Life has settled back into some semblance of normal for Graciela Harper and her friends in Heron Creek. Of course for Gracie, that means a new ghost knocking on her door asking for favors.
When she sees the spirit of a teenage girl who has been missing for over a year, Gracie knows she has to help, even if she would rather spend all day in bed with the mayor instead. As she navigates the emotional waters surrounding the girl's family, friends, and first love--who also happens to be one of Leo Boone's estranged brothers--Gracie starts to suspect that Ellen Hargrove didn't disappear of her own free will.
Secrets run deep in all families, a fact that Gracie knows based on her own struggle to come to terms with Detective Travis's connection to her mother. As she uncovers more of the ghosts's hidden past, though, two things become clear: there is someone out there who doesn’t want Gracie to find out the truth, and the ghost of Ellen Hargrove isn't going away until she does just that.
Join Graciela Harper and the cast of characters in Heron Creek as they move on from the curses surrounding Drayton Hall and face new challenges--and offer up plenty of their own.
I've been publishing New Adult romance novels for a little over a year, starting with Broken at Love and continuing with the rest of the Whitman University series. I adore telling stories, discovering the little reasons people fall in love, and uncovering hidden truths in the world around us – past and present.
In my spare time I cuddle my two dogs, pretend to enjoy exercising so that I can eat as much Chipotle as I want, and harbor a deep and abiding hope that Zac Efron likes older women. I loves reading, of course, along with movies, traveling, and Irish whiskey.
I'm hard at work, ALWAYS, and hope to bring you more Whitman University antics and at least one more Lowcountry ghost tale before the end of the year.

Not Quite Mine is out today! I hope that you enjoy the continuation of Gracie's life in Heron Creek - if you haven't started the series, the first one (Not Quite Dead) is free!
Before I opened this novel, I was down on my reading luck : 5 books I'd opened, 5 books I'd put down. I didn't know what to do when of course, I thought of Lyla Payne ! Not one of her books ever let me down, I adore that series, I was sure I would love that one. Every time I get back to Heron Creek, it feels like I'm actually there, keeping up with dear friends in a place that I love, learning about their new troubles ('cause believe me, you never get bored there !) and biting my nails until I find out how they can deal with them. This one was a little quieter than usual, but after Mama Lottie, they truly deserved to breathe some ! And I was so happy with Not quite mine that I jumped straight into Not quite alive :) Didn't regret it !
Graciela Harper stopped the curse that has threatened to destroy her family for hundreds of years!...now what?
If you thought Gracie's adventures reached their pinnacle already, you would be sorely mistaken. It's sometimes hard for readers to come back to their beloved book bffs when it seems their stories are over. All the questions that run through our minds such as "is this new book going to ruin it?" "Should I just quit reading while the story is still good?" "Is this author just trying to milk more $$ out of me for a subpar epilogue?"....can be put to rest. I love the new angle on Gracie's family and how much more invested I am in the supporting characters. When I started the series I could firmly say I would keep reading for Gracie but now I love them all! I'm so glad Lyla decided to stick with it and keep entertaining us with Gracie's exploits and am excited to continue getting to live in Heron Creek for as long as Lyla wants to keep me there :)
Warning - there may be a tiny bit of a spoiler in this review so proceed at your own risk!
I very much enjoyed this entry in the series. Ongoing storylines continue to evolve while two new ones are neatly tied up. Oh, then there's the one that turned up late in the book and will likely affect a certain relationship deeply. I really hope I'm wrong but I think I might see heartbreak in Gracie's future. Love the series and am planning to pick up the next book soon. Enjoy!

This review reveals a major spoiler and itty bitty almost-spoilers, so ye be warned!
Not Quite Mine may be my favorite installment of the Low Country Mysteries so far! Things have settled down now that Mama Lottie is out of the way. I found the primary mystery to be heartbreaking. I felt SO BAD for Ellen and how things turned out for her. In life she was a lost soul and ended up that way in death. I broke down crying when she saw her son, and he was able to see her. That was SO well done! A little bit later I cried again when Trent met him for the first time.
I LOVED getting to meet one of the other Boone kids. I'm dying to know more about what happened with Trent, Leo, Lindsay, and their father. Trent is a wonderful guy and I hope to see him interacting more with the other Boones in future books. As for the B mystery, I was heartbroken for that ghost, too! Daria always seems a little out of her depth, so I'd love to see a day in her life solely from her perspective. Finally, of course Henry Woodward is still hanging around. It'll be a sad day when he moves on.
As for everyone else: Amelia seems to be doing better. Brick has grown on me more than ever, though he was largely out of the picture in this installment. I'm loving Leo more with every book that passes. I despise love triangles, but the series seems to be headed that way with Gracie, Beau, and Leo. Cade Walters is a new addition to the story, but I'm not sure if I trust him yet. Last, but not least, is the situation with Frank and Dylan Travis... I'm happy for Gracie. There's still more to discover between their dysfunctional trio, but the potential for a healthy familial relationship with Gracie and Dylan is wonderful!
Not Quite Mine was a satisfying read! There's not much I can find to criticize! I can't wait for the next book! *****5 STARS*****

Each and every time I pick up a Lowcountry mystery I feel like I’m visiting with friends and catching up on all that’s transpired while I’ve been away. Gracie, Beau, Amelia, Leo … all of the Heron Creek residents leave you feeling like you could visit South Carolina and walk right into their lives. I find myself chatting about them as if they are real people -- because they are -- to me.
Gracie gets back to the ghostly basics in Not Quite Mine when her newest impatient companion shows up on her front porch with expectations of help. When Gracie realizes why she vaguely recognizes her, she sets out to do what Gracie does best and give the ghost closure so she can move on. Between the mysterious ghost of a young girl and an angry ghost Daria’s requesting help with, Gracie has plenty of adventure to keep her busy despite Anne Bonny’s curse being lifted.
Of course it’s never quite as easy as Gracie would like, and she will have to rely on her friends--scratch that, her FAMILY--in order to fit the pieces of the newest puzzle together. I absolutely love the friendships turned family in this series. Despite seeking answers about her family origins, Gracie is surrounded by people who love her unconditionally and accept her unique ability without question.
As always, I love Gracie’s sarcasm, her spunk, her strength, and her insistence on doing what she feels is right. I loved this quote and couldn’t help but highlight it because it fits Gracie like a glove, “I like to know where the line is so I can get as close as possible.”
Thank you for continuing Gracie’s journey, Lyla! I’m already excited for the next!
After the whirlwind of events in Not Quite Right that wrapped up the curse storyline, I was pleasantly surprised to dive into a slightly less crazy installment of this series. Not Quite Mine follows Gracie and her motley crew through more ghostly encounters, family mysteries and introductions to some surprising and intriguing new faces. The more I read these books, the more I fall in love with each character, making me wish I lived in Heron Creek right alongside of them. We learn a little more about the Boone family in this book but there's still more to come. The dynamic between Gracie and Leo is fascinating and I can't help but wonder if that will change with the career decision Beau makes. Lyla knocks it out of the park again with Not Quite Mine and while I love them all, this one might be my favorite!
Every time it's like coming back home. Graciela Harper, ghost hunter extraordinaire, girlfriend of the Mayor, best friend to Millie, Mel, Will and Leo, kick ass historian and archivist oh and a bumbling klutz at the best of times...lol Life is looking good for Gracie, things have slowed down, her relationship with Beau is back on track, Millie and Mel are both getting closer to popping out their respective babies, Will is loving being a cop, Leo is moving on with his life after his brush with jail, he is dating and his friendship with Gracie is as solid as it's always been even if he would like it to be more. When the ghost of a young woman turns up on Gracie's porch asking for help life gets interesting again but the difference this time is Gracie realises she is not alone and it's OK to not only ask for help but to accept help when it's offered freely.
i couldn't believe it when i finished the last book to find out that Not Quite Mine would be released in such a short time. Gracie appears to be taking some downtime and looks like she and the Mayor are able to get past their differences and work on their relationship, this does come close to being on the rocks again but Gracie has started to lean on her friends a little more and not get into quite so much trouble. Saying that though she does however end up with a new ghost and only departed in the last year so this is close to home to some residents of the home town, I am really pleased that this series is going to continue as I love all the characters!
Another great addition to the Lowcountry Mysteries!! Now that Gracie has some down time from all the chaos that Mama Lottie brought with her, another ghost, one that hits close to home, engages her in a mystery that has her juggling her loyalty to Leo and her desire to help her ghosts. This books is a lot less stressful than the last few, but just as enjoyable! It is setting up a lot of questions that need to be answered, and adds some new questions to the mix. I cannot wait for the next one! C'mon September!
Gracie Harper has finally started to relax and settle back into life in Heron Creek. Of course, relaxation is cut short when another ghost appears. This ghost is different though, familiar. As Gracie starts her adventure with her new ghost, while also working on her quest for Henry, she finds herself deeper in the family tree of the Boones.

Another great read from Lyla Payne. 5 stars from me. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Gracie has such a warm place in my heart! This installment is just as wonderful as the rest of the series. The writing is crisp and intelligent and the story lines intertwine in surprising and enjoyable ways. The author has an incredible gift for presenting these stories in a thought-provoking way and making it so easy to emotionally invest in the characters. You won't regret keeping up with Heron Creek!
Oh my goodness! I know I keep saying I love this series, but really it just keeps getting better! I fall more in my love with Leo, each new novel. So much more I need to know there! I love the way Gracie solves a ghost mystery every book! Henry gave us a clue!!! If that isn't reason enough to read the book, I don't know what is! Lyla/Trisha keeps on you on toes the entire book!
Such a great series! I love the friendships that Graceila has in Heron Creek and the support those friends give her in all of her ghost adventures! Can't wait to read the next one in the series!
This book in the series was a little different than the other books. A nice change. The characters, their relationship to each other, and their dialogue with each other is fun. I find these stories intense and never disappoint.
This is a five star series all the way from book one to Not Quite Mine. I'm looking forward to reading about more paranormal investigations by some of my favorite characters.
Recommend all of the series leading up to this one, hope that there are a lot more to follow, everyone that starts the series will soon be sucked into it.
