I love how Rojas's paintings in this book look like abstract collages. Moving away from her more folky Quaker-ish images, Plain Black delivers a steadily breathtaking array of geometrically sharp and sure-handed color wonders. There were some pages where I gasped. Rojas (aka musician Peggy Honeywell) has a really interesting history. Check out this New York Times profile on her and her husband, Barry McGee, from 2015.
