This graphic nonfiction biography presents Queen Elizabeth I of England, and chronicles her rise to power in 1558, the royal House of Tudor, and the passing of the English throne to the Stuarts in 1603.
Admittedly it is a difficult task to adequately cover the fascinating life and times of Elizabeth I. This graphic novel presentation is more or less an overview and covers much in a small format. Shone’s book serves well as an introduction to this venerable British monarch.
It might be because I'm not that fond of the subject matter but to me this book was just so boring and badly drawn that I don't see anyone enjoying the read. The cover artwork alone should be enough to scare off possible readers. I'd just pass this one by.
Meh. This is definitely not a great graphic novel, but I can see the appeal to reluctant readers. Most of the material covered here is also discussed in the picture book Good Queen Bess, which is far superior.
