Gamer Girl has one of the most unique premises of any Chick Lit novel I’ve ever read. As you can probably guess from the book’s title, its heroine, Meri Palmer, is a gamer who spends most of her spare time online, living a second (And much more exciting!) life as a kick-butt fairy who’s on a mission to save her people. For Meri, this game is both therapy and an escape from the loneliness and insecurity she’s felt since losing her parents when she was young. She’s happy in this fantasy world and ...more

I have never been one for video games, so I'm not gonna lie, I was a little lost for a while in the different video "speak" sections. But once I read a few I found it quite interesting and it helped me understand the world that my son loves just a little bit better! Score one for mom!
When your reality gets turned upside down, what would you do? In Meri Palmer's world the only place that she can escape to is the world's and lives she has created in video games. She can connect better with those

Gamer Girl is a light hearted, fun, and easy read. I loved the cast of characters, especially Meri's grandmother Stelly. She constantly made me laugh out loud. She was a real hoot! I love stories about how people's pasts influence and almost dictate how they live their lives Gamer Girl was exactly this type of story. I loved how both Meri and Morgan's pasts really impacted their relationship.

I have to admit, I initially I didn't enjoy the gamer aspect part of the story. After reading the first

Since the author's other books were all based on her real life, I wondered how she would make the transition to complete fiction. I wasn't disappointed at all! This book was by turns humorous, heartbreaking, romantic, but always unique. Like some other readers, I wasn't initially into the gaming portion of each chapter, but when I realized they were integral to the plot of the book, I went back. I'm so glad I did because there was a twist at the end I would have missed if I hadn't and it was so ...more

I received an advance copy of Gamer Girl in exchange for an honest review. As a fan of Astie's "French" series, I must say, Glynis Astie has done it again with her delightful new book Gamer Girl!

Madcap hijinks and sweet romance abound as gamer girl Meri tries to navigate life in New York City. But with her tragic past, battling mystical armies online is way easier than bravely blossoming into her own skin, making her mark professionally or, most terrifying of all, going out with the guy she's t

This book mixed in chick lit romance with some nerdy video-gameness. It was a great touch to have the video game story in each chapter as well. The author integrated the video game storyline very well and the writing was smooth to follow. Great read next to the pool over the weekend! I am not a fan of video games but I truly enjoyed reading this story since it mixed in some romantic comedy and chick lit. Highly recommend!

I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Description: Meri is a shy, socially awkward twenty-something with very few friends and a passion for video games. She works for a video game company as an assistant to a total diva of a game designer. She performs miracles keeping him happy while also striving toward her own dream of having her video game created. This busy work-life on top of her gaming habit don't leave her much time for dating. Not that she would want to seeing how her past relationship ended. Enter Morgan, the dreamiest of ...more

It's took me a long time to finish this book because it is a very big book, but it was well written and had an intriguing group of characters. I think the pacing moved very well especially considering the size, but I did find myself uncertain toward the third act on why things were taking a turn. This is not my normal type of book, so please take that into consideration as you read this review. The author met my cousin and she referred her to me. And I'm so glad she did! What I did love and thin ...more

Loved Gamer Girl

This book is a wonder mix of science fiction fantasy and modern literature. It had me laughing, get a little irritated at the characters, but I was never bored. It has a few unexpected twists. It's worth a read!

I have to admit when I heard of this book I was very excited. First off there was Ms. Astie herself, who I had encountered on social media and is so lovely, but also I love to hear of concepts that are chick lit but with a twist on them, and this sounded right up might street! Add to this the cover (how gorgeous is it, honestly!) and I jumped to review. I'll point out straight away that while I used to pay video games, and now have sons who play video games, I'm not a gamer, and I still did real ...more

I liked the initial blurb when I was offered to read and review Gamer Girl. It actually reminded me a little of Sophie Kinsella’s ‘Finding Audrey’. I think that this idea of mine mixed up my thought processes of the book initially, as I was imaging Meri as a teenager. However, she is actually in her 20’s. So my ideas of what to expect were wrong.

Once I got into the book, I grew to love the main character Meri. She has had a tough time growing up, and now living with her Grams. (brilliant charac

Gamer Girl by Glynis Astie is her first novel that is not based on her own life (Her French series was loosely based on her life). Gamer Girl is a charming romantic comedy that is set in New York City. Astie’s quintessential voice shines through, and her trademark quirky relatives and less-than-graceful heroines are ever present.
Hiding in a virtual world after tragically losing her parents, Meri Palmer is an insecure, introverted gamer. I adored her unusual name story. I could feel her parents’

Meri Palmer loves her job developing video games, having inherited a love of Disney and role-playing games from her parents. She escapes whenever she can into her fantasy life in a virtual world as Pix, the fairy warrior, much preferring that to dealing with reality and real people. It’s her way of hiding from the insecurity and sorrow resulting from the tragedy of her parents’ deaths when she was just a child. Pix is everything Meri believes she is not – brave, strong and a fighter.

Glynis Astie is one of my new favorite authors, and I'll tell you why: She is versatile, she is funny and her writing just gets better with each book. I read her debut trilogy (French Twist, French Toast, and French Fry), which was loosely based on her own life and enjoyed the books immensely. I was looking forward to reading Gamer Girl, her fourth novel, and was thrilled (a.k.a. stupid excited!!) when she sent me an aRC. I promised to read it and review it (honestly!) and so here we are.

First of all I have to say I loved Meri and I connected with her character straight away. After hearing about her tragic past I think it would be hard not to feel some sympathy and understanding for her character. Declan was perfect as her best friend and I loved their interactions. They made me smile on more than one occasion. Morgan was a good love interest and it was lovely to see how they slowly got to know each other. Although I'm sure like every other reader there is one point in this book ...more

Gamer Girl by Glynis Astie

Initially I had difficulties following the gaming part of the story, which starts each chapter. I started to skim it and concentrate on the reality part of the story. Once I realized how tied together the two were it was easier to follow both stories.

Having read Glynis's first three books I was eager to read this one; very different from her first three. I enjoyed the story and look forward to her future books.

Meri Palmer has had a rough life, having lost both her pare

If I had the time, I would have devoured this book when I first bought it! It's that good!
As a fellow gamer, okay I play mostly Sims, this story line drew me in. It's a wonderfully light-heated, romantic, giddy story that plays on many emotions.
Meri was my complete opposite (a heroic, selfless fairy in her online world!) but that's what I adored about her! That's what intrigued me. I found her spunky and funny, and Lord did I LOVE her relationship with her Grams. Her grandmother was such a hila

Glynis never expected in her wildest dreams to be a writer. After thirteen years in the Human Resources Industry, she decided to stay at home with her two amazing sons. Ever in search of a project, she was inspired to write the story of how she met and married her wonderfully romantic French husband, Sebastien, in six short months. The end result became her first novel, French Twist. As this was j ...more
