Pause for Thought

Rate this book
Highly designed and vibrantly colorful words of wisdom from the BBC’s spiritual radio show

This collection of scripts from BBC Radio 2's Pause for Thought showcases the incredible insights that the different faiths in the UK today offer to people of all religions - and to those of none. Together, these pieces provide a guide to finding happiness and achieving psychological wellness, despite all the challenges we face. In both the selection of pieces and in the contemporary design, the emphasis is on pausing - on stopping readers in their tracks and offering new ways of perceiving and connecting with each other.

The book features an exciting range of commentators with great public profile, such as comedians Shazia Mirza and Paul Kerensa and ex-Communard Richard Coles, with a Foreword by the show's presenters, Chris Evans and Vanessa Feltz. Each of the book's seven chapters has a theme, reinforcing the overall inspirational and positive message of the Live Boldly, Challenge Perceptions, Understand, Connect, Love, Be Thankful, Let Go. A superb gift as well as an inspiring self-purchase.

Every weekday morning, while driving on the school run, I listen to BBC Radio 2 and so, “Pause for Thought,” is very much a part of my day. This book contains transcripts from the collection of reflections, which have been broadcast on the show. They are presented by various faith leaders, but they are relevant to everyone; regardless of religion. They are just a thought for the day, a moment of calm in a hectic morning and many of them really do make you stop and think.

The book is split into various chapters and themes: Live Boldly, Understand, Challenge Preconceptions, Connect, Love, Be Thankful and Let Go. This is a lovely collection to dip into, especially if you are having a bad day and need to reflect and that is what this book is all about – pausing, reflecting and receiving inspiration.

GNAB I received a free electronic copy of this book of inspirational stories from Netgalley, Radio 2 and Watkins Publishing.

This book is comprised of many inspirational mini-posters, followed by the story behind it, as told to Radio 2 by many persons of spiritual leanings, from many different religions and most of the countries of the world. It is a book to save for your rainy days, your hard times, and read yet again. Thank you all, for sharing this wonderful book with me.

I mean, it's nice enough, but it was never going to set the world on fire.

This is a collection of opinions. As far as I understand it, people were invited to be on the radio to give their opinion on something or other for a few minutes. The subjects are things like love, letting go, understanding and stuff like that. There's nothing on important things like vegan sausages, sunshine or the sex lives of Mongolian bees so it's kinda limited.

Most of the opinions are common sense and so nothing that you need to get out of bed for. A very few are unique and lovely but I can't remember any of those right now. Mostly it's just people relating stuff from their childhoods or a quote from some wise person or another.

Still, it's a niceish way to try to brighten up the world. Perhaps there should be more books like this and fewer books featuring serial killers and other monsters.

Read it if you like sugar in your tea.

I received this as a Goodreads giveaway. I found this book thought provoking and very easy to read. I picked it up and read a thought when I had a spare minute, or just before bed so that I had time to reflect. I really enjoyed reading this book and have recommended it. Thanks

Pause for Thought is a collection of reflections on modern life from the popular BBC Radio 2 broadcast. Pause for Thought started out on the much loved Terry Wogan Show, but is now broadcast on the Chris Evans Show and the Vanessa Feltz Show, broadcasting on early morning weekdays.

The is a real gem of a book that really took me by surprise. My recollections of Pause for Thought was one of religious clichés. This is totally different and very refreshing taking it right into the 21st Century. It's an wonderful book to dip into now and again, to have by your side when you need a bit of encouragement. I love the posters or memes that accompany each 'thought' and can imagine sharing these with family and friends on line and off.

I also like that the books has contributions from a truly diverse collection of people including an ex pop-musician, comedians, TV stars, comedians, people of faith and those making a real difference in the world: Shazia Mirza, Googlebox vicar Kate Bottley, ex-Communard Richard Coles, Joanna Jepson and Pam Rhodes.

I totally agree with the publisher that the book is a beautiful collection of thoughts that have made me pause and truly appreciate life and the world around me.

I'll definitely be recommending this to friends and family and maybe giving some as Christmas gifts this year.

I don't think this would be suitable as group read as it's quite a short book.

Thanks to The Nudge and Watkins Publishing for the copy.

I read this in one night, its gorgeously designed inside and is very spiritual and makes you think. More of a coffee table book but I got it for free to review and I'm glad I did, enjoyed it a lot.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway

I was particularly pleased to win this book as one of the favourite parts of breakfast radio for as long as I can remember is the section in which you get to hear how other people view the world, in terms of their physical, metaphysical and spiritual beliefs.

Always sincere, thought-provoking and well-intentioned, not every piece will chime with every reader, but I thought this was a good cross-sectional representation of thoughts expressed by different people with differing beliefs.

I enjoyed it
