When an out-of-control pickup nearly knocks Kate off the road, she’s shocked to discover Deputy Skip Spencer behind the wheel. Skip is jittery and distracted, and when she laters learns that he’s run off, it raises new questions about their encounter. Kate soon discovers that the Copper Mill Coin, a valuable and honored token from the town’s mining days, has been stolen from Town Hall, and Skip seems like the prime suspect. Kate sets out to prove Skip’s innocence—but she has to track him down first. Meanwhile, a group of tourists with an odd fascination rasises suspicions, and the disappearance of Paul’s personal coin collection casts doubt on a couple struggling to make ends meet. As Kate sets out for answers, she is reminded that sometimes the truth is found right where you least expect it.

Kate is a local pastor's wife and also has a lot of talents. One of them is doing her own detective work in her home town of Copper Mill in Tennessee. The deputy of Copper Mill, Skip Spencer, is seen almost running Kate off the road and disappears into the deep blue skies. No one knows where he is, not even his mother, Deloris, who is worried to death. What happens the morning Skip disappears, a very valuable coin that is kept locked up in the Town Hall also has disappeared. Skip is a very likable deputy, but also has the reputation of being clumsy and gullible. The sheriff and locals are suspecting Skip has taken the coin and left town. Kate starts investigating the disappearance and also the value of the coin. There is no foul language, and has a lot of scripture from the Bible which helps her and her pastor husband, Paul live their daily lives to the fullest. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my 1st book by this author, but it won't be my last.
