Rate this book
At Dr. Christopher's funeral, many people who had been told by their doctors they would never be able to have children of their own arrived with children many of them respectfully named John, Raymond and Christopher having been helped through his counseling and therapies to enjoy the blessing of having their own children. This is only one of the many successes you will read about in this delightful book. This refers to the fifth printing of the book. From his beginnings as an orphan abandoned in Salt Lake City, Utah, to becoming the only practicing herbalist in the US Military and on through his years of treating, lecturing, and discovering his many well-known formulas, this wonderful book chronicles the life of one of America's foremost herbalists, Dr. John Raymond Christopher. Called the "Grand Daddy" of herbal medicine, he touched the lives of thousands of people, sharing life and hope with all who were in need.

For the last 20 years David Christopher has been a popular world wide speaker. He has generated new ideas on the management of high blood pressure, diabetes and auto-immune diseases, and was one of the first to discourage the use of Prozac in favor of natural methods. Alarmed by the growing use of Ritalin, David developed an alternative program for ADD and ADHD.

In 1974 David Christopher, M.H., took his place by his father's side at The School of Natural Healing. David's book entitled An Herbal Legacy of Courage is a loving tribute to his father. Today, thousands of individuals practice the art of natural healing thanks to David's continued directorship and teaching. Many more receive herbal instruction from David and his wife, Fawn, through their weekly radio program "A Healthier You". David lectures internationally and has offered educational counseling by phone for over 16 years. He continues formulating herbal combinations, such as the Herbal Traditions line, the Kid-e-Line, Vitalerbs, and the INSTEAD line including the Liver Formula and MindTrac; to assist the natural healing process.

I am reading this book because I am taking the Family Herbalist class from The School of Natural Healing. Dr. Christopher was an amazing man! I think this book would be worthwhile reading for anyone even if you don't have an interest in herbal healing. Dr. Christopher clearly had a mission in this life and fulfilled it despite many challenges and setbacks. A truely faith building and inspiring book.

Great book. I was able to personally benefit from Dr. Christopher's herbal knowledge when I was pregnant with Ben. I saw others whose health was also dramatically improved. I was amazed as I personally saw the viciousness of the persecution he endured - it was like walking on egg shells to share or use herbal knowledge in Etah at that time.

An eye opener of the life of David's father and the miracles he has done. What a humble man he was that never took credit for his natural healing but always said it was the lords work. This book has inspired me so much to not take my body for granted by feeding it processed foods and focus more on what the earth has provided for us.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Even if you don't get into the herb thing, it's a great story about a great man.

Great book! I like all the miraculous stories. It helped me to learn a great deal. If you’re looking for a good book on what herbs do what this is mediocre. It tells a lot about the different herbs, but it doesn’t give too many specifics on now to use them such as quantities and measurements. It does give several examples though. It was also an enjoyable read.

I would call this more of a testimony rather than a biography. It was interesting to read about the different kinds of ailments Dr. Christopher treated with herbs. The last 10 pages or so included recommended herbal combinations for different ailments.

I had a friend when I lived in San Diego who was really into herbal eating and healing. She chose this book for a book club. While I did't embrace this way of life, I thought it was an excellent book, and I do believe in the powers of nature and plants to heal us. One part that particularly impressed me was that this man was able to help an adoptive mother start producing breast milk.

There are two kinds of bullshit: harmless bullshit and dangerous bullshit. This book falls into the latter category, because it might actually tempt folks to forego real medical treatment in favor of quack medicine. The "treatments" mentioned in this book are just patent medicine with a softer sales pitch.
