The enemy of my enemy is my friend...or something along those lines. This isn't a HEA story, but it is one of interest and intrigue. I found myself falling into it and only felt like I was drop kicked with the switch in times. Naamah and his clan were driven from their homes only to come upon Maria's clan and do much the same. In the end, life proved to come full circle. Through it all Maria remained a warrioress, and Naamah couldn't see a life without her in it.

This story was also a different s

I give The Warrioress (An Heirloom Vampyres Novella, book 2) by J.D. Brown, 5 stars

This an absolutely wonderful addition to the series! I like many, loved the characters of Naamah and Maria, and this novella was just the perfect thing! It was hinted how they got together by a tragic incident, but that was all. Well, this was so intriguing and the author knew we needed to know more. Everyone loves this couple and to see the struggles they had in the past makes them that much more interesting. It

*Disclaimer: I received this book from the author for free. The following review is of my own words with no input from the author*.
I loved getting to see Maria and Naamah’s backstory. I love that this is a romance novella without it being submerged in straight sex from the beginning, but that it built up to a relationship that started out as enemies. It is so very easy to get lost in J.D.’s stories. They are well thought out and enterta
*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book* I did receive a copy of this book as an ARC but I obviously wanted to read it anyway as it seems I bought a copy as well.

I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to go back to the beginning to see how it all started. Before it was hard to understand Naamah & Maria and how they ended up in their situation. Now I really understand what these two have been through and endured. Most people would have broken but these two are strong when they stand together

A wonderful addition to the Ema Marx series. Getting to learn the back stories of characters we meet later in their lives is ever interesting and makes you love the characters that much more.

Helping a young boy in need led to a deeper relationship than either of the two would have imagined. Sometimes love does find a way to heal and rise above a bitter history of hurt. These two prove just that.

Loved reading this book!

Maria's story was absolutely amazing!!!! How Naamah and Maria found each other is beautiful and heart felt. Maria is a very strong willed woman that is so independent. Naamah loved his wife. Was wonderful to know more about the other main characters. Can't wait to read the next book. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. ...more

This book is a flashback that tells the story of Maria and Naamah. I love that this was done as a separate novella because, while the story goes a long long way to explaining the dynamics of their relationship and how that effects the present, it wouldn’t have been given the attention it truly deserves if squeezed into the books. And this story definitely needed to be told.

I really like these novellas. They fill in and expand on the characters that are in the periphery of the main novels. This is Maria's story. What a strong woman! I found myself liking her even more. Well done!

I recommend this book.

Loved Maria and her husband's background story. You see the warrior heritage that still comes into play in the other stories!

Maria and Naamah appear in the Ema Marx series; this is their story. Well written and well developed characters. Excitement and action throughout. Waiting for book 3!!

Ok I must admit I was sooooo excited to hear that J.D was writing this novella. Maria and Nammah are such a staple through out the Ema Marx series . They have been there since the beginning and we really never knew anything about them and their early years . In this novella we see the beginning of their love. Starting way back in 1100 BC and the tribes

On the run from a terrible enemy Naamah leads his tribe of warriors to find new land to settle their people. Unfortunately, his father's plan to peacefully merge with the people of that new land went terribly wrong, and now Naamah has to prove he isn't the same monster as the man who hunted him.

Excellent origin story! In this novella we jump way back in time to see how Maria and Naamah met, fought, and finally found love with each other.

Wow! I loved this! I usually find that the problem with prequels, or back stories, is that you generally know how things end up before you start reading. With this story, however, I spent most of my time trying to figure out how these two could possibly become a couple. Especially the devoted couple they seem to be in the other books in the series. As I got nearer to the end of the book I started to get worried that I was going to be bitterly disappointed with the author because I could only see ...more

Naamah met Maria the night his clan destroyed her life. Maria heard the sound of a battle when she saw a young boy enter the cave she was hiding in. Although she was told to stay hidden and not too make a sound, she couldn't let the boy be hurt, so she helped him to hide, not knowing he was one of the invaders. In the fight her father, the Alpha of her clan, was killed. As she was so young, her Uncle took the leadership of the clan away from her. When she came of age, her Uncle married her to th ...more

If you are to read the Ema Marx series I would recommend you read this one first as it explains the background to Naamah and Maria's first meeting and their subsequent trials in bringing together not only their respective tribes but also their gradual journey into their undying love. This novella both delights and terrifies, leaving you, at times, breathless wondering how they will resolve their differences and get to be the strong couple you meet in the 'Dark series'.

In reading the Ema Marx series, I knew Maria was special but I had no idea just how special she was. It was amazing for me to see the story between Maria and Naamah as Maria seemed like a simple side character but in reality has overcome so much. The Warrioress really helped me as the reader to understand the connection the characterd have and why they have made certain decisions in the Ema Marx series. Reading about Maria and Naamah fall in love was very intriguing and facsinating. I found myse ...more

I have read all of the released book in the Ema Marx series and this one gives us the background on Maria and Naamah's story. I enjoyed reading how they had met and then later re-connected without realizing that they were the same two children who had met in the caves. It was interesting to see how much Maria was willing to do to protect both her people and cousins from the threat brought in by Naamah and his people. I enjoyed watching them both evolve to become the familiar characters from othe ...more

The love story of Maria and Naamah.
We see how this power couple came to be. The unlikeliest of couples. Forced to marry to keep the peace between the vampyres and the wolves. Eventually their union became a great love for each other.
Ultimately hunted by Apollyon! Forced to work for the horrible King!!
I like the way the book describes the relationship between the two. The were not always the cute lovey dovey power couple. They sacrificed a lot to be together and a lot after too. To have surviv

Absolutely loved discovering the background to Maria and Naamah's story, from a very early, brief meeting, they next meet when Naamah inadvertently rescues Maria on her wedding day. Their relationship, understandably, didn't get off to a good start, but gradually trust and then love grew between the couple.
A great read, even for readers new to the series, having read all the books to date I enjoyed the insight into the characters of Maria and Naamah.

Very rarely in a true reader's life does a series come along that grabs your attention, your affection and you devotion. This series does that for me. I find the world intriguing and the vampires amazingly different from any I have read before. This book answers questions that came up in the first three books and gives background that answers so much for me. It was an important piece of the puzzle and one I was happy to read. The only issue I have with it was that it ended abruptly. ...more

I laughed, teared up and rooted for Maria from the beginning. The story of Maria and Neemah was a great read from beginning to end. To know the story of such great characters was an honor. I loved the spunky Maria through out her whole journey. Another exceptional story from J.D. Brown. For fans of Emma you really need to read this book as with all other of J.D.'s book here are two more strong and lovable characters. ...more

Although this is a short novella, it still took me a while to get into it. I got it a few weeks ago and had read the first few pages, but I just wasn't interested. I had a little downtime today, and started it before bed. Bad decision, because it's 1 in the morning and I have to get up in 5 hours.

Maria and Naamah are very interesting characters who seem to be a mix of background and foreground characters in the Ema Marx novels, and I'm glad the author decided to elaborate on their story.

JD's books are always outstanding and this one was no different. It was interesting, to say in the least, how Naamah and Maria's story began which provided background and support to the Ema Marx series. I'm anxious to see who JD chooses for her next novelette!!!! Editing was well done - only caught a very few number of minor typos. Nothing major! ...more

This is my favorite book so far in the Emma Marx series. You knew their love was deep from the other books but how that love came to be is so unlikely that you can't help but admire their fierce loyalty to each other. J D does such a wonderful job describing what Maria and Naamah are feeling you can't help but feel it too. It is the kind of love everyone hopes to find! ...more

I've often wondered what made Maria the way she is and now I know. I completely flabbergasted that she actually chose to stay with Naamah and love him after the pure hell he put her through. Despite all of the trials and tribulations in her life she managed to stay strong and driven. Great story. ...more

I liked this as well as I did all J.D Brown's other books in this Heirloom Vampyres Series. It brings more detail and insight to the characters, Naamah and Maria. I devoured the book and felt cheated when it ended! (Because I wanted to read more and for it to go on)
Can't wait for the next one!
