Delivered by Angels

Rate this book
Determined to escape her abusive father and drunken mother, Lexi Johnson turns to the blade to numb her pain, but it isn’t enough to end her misery. She’s convinced that not even God could save her now.

Roxy Taylor is the new girl in town, and Lexi doesn’t trust her, especially when she teams up with DJ Tucker to try and break down the barriers that Lexi has put in place.

Little does Lexi know, there are greater forces battling for her life, and as Lexi begins to open up to both Roxy and DJ, she’ll see that she isn’t alone in this world.

In the heart-pounding sequel to Entertaining Angels, everyone’s favorite angel, Zach Taylor, is back, and he’s there to make sure that Madison and Chase Sanders are on the path that God has chosen for them, a path that could deliver Lexi from the demons who want her soul.

Delivered by Angels
Emerald Barnes

Join Lexi as she journeys through her nightmarish days to find relief and contentment. DELIVERED BY ANGELS is a wonderful story filled with heavenly intervention as well as psychological theories on this painful condition.
Reading this novel, one can relate to adolescent angst, emotional disturbances and the power of the Lord.

Another thought provoking, heart string pulling, chord striking book by Emerald Barnes.
I do hope there's still more to come from the characters in this book series. I wouldn't say I was deeply religious, and I don't attend a church regularly. In fact if a book has a lot of religious content it generally irritates me and I can't read it but Emerald Barnes books must be the exception to that as I love her books.

Isn't this cover fabulous?! :)

Madison and Chase are back! Even though this story isn’t about them, what a treat to see where life has taken them and how their faith has grown. Their favorite angel, Zach, has also returned, but there’s a new mission this time and now there’s a new angel named Roxanne who must help out.

Lexi lives in an abusive home and in order to cope, she cuts herself. She knows this is wrong, but she would rather feel pain in the cutting than feel numb like her drunken mom. If she can just survive one more year, she will be of age and have the ability to move out. Little does she know that God loves her and has big plans for her life. She will soon meet Roxy, the new girl at school, and DJ, the boy she works with but has never spoken to. Roxy and DJ will become persistent befriending Lexi, their hearts and their prayers will change everything Lexi has ever known.

This story took lots of courage to write and even though some of the content is tough, the love in the story shines through, both with the humans and angels. The issues dealt with in this are abuse, suicide, an eating disorder, and drinking.

It was also interesting seeing how Roxy takes to her human form in protecting Lexi. She struggles more than Zach did as a human and she genuinely wants to develop a close friendship with her charge.

There’s a scene in the story where Lexi is in a coffee shop when Madison, Chase, Zach and Roxy enter the place. It’s really cute because Lexi can’t get over how happy these people are, how bright Madison’s smile is, and how much love is there in the moment. Lexi is annoyed by this and wonders if she will ever have a chance at being so happy while she is dealing with so much oppression. It’s interesting because she has no idea how much Madison has overcome to become this happy, that as a direct result of her relationship with God she has befriended angels and married a Godly man who adores her, but none of that came easy or without suffering. Lexi is on the same path and doesn’t realize this. I felt such hope for her.

I really enjoyed this story despite the harsh issues because the author does such a great job in her storytelling. I had a few questions about the plot when I began reading and the author answers each of these questions to my satisfaction. The dysfunctional issues in the story are written with respect, authenticity, hope, and there is deliverance illustrated as the title mentions. The biggest message I received from this story is that no matter WHAT each of us are dealing with, there is a heavenly Father that loves us and angels are real and are sent to watch over us. We are NOT alone!

Lexi kept pushing DJ and Roxy away because she was suffering and didn’t want to burden them with her problems, but they never stopped pursuing her and that is truly the heart of God. He never stops pursuing us no matter how many times we reject Him.

I’m grateful for and blessed by authors like Barnes who steps out of her comfort zone out of obedience to write about such issues that will touch lives and minister to those in need. I look forward to more of her Entertaining Angels series.

I want to thank the author for the review copy provided in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Delivered by Angels is a sweet contemporary Christian novel with some romance.

In the first book in the series, an overweight, insecure teen girl is shown her value to God by an angel and her soon-to-be-boyfriend. This story follows a similar plot. Lexi’s father is physically abusive and her mother is an alcoholic, and Lexi deals with the pain by alienating any potential friends and by cutting herself. So God sends an angel named Roxy, paired with a co-worker named DJ, to help her.

As you can tell from the summary, this book deals with sensitive issues, and so here is my warning that they are written in a decent amount of detail. The author attempts to shed a Christian light on these very real issues, pointing Lexi and readers to seek God, let trustworthy friends in, and ask for professional help. I appreciated the author’s attempt at that; I’m not a professional, however, and so can’t determine whether the attempt was successful.

Angels play a major role in this story. On the one hand, it is great to be reminded that our battle is actually against demonic forces, not so much the people or things of this world, and that God is stronger and is on our side. However, with many novels featuring angels, the focus goes toward the angels (which cannot be represented correctly because not enough is known about them to do so) and not on the kind, loving, personal God, Jesus Christ, who sent them. I wish this book would have put more of the focus on God.

On the whole, I thought this book was a valuable attempt that could be useful in helping people with similar struggles to seek God and seek help. But I think it could have been done better.

I received a complementary copy of this book. All opinions are my own, and I was not obligated to provide a positive review.

I received this book in return for an honest review.

Emerald Barnes has done it again! How she isn't THE number one best author everywhere, I have no idea. We need to make that happen. Lol
Anywho, this book was so so so so amazing... Well, amazing doesn't cover this book and right now I honestly can't think of a word to cover it other than astounding in all the best ways.
This book made me cry so much but also gave me such hope. I remember being this girl when I was a teenager. Yeah, our lives were different, but our cutting battles were the same.
I loved that she kept Mads and Chase in the loop and kept us updated on them, but I'm also in love with these new characters.

I liked Roxy, but sadly, I didn't LOVE her. I mean, I know it's new being "human" but... it's kinda like ... I'm not even sure how to explain her... hard? Hard, I suppose. like she knew she needed to do this, but she didn't really know and it just made her so mad. I don't know. maybe I'm just use to Zach, he took being human much better than Lexi. Lol

Once again in the battle to save ones soul, I was in awe over this story. How a story can be so different, even though you know the outcome, it still just melts your heart and keeps you on your toes, gasping in awe and fear when something happens.
I'm so thankful for these books because even though I had this problem as a teen, doesn't mean my demons have gone away. They are still here and they still talk, but this book shows me that no matter what, God is still here and He still loves me and He wants me to keep fighting and I'm not fighting alone.

I really would recommend this series to everyone.

A Must Read!

I absolutely love Delivered By Angels. This book is a must read. Right from the start to its dramatic conclusion author Emerald Barnes captured my heartstrings. The protagonist Lexi's journey through pain and life difficulties became my own as I cheered her on to victory. Although Barnes tackles some heavy hitting issues in this book she writes in such a way that you can't help but emphasize with the central character. Whether or not you have read any of her other books in this amazing inspirational series you will feel right at home. I don't doubt that if you have not read any of the other books that you will read them after reading this amazing book. It was great to fall in love again with new characters and see my old friends, Chase, Madison, and Zach back together again.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
It was lovely to be re-united with well loved characters from the first novel & the novella. A great story, well written and a powerful message. Emerald has a gift for portraying difficult situations & characters so well. This is a must read for anyone battling depression/abuse/self harming - there is always hope & somewhere there is always someone in your corner!
This might not be the ideal cup of tea for a non-believer but it may be the catalyst for someone hovering on the edge to move to the side of the believers.
