Stetina's "Speed Mechanics" book is solid. There are several exercises designed to help the beginning/intermediate guitarist increase the speed and accuracy of their playing. It may seem like a "heavy metal" type book, but really, the information is useful to all rock guitarists.

I'm still working on left hand mechanics. After a few weeks I noticed major improvement. Many proppers to the author.

Of all the guitar books I've read & worked through, this one has had the longest lasting impact on my playing.
I worked through this book when I was a teenager trying to play speed metal and Yngwie. Did all of the exercises religiously for months.
It was rough. But by the time I was done... suddenly, I was good at guitar. Not just good, but better than all of my friends. They all asked me how I got so fast. And I pointed them to this book... no one else finished it.
Which brings me to my second point. At least for me at the time, the exercises in this book were **hard**. 10/10 on a scale of 1 --> 10. It's been a long time since I've picked this up again and leafed through it (lost to time), so it's highly likely that memory is incorrect. And these exercises really aren't that crazy.
But that's the feeling I get when I think about it, these days, many years later. Tough book, but transformative if you work through and put in the effort. Few other books (of any genre) have made such an impression on me. Would recommend.

Never 'finish' reading this book as such - there's years worth of excellent material to hone your skills & be applied to your playing. Sort of a 'practice manual', in that it gives you a lot of great exercises but also teaches you HOW to practice - take the ideas & principles within & apply them to building your own routine alongside the ones contained in the book. Hard work, but invaluable for anyone looking to up their game on the electric guitar.

Troy is the teacher i always wanted and now I have!!! Great exercises, the text on how to perform some of them (the advice with the mirror <3, how to place fingers ) gives even more precision on the execution in comparison with the typical 'put your finger or your pick wherever you want' kind of advices. Almost 30 years later after it's been written, remains a monument. Thanks Troy

Great book for speed will definitely read again! Or a bunch of times

This one is good but it covers most of the usual speed playing techniques. It is great for improving your precision and speed on the instrument, but if you want to branch out to more unusual playing methods, you will need to get the book How to Become a Guitar Player from Hell, which contains a lot of techniques this one leaves out, such as arpeggios, finger tapping, muted harmonics, exotic scales and chords, playing "outside", and more. How to Become a Guitar Player from Hell also contains never before published methods such as the "wah-wham" technique, unorthodox tremolo bar manipulations, and radical outside-the-box thinking exercises. Google the title to find out more about that book
