Julia's coven has been at war with Roman's for generations. Now their love for each other may be the death of them both. An arranged marriage with a warlock from a new startup family of witches will finally cement the Fairweather coven’s reign over Savannah and thoroughly crush those pesky Blackwoods once and for all. And it’s up to Julia Fairweather to play the bride. That proves to be difficult, though, when there’s Roman Blackwood to think about. Julia has never felt a connection like she does with the smug warlock from her coven’s rival family. The heat, the passion—it has no place in a family feud that has stretched on for centuries, and yet, it’s undeniably there. Julia must move past the way she feels and follow through on what she needs to do for her family. But with Roman refusing to keep his distance, it’s more likely the two will embark on a heated adventure destined to destroy themselves and bring down the two greatest witch families Savannah has ever seen.
Well...this was something to read. I noticed a few minor mistakes coming on to the end of the book. I kind of had a hard time visualising the big fight and the aftermath was all so underwhelming. I think the part where Julia says the feud probably started because of stubbornness turned out to be true because it all ended with a whimper. There was really no discernable reason for the feud and the brother's death, was solely Roman's fault. That really annoyed me that he basically got people killed because he was trying to do what exactly? It's never explained; another thing not explained is the Crawley. All the emotional turmoil was rather pointless to me. Roman was right when he pointed out that they, he and Julia, could've just run away. The so-called feud that existed was pretty dormant from what I gathered and there was even mention of a treaty. As I said at the beginning, this was something to read and I read it.
Apparently I will be the one odd that didnt LOVE this. I think for the most part it was well written. I had 2 issues with it.
Small issue with not being able to BE THERE for the budding relationship when they first got together 18 months ago. Not a huge deal but I felt cheated in a small way.
My other issue was the main characters. There were awesome supporting characters in the book. Julia and Roman just rubbed me wrong. Roman...I lost all respect for his character at the beginning at the way he treated Julia when she came to his home. He used her as a sex toy pretty much. I get his anger and hurt over her leaving him and what happened. I really do get it. However, that didnt give him the right to use her like he did and supposedly he loved her and cared about her etc. Who does that? If he cared so much why would he do a thing like that? I mean seriously I'm betting she felt dirty after that. He didnt even let her well you know so why not just use his hand for self gratification? It was mean and crass and pretty well led me to beleive he didnt care as much as he says he did. That stunt showed me right there what kind of guy he was. I guess he felt that was a punishment for her leaving...kinda petty. Another thing was she hadn't been with anyone since Roman but he sure was sleeping around. Julia has her faults too. She was running away from what she did and not dealing. She was put on this pedestal at how powerful and strong she is. How confidant. I just didnt see it. She was allowing her family to dictate to her and what she was going to do now for the Coven. For someone as powerful as she was, totally naive! Especially with Cass and Paris. How did she not see that coming? I thought Paris was weird that he HAPPENED to come upon her in trouble. Please! Her mom constantly belittled her and was totally insulting and she just sat there and took it! Strong my ass, get a backbone woman! Dont get me wrong I understand doing family duty, but as much as her character was built up to be so strong and powerful she was very lacking. All the way to the end.
This was your basic Romeo and Juliet obviously with a twist. A lot loved the book. I didnt hate it but I didnt love it. Gotta like my characters a little bit and unfortunately these 2 I didnt.
Oh. My. God. I didn't want this book to end! From the minute you read of Julia and Roman's forbidden love, you will be hooked! I literally could not put this book down! Julia is part of a Coven of witches named the Fairweathers. For as long as can be remembered, there had been an ongoing feud between them and the Blackwood families. Julia meets and falls head over heals in love with Roman. The next in line to lead the Blackwoods. They both know that it just isn't possible for them to be together, but they just can't stay away from one another! The feud between the two families rages on through the entire story, always leaving you on the edge of your seat. Julia is supposed to marry another, to combine covens, but she still just can't stay away from Roman. And he can't stay away from her! Whether it is a forbidden love tale you are wanting, some awesome magick, a feud that never ends, or just an all together AMAZING read, this is the book to choose! If I could rate it 10 stars I would, because 5 is just not enough! I am so glad I chose to read it!
The characters are unlikable and the writing is drab and repetitive. The men came off as childish and bitchy. When the grandfather was introduced as head of the coven you would think he'd be a wise man, stern, but also caring. Wrong. All it took was 3 sentences for him to change his mind.
It was like: "You shall not pass!" Then the person says, "Oh, but you could just let me, because you love me." He then says, "Well, yeah, that's true. I guess you can go."
What? Okay, because that has grandfather of a coven written all over it.
My other problem was the love interest. I understand he was upset because she left him. I don't need to know 20 times that you are upset because of it and quite honestly he came off more like he was on his rag than upset.
I'm a sucker for a forbidden love romance and this one was great. A retelling of Romeo and Juliet, it focuses on Roman and Julia heirs of warring witch covens. The paranormal spin was fun and magical. The story was paced well and it was easy to get into. Both Julia and Roman were well rounded characters that I had no problem rooting for. I enjoyed the twists and turns the story took. There wasn't a dull moment. Full of fantasy, romance and action there wasn't much I didn't enjoy about this tale. I'd recommend this book to lovers for fantasy and forbidden sexy romances.
Contemporary Paranormal Romeo and Juliet, Erotica Style
I didn't much care for this one. Roman, Julia, The sleeping spell that was supposed to make her "look dead?" The life long feud?
I would have liked it better had Julia and Roman not been in love prior to the start, and I would have really enjoyed it better had sex not been used as a punishment.
The twitchy parts were pretty original, but the erotica kept me from enjoying the story. I lost interest and skipped to the end.
Overall, it was okay, but not something I would usually seek out.
I finished this book in one day. Once started, I had to continue reading through to the end. Julia and Roman, the star-crossed lovers, were a thoroughly mesmerizing couple that had me cheering for them until the end. The gypsy magic woven in the story was innovative and made for several surprising plot twists. There was also a fairy tale feel to this novel that kept my interest.
Roman and Julia represented the Romeo and Juliet of the Savannah witch world. Despite the cliche, this was a well crafted paranormal romance full of intrigue, magic, danger, and romance. I was quickly sucked into the pages as I discovered the characters and the motivations behind different parts of the plot. I really hope a sequel will come out soon. Five glittery stars!
Julia and Roman are from rival covens but they love each other. They maybe dated for a while...then Julia tried to kill herself and Roman went blind in one eye. What happened was never really explained (up to the point I read anyway) and it became extremely infuriating to read a book stemming from events that you're never told.
Was a real struggle to finish. The "adult" content was too explicit for my tastes, and seemingly gratuitous; it felt as if the authors were following a formula that said "throw in some sex every 100 pages". I just never became engaged with the story or characters.
There is so much wrong with this story! The authors can’t seem to get their own timeline correct. They refer to the breakup as happening “all those years ago” and “in the six hundred and three days since Julia breathed the same air as him” and “last summer” so I’m confused.
I’m also confused and irritated by the topographical errors in this book. The one family’s estate is near Abercorn Street but Julia goes to some cliffs right before an important coven meeting at her home. “That was the reason she went out to the cliffs in the first place.” What cliffs are these and where are they since they are close to Abercorn in downtown Savannah? This is the same place Roman “Pulled his car to a stop on the hill - the one overlooking the city - and crawled out onto the hood.” Savannah is barely above sea level and floods, there are marshes not hills or cliffs.
Oh and Roman (or Romance as one typo states) is a giant d-bag! So not worth any effort. “That was what men were supposed to do. They were supposed to crawl under the next woman who let them and convince themselves that the one they lost never mattered in the first place.” Wah! What a baby. Also this is how Roman thinks of himself; “He was Roman Blackwood. He was the badass warlock of Savannah. And even if he hadn’t been, he was still rich, sexy as hell, and better in bed than Egyptian cotton.” Gag! Seriously?!? What a special treat this dill hole is.
Then he practically rapes her using his magic to assist him in getting her clothes off and then decides not to let her finish. So he could punish her. So “he could be sure tonight wouldn’t be the last he saw of her.” Yep... total d-bag.
All of this before the fifth chapter! Which is as far as I could force myself to go because any more was going to make me toss my reader at the wall. This book made me mad at books in general and that is wrong.
PS. All witches are referred to as witches whether male or female. Warlock is not a term modern witches like these supposedly are would use. But perhaps this is an alternate universe with an alternate Savannah that has cliffs and hills? Nah.
Wow, this was one drama-packed adventure! That's not a bad thing either. While there was sooooo much tension and drama between the two leads, I never really felt it was forced or boring. Both Roman and Julia had serious issues to work out and I was engrossed in watching them go back and forth to fix their broken hearts. Roman was very broody and angry, but I loved watching him level out his maturity and deal with the return of the woman who broke his heart, Juila. Julia has a good heart and I was constantly rooting for her. The magic and society was pretty well written, but I wasn't really keen on the villains. The romance was intense and very steamy when they decided to get nasty. Definitely for readers who want a sexy, romantic read under the sun!
First let me state that I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I always leave an honest review. If I don't like a story, I contact the author first & then with as much tact as possible I let the new reader know why.
I enjoyed this story very much. I have read many books by Rebecca Hamilton & really enjoyed them. But this is the first time I've read Connor Kressley. Ms. Hamilton & Mr. Kressley make a wonderful team. This book was so good, I couldn't put it down. I read this story in one day because I got so wrapped up in everything that was going on. Julia & Roman are gr8 characters. So much love and garbage getting in the way, yet they perservered. I laughed, I cried, & I was anxious thru this story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up
Have to admit I was completely frustrated throughout most of this story - because both the main MCs - constantly wined and took no responsibility for their actions - they blamed others for the deaths of friends and loved ones instead of taking responsibility for their actions which brought them to this point.
Having said this - I felt then ending at least attempted to make up for some of that and brought this story to a satisfactory end.
This was a good read and if you like all things witchy then it might be a book for you.
I like the concept of the book Re neighbouring covens holding a easily broken truce before going to war. Throw in the bad seed and a couple twists you have a nice story. I worked out who was going to be the baddie early on 😉
The characters are likeable and I love the manor.
I have to admit to a little bit of skipping bits as there were some long winded bits. Contains graphic sexual content.
*I was gifted this book and will be giving an honest review* This is a definite modern witchy twist to the Romeo and Juliet tale, with the Fairweather and Blackwood covens being in a lifelong feud. Naturally they are forbidden to be together and naturally they are completely in love. I would have loved to read how their love story began and unfolded, from start to, blow up to, end. But just as the story line goes, you always want what you can’t have. I was drawn in from the very start of this book. I loved the banter between Julia and her mother during the Uber ride and would have loved to see more of the driver that Julia has and then Roman has later on. I’ve read a lot of reviews and there are a lot of people that felt as if Julia’s character was weak for running away, but I feel as if she wasn’t running away so much as finding herself, centering herself and growing as a person. She is however torn between what she wants and duty to her family, that was a struggle that I also understood and sympathized with. Although if we had been given the opportunity to start earlier in these characters lives than it would have easier to relate to her need to find herself, due to the pressure put on her by her family. Then there is Roman, he’s a dark and sexy character with complicated emotions. I for one LOVED his character, he stays true to himself the entire time and doesn’t make excuses for his behavior and he keeps pushing Julia and do the same. He was appropriately chastising, loving and sexually charged as he needed to be, and I loved every steamy second of it! I really did love the drama, deception, love, betrayal, fear, family bonds, twists and turns and magic this adventure had. You really can't help who you fall in love with and how it will change your life. This story really has it all, friends/family who can’t be trusted, secret plots, set ups, hostile take overs, magic spells, steamy sex scenes and a genuine heartfelt love story. I have always been a fan of Rebecca Hamilton, her writing and her as a person, she is a down to earth woman and mother and a creative and talented writer and artist. I was skeptical about reading something that was collaborated with another author, especially one I had never previously read but Conner Kressley and Rebecca Hamilton worked really well together, it’s obvious that they both really know how to write this genre and they meshed their work so well together that you could hardly tell it was written by two separate writers. They kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails and turning the pages so quickly that I finished the book in under just five hours.
THE BEST ROMEO & JULIETTE YET Wow fireballs are raining from the sky because I didn't want this to end. 1st & foremost this is a SPOILER FREE, HONEST REVIEW. With that being said, I sadly can't get into too much detail, but think of Romeo & Juliette as opposing Witch Covens, think of back stabbing family members and a butt load of magic. Fairwhethers vs Blackwoods. Julia is a Fairwhether , Roman is a Blackwood, their covens have been at war for lord only knows how long or why. Each of them have 1 family member that knows of their love for one another, and one of the two will use it against them, but which one and to what end? As the Fairwhethers try to gain power by an arranged marriage between one of their own & a powerful warlock from a Louisiana coven things become complicated and of course are never what they seem. Will true love prevail like in fairytales? Or will it kill one or both of the lovers, since this is no fairytale? Will the traitor gain the power they want, and if so what will become of all 3 of the convens that are now involved? So many questions that I won't answer; but, I highly recommend reading this amazing book. I will be the first to say that I did have trouble getting into this book, and there are some silly parts but the grunt of the book & the strong story line & fast paced action makes up for that and doesn't take away a star, i EASILY GIVE THIS 5 MAGICAL
A rollercoaster of emotions one of fear and love fear of what one will become and one of true destiny Julia fairweather is called home by Beethoven her grandfather is during and they want her to take the roll as head of the coven after an indecent that almost killed the man she loves Roman blackthore a warlocks from a coven That has been feuding with Julia's for a long time she finds out while she was away that Roman has gotten into dark magic after confronting him they have a fight on the way home she is attacked by twin warlocks who's temperament matches each others she is saved by a man named Paris the next day she wakes up her grandfather asked her to come to the dining room where she learns she is betrothed to the very same man who saved her the night before when Roman finds out he gets angry and almost dies he is saved by a gypsies who sends his conscious to find out his fate will Julia end up marrying r Paris or will she end up with Roman.to find out I strongly recommend that you read this book it worth every penny 5 gold stars received a copy from author for an honest review
Moon Coven by Conner Kressley. 4 out of 5 stars. An interesting story about two star crossed lovers, both from rival magical covens. Julia Fairweather and Roman Blackwood are both the heirs to two covens that have a bitter feud raging between them. Their problem? They are madly in love with each other. A love that their families would never allow! This was a bit slow to start with and it left me thinking that it was going to be written in different time lines. It was going to start in the present day and going to drift back to the past to explain some of the things that were being talked about, but it didn't turn out that way? With that said, I think a little more care could have been taken on the narration as to what's already gone on between these two lovers, it can lose you if you don't keep up with it, but my advice would be to not get disheartened by that and keep reading because it's actually a nice little story just waiting to be discovered. I would recommend this book to all those interested in Magic and Romance.
I am so sad it already ended. I loved the book from the first pages. Enchanting story, fast-pacing plot, surprising twists, tension, emotions raging in a maelstrom, devouring the reader and holding him/her firmly in place until the last sentence. When Julia comes back home after a year spent in Iowa. she has no idea what awaits her there. Coven wars, arranged marriage, fight with her beloved Roman, hurt and betrayal are only the top of an iceberg. Power-hungry witches, dark magic and love beyond reason make the book irresistible. What I appreciate the most, however, are the gorgeous, strong characters. I felt connected to both Roman and Julia from the beginning, hoping for their success in finding a way back to each other. I fought my own little fight for them, wishing to be able to join the battle and not sitting on my bed, fidgeting the pages as helpless observer. I truly recommend this book because there are only rare occassions when a story devours me completely - and this one did.
This book was so much more than I was expecting! There were so many twists and turns that I barely recognized it by the end of the book and it was so good. So richly written that the characters jump off the page at you and you feel like you are right there with them. This book had so many surprises I never saw coming, not all of them nice but in the end the story was much better for them. The romance in this book is the fairytale kind, the nobody else for them soulmates and forever kind that naturally has more obstacles than any other but in the end is so worth it. I am so glad I read this book as it is one of those great stories that leaves you with a smile but wanting more. I don't think that I have ever read anything by these authors before but you can be sure that I will be looking to read what else they have out now and in the future. If you haven't gotten the picture already, you need to read this book. It's just that good.
This ebook was sent to my kindle account from the author as a gift during a promotion during a giveaway. The authors asked that if you could post a review about the book but it was not expected from their gift.
The story line was well written with twists and turns in so many different directions to finally get to the who was behind everything. Looking back at the beginning of the story line it makes perfect sense that the person behind everything was the person but I have to say it was touch and go with who I thought was behind everything throughout the story. I should have seen who was behind everything but the pieces did not fit together until the end. I am glad that I took the time to read this story.
Conner and Rebecca thank you for the privilege of reading your story I can wait to see what happens next in the story line.
Paranormal story of witches and warlocks defying a tale as old as time- forbidden love. This modern day "Romeo and Juliet" with a twist is masterful and Kressley and Hamilton show readers once again in amazing form what a great co-authoring team they make. The covens of Blackwoods and Fairweathers are sworn enemies from unknown sins of past generations making the undeniable love connection between Roman and Julia one of secrets and threat of ultimate destruction, no matter the dooming price they may have to pay. But can their love be enough to save both covens from the greedy ruin threatened by someone close to Julia who wants to take ultimate power and destroy anyone who crosses that path? Can their love for one another be a blessing or a curse to the two covens that seem destined for eternal teetering of war? Excellent read and my new Kressley/Hamilton favorite!
Julia Fairweather's coven has been at war with Roman Blackwood's for generations. However love takes no notice of little things like that. To make things worse Julia's coven have decided to cement their domination over Roman's, she will have an arranged marriage to a warlock from another family.
Roman is determined to keep his distance and Julia is struggling to accept that she has to do her family duty and marry a stranger. Can they resist the pull between them, or will their families tear the area apart in their war?
I loved this book. I could see and hear everything in my mind as I was reading it. I found it addictive and ended up reading it faster and faster as I got nearer to the end of the book. Definitely a Romeo and Juliet but with a nicer ending.
This has been one of my most favorite books I've read. It mixes forlorn love, with fantasy, mystery, and fate. It starts with Julia returning home after high tailing it away from family issues from 18 months ago. I too had that happen, and it completely described all the feelings of returning to unresolved issues. She not only had to face her family, but the fiance that she just up and left. Her Grandfather, head of the coven, requested a family meeting calling her home. Power struggles within the witch world are coming to a head. Old family fueds are ignited. Can Julia really come home and leave like she plans? Read on for a great love adventure that is just enough hot, but not crude.
The heart wants what the heart wants and sometimes it goes against everyone and everything you have been taught to believe. Julia and Roman have a lot to deal with since their families are arc rivals. What happens when their clans are threatened and there is deception and plenty of it from the inner ranks. Between the twist and turns how do you know who to trust? A splendid plot and wonderful writing style makes this a must read and I highly recommend it to all who love magic and love.
**This is a review for an updated version of Moon Coven" the correct version of Moon Coven is now available in the collection**
I received this book as an ARC from the author. Upon the first page of the book I was hooked. Kressley and Hamilton have made an awesome book out of a story we all know. Paranormal and Romeo & Juliet style - Amazing. The writing is nothing less that what you would expect from these two amazing authors. The story keeps you hooked and waiting for more. I read this in one day because I could not put it down. I recommend this book to anyone. And the fact that it is a stand alone is even better!
This book was amazing! I didn't know what I was getting myself into. It sounded good. I have read books by Rebecca Hamilton before, and I absolutely love her books! She teams up with some awesome authors! Kressley seemed to have a similar feel, and I like trying out new authors. Bam, and I was Blown away! I don't want to give any spoilers, I don't like them. It's mainly due to the anticipation of what's to come. But be warned, this isn't a cute and sweet kind of love for young ones, it's a heated and go with the flow kind of love for mature readers. Fight for what you love, despite the odds!
