I have owned this book since I was a teenager, or perhaps a student. In any case, I read it and completed the exercise of writing out my goals in 4 categories: short-term goals, long-term goals, dreams and - something else. I haven't read it for a while and I don't have it to hand. In any case, I folded up the piece of paper with my list and tucked it inside the book. Years later, maybe 10 or 15, I read it again and it was absolutely amazing to see how many of the things I had actually done. Very inspiring! For example, I had always wanted to learn to play the flute and a few years ago I started lessons. Dream fulfilled! Of course, it is also rather depressing to see that I still struggle with the same things I did way back then, even though I've read enough organising websites to know that leaving the ironing pile until it becomes a danger to life and limb is not the way to go about things. The road to ironing Bliss is to apply the salami technique. I seem to remember this book also advocates trying different techniques to overcome procrastination. Starting small to create some momentum is one of them. Small is beautiful. When I get home, I really must tackle that ironing pile!

This is probably the first self-help book I ever read and it's one of the best. In recent years I have gone back to it and try to read it every a year. I find it inspiring, practical and it helps focus my mind and reassess what I want to do and how I'm going to do it. The rest of the year I read organisational websites to inspire me, but this is the resource I keep coming back to.

Moving beyond wishful thinking. “Doing It Now” by Edwin C. Bliss. According to Franklin Covey, 35% of us who make New Year’s resolutions will break them by the end of January. Although this book will not completely eradicate our tendency to procrastinate it will go some way. Bliss is determined to help the reader beyond negative excuses to practical actions and after encouraging us to write down everything we have been putting off then takes us through a process where new habit can be established as we adjust our attitude, develop a game plan, overcome fear, raise our energy levels, get tough with ourselves, manage our time and environment, employ deliberate delay where we need to but continually motivate ourselves to do those things we know we need to do. There are loads of brilliant elements to this book. The best fro me were the practical techniques such as pigeon-holing, salami, journaling and going public. If you want to be able to look back on a 2019 as a year where you achieved more than any other previous year; having this book on your bedside cabinet and both reading and applying what you have learned will make all the difference.

The book was so effective, I managed to finish it in a few hours!

Jokes aside, though, I have had the problem of procrastination in the past. I still occasionally have my lapses, but it's great to know that what I'm currently doing with my life is maximizing my ability to do what I am passionate with in order that I can attain the success I seek. Back then I procrastinated because I didn't know what I wanted, but now at least I have clear personal goals that I myself believe in.

I haven't been a believer of lists, but my foci this year include:

1) Running a 50-minute 10 kilometer run; and,
2) Finishing the book I'm currently writing.

This book's been quite a helpful guide.

Been putting off writing a review of this for a while (haha). Really tries to be the Moby Dick on the topic of procrastination, but eventually all advice comes down to "do it now!"

Note: Forget about reading it. You must listen to the audiobook of this. It's got crazy good interstitial music and hilariously entertaining procrastinating monologue segments.
