I only read this because it is based on a relative's life. It was readable and engaging, but for me, wishing to know more about Patsy, it was a bit of a disappointment due to the fact that I didn't know where fact ended and fiction started. It would have been nice if the letters at least had been left unedited. But from a family history perspective I feel unable to rely upon anything in this book as being an accurate narration of events which actually happened in Patsy's life.

Although parts of this book were enjoyable, I found the ending to be flat with many unanswered questions.

I expected to be captivated by the living-on-the-edge experiences portrayed in the real letters by a British midwife working in coastal northern Labrador in the 1970s, and that indeed happened. A delightful surprise was being even more drawn to the contemporary story of the letter writer living on the edge of memory loss. Well done!
