A collection of biographies of 11 prominent Christians, from Martin Luther to Martyn Lloyd-Jones, demonstrating in each case the reality of Christ's words: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Cor 12:9). What is wonderful about these biographies is that they are so wonderfully real - that is, Davies doesn't pretend these were stable or straightforward personalities, and nor does he attempt to explain or understand everything about them. Here, ministry success mingles with depression, obsessive perfectionism, paranoia, neuroticism, and much more beside. How glorious that Jesus would work through such people as they were - and such people as us too!
