Eckankar: Ancient Wisdom for Today

Rate this book
"Eckankar is a religion for the individual--what many of us hoped religion would be. Its purpose is to help individuals find their own way back to God through direct personal experiences."

ECKANKAR--Ancient Wisdom for Today offers a compelling introduction to the ancient teachings of Eckankar. This book explores spiritual experiences to connect with people of all backgrounds. It contains surprising gems for those who consider themselves to be spiritual but not religious.

If you yearn for spiritual freedom and truth, this book presents easy-to-apply steps toward your goals. It shares vivid examples from Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of Eckankar, showing how to live a truly spiritual life in a material world.

The book presents a range of concepts popular in modern culture--karma, reincarnation, seeing an inner light, prophecy, near-death and out-of-body experiences. Eckankar shows how these spiritual experiences are relevant to everyday life. Past lives, dreams, and Soul Travel are more than intriguing ancient mysteries. They are the natural activity of Soul. Soul is the True Self, the inner, most sacred part of each person.

With a prove-it-to-yourself message to seekers, this book shows how Eckankar is a living religion. Real learning comes from your own experiences.

ECKANKAR--Ancient Wisdom for Today is refreshing, bold, and a timeless guide for today's spiritual adventurers!

Ekankar is a religion!
The thing that really gets me about this book is that, in the very beginning, it says that this book is not used to try and convert the reader to practice ECK, and instead it consisted of stories that helped people realize God was real. It did, indeed, have stories about people discovering god, however, when it wasn’t talking about those stories, it mainly talked about the studies of ECK, therefore I felt as though this book was trying to convert me, which is fine if I wanted to read a book to find a religion, but I honestly just thought it would have tips about how to become closer to God, but it wasn’t that at all, which is really disappointing considering that the book cover says exactly that.

My copy ends abruptly at Chapter 11. The 'How To Take the Next Step on Your Spiritual Journey' chapter is missing. That's the chapter Eckankar wants me to read the most. I'm not interested in studying this group further. Maybe if I study plagiarism I'll come back to Eckankar.

When my grandma stopped being able to read physical books because of her eyes, I was given her entire collection. Amongst her collection were a number of spiritual books about whatever, and I decided that I would try to read some of them to get at least a better understanding of other world views.

Are the ECKists a cult? Probably. I feel like you'd have to be in a cult to willingly call yourself an ECKist. Does this small book explain much about what they're about? Not a lot. A lot of stuff about dream interpretation, I guess, without actually explaining dream interpretation (the dream interpretation stuff makes a lot of sense, I guess. My grandma was very into dreams, especially prophetic ones).

Anyway, I didn't find anything objectionable in this, but I also didn't find anything of value. Maybe if I was willing to dive deeper into Eckankar, I could find some more information. That, or they'd just drag me into initiation after initiation promising me that the next one would for sure unlock the secret of the history for the low price of $99.99.

very interesting, like someone took my existential framework at 15 years old and turned it into an unfinished movement.
