say I was worried going into this read would be an understatement. After the nap fest that was Baden's book I didn't have high hopes going into Cameo's book, even though I loved her and Lazarus. I ended up really enjoying this read for the most part. I loved Cameo and Lazarus relationship. I felt their connection. I also loved Viola, Ever and Urban. Urban was so damn cute with his crush on Viola. The flow of this book was much better. ...more
Finally we have the book I’ve been impatiently waiting for the last two years - Cameo and Lazarus!
“I can walk into a room and ruin a party,” she snapped. “You can open your mouth and do the same.”
Not missing a beat—when did he ever?—he traced his white-hot tongue around the shell of her ear. “Speaking of a party... I’m inviting myself to the one in your pants.”
Cameo is probably my favorite of the Lords of the Underworld. Possessed by the demon of Misery, she is unable to experie...more
To be honest, at this point I'm only continuing with this series because of William... All my fav characters aren't even mentioned much anymore, new characters resemble the old ones, the plots are somewhat not working for me and most importantly I'm a little tired of waiting for Gilliam to finally happen! It's been 11 books...haven't we been patient enough? And now after finishing this one, I'm not even sure if it'll ever happen...argh!
Gena needs to stop toying with ...more
At least I really liked the relationship between Cameo and Lazarus. It felt natural and right.
Also, I'm intrigued about Viola. I didn't like her much in the previous books, but she has definitely caught my attention now. The same goes to Siobhan. Let us hope for the best, but wait for the worst.

Lords of the Underworld book 13. Dark paranormal romance. Best read as part of the series.
Cameo is the only female demon in the series. She carries the demon of Misery. If she experiences joy, her memory is erased. She is paired with Lazarus the Cruel.
Lots of crying by guards because of Misery.
Lots of dark actions and between Misery, Lazarus, and situations.
Worth reading if you are invested in the series since these two have been included in previous sto ...more
I didn't even finish the last book.
I'm sorry but most of the females in this series are immature beyond belief, but somehow Gilly isn't WOMAN enough for William?
William the Ever Randy with his own 747 full of baggage and immaturity and irresponsibility?
Yeah. That's bull and I'm calling it.
I would love nothing more than to continue this series but until I know for sure what happens, I'm on a L ...more

I literally have not gobbled up a book this quick in so long. My attention was 100% into it. This book has action, drama, romance, humor, mythology – dark moments, touching moments, what more could I want? This is definitely in the top 3 from the 16/18 books this entire world has so far.
And as always, this series always manages to shock me with how w ...more
I have to say, I have been waiting for so long and I was expecting a solid 5 from this book, Im a little disappointed :( ..
I liked it, but it definitely fell from Gena Showalter's standards..

“When everything has gone wrong, rejoice. Something must now go right.”
Lazarus and Cameo's book was everything I wanted. Have been waiting for it since Kane's book.
Cameo is a better character than I anticipated, I thought she would be boring cause of her demon, but she is anything but. Despite the demon making her miserable as it does others.
Lazarus is amazing, I always knew this but his POV made him better, his thoughts are crazy. But his love for Cameo overcame his paranoia and quest for v ...more
Note: this is the first ebook I've ever bought!

From Lazarus' thoughts we realize that he had met Cameo on 2 previous occasions before being "trapped" in the Rod. On those occasions he recognized her as his μονομανία but because his own father's μονομανία led to his destruction Lazarus stays away from her. When they meet in the Rod he is aware of what she is to him and though they ended up making out Cameo is rescued without things going further.
Weeks later her demon has once again ta ...more
Lazarus, the Cruel and Unusual, a child of a god and ruler of a kingdom, will stop at nothing to crack Cameo’s unhappiness…but he also doesn’t want to keep her because of the curse his father has passed down to him.
Will he cruelly rip away any happiness Cameo might find?
Can they beat the untenable odds, the dark forces plotting against them?

Wow.....This book made my heart race, goosebumps spread all over my skin, and I'm trying to wrap my head around what just happened. The Darkest Promise is by far my favorite book of this year! I was hooked from the very first page, and could not put it down. PNR lovers you need this series in your life. Baden's story was a low rating and now Cameo's story isn't rated at all, the latter being in said folder so it's time to stop, time to prevent further disappointment.
Sometimes I feel we can 'outgrow' a series and I have to admit defeat in this case, The Lords are no longer part of my heart (sobs).

First of all, this review is going to be very long, and full of spoilers, so if you haven't read the book yet and you don't want your eyes to explode...beware
Second of all, if you aren't a Gilliam Shipper your may probably want to skip this review and continue with your life. The same remains to those who are hardcore Gena fans. It's going to be nasty and i won't shut up anything.
Ok then. Lets get started.
