What It Will Take: Rejecting Dead-Ends and False Friends in the Fight for the Earth

Rate this book
Why are we losing our fight for the Earth? And how do we turn things around? What It Will Take provides the big-picture review we need to answer these crucial questions. It lays out what we’re up against - a system rigged for the wealthy few where money in politics is just the tip of the iceberg. It examines how environmental groups often reinforce that system and squander our power. And it explains what we need to do to take control of our destiny. Solutions abound for all the world’s problems. When we leave dead-ends and false friends behind, we will be able to put those solutions in place.

Too many unaddressed questions

The best part is the beginning, where she lays out the lessons of her experience working on farm worker pesticide exposures. As she dipped into areas where she has no expertise, I found myself often saying, "Yes, but." Especially glaring was her failure to address sectarianism and the long-standing failure of socialist groups to coalesce and gain a wide following in the last 70+ years. If we can't convince each other, we certainly can't win over a working class that would vote for Trump.
