Thorfinn #6

Thorfinn and the Raging Raiders

Rate this book
Prepare yourself for the wrath of the Norsemen! That is, if you don't mind and it's not too inconvenient... Everyone knows Vikings are ruthless barbarians whose idea of a good time involves pillaging, plundering and feasting. But Thorfinn is no ordinary Viking! He is always polite and happily offers to wash the dirty dishes. Too bad his dad is Harald the Skull-Splitter, Village Chief and the roughest and toughest Viking of them all. Indgar villagers are out watching an elk polo match, the village is attached, and Thorfinn's mum goes missing, presumed kidnapped. Harald, Velda Thorfinn and his boisterous brothers chase the mysterious raiders across the North Sea towards Scotland. Will Thorfinn the Nicest Viking manage to find his mum and bring her back home safe and sound? Thorfinn the Nicest Viking is a funny, illustrated, action-packed series for young readers which bridges the gap between Horrid Henry and Diary of a Wimpy Kid , set in a world where manners mean nothing and politeness is pointless!

If being the polite, obedient son of a fierce Viking chief is not the easiest matter, you might try being married to the big brute and being the mother to three sons just like their father. In this book, part of a hilarious series from Great Britain, Thorfinn-the-Very-Very-Nice-Indeed heads off with his father, his three brothers, and his best friend Velda to find Freya, Thorfinn's mother. At first, they are sure she's been kidnapped by raiders and are all set to wreak havoc on anyone who dared to disturb the village. But as it turns out, perhaps Freya just needed a bit of a break from all that work and all that noise back home. The text and illustration will make most readers smile and perhaps serve as a quick reminder to show some appreciation for those who labor behind the scenes to make our lives run so smoothly. The scenes with those very large underpants and the Viking men scratching their rears in discomfort from wearing the same underwear for days will amuse intermediate readers a great deal. This is funny stuff, especially for its targeted audience.

A fun silly series focusing on a Viking tribe with a troublesome chief’s son Thorfinn (ie/ he’s thoughtful and polite and not at all marauding).
In this book raiders ransack the village while everyone is watching a sports match and Freya (mother of Thorfinn) disappears. So the outraged tribe sails out to retrieve her.

Sam really liked this book about a Viking mother who has enough and goes away to the spa! A funny and entertaining story.
