W.T. (William Thomas) Quick, a native of Indiana, lives in the Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco. He is the author of twenty-eight novels, including the seminal cyberpunk cult hit DREAMS OF FLESH AND SAND (in which he invented The Matrix), the best-selling prehistoric thriller THE LAST MAMMOTH, a series of six novels entitled QUEST FOR TOMORROW co-authored with William Shatner, dozens of shorter works of fiction, and several screenplays for film and television.

Quick also writes under the pseudonyms QUENTIN THOMAS, SEAN KIERNAN, AND MARGARET ALLAN

This was the only novel published to tie in with the TV show "American Gothic", though it's obvious from the plot that it was hoped it would be the first of several. It takes place a few years before the start of the TV show, and deals with the rise of young Lucas Buck to occult power in the small town of Trinity that he controls. The book is very like the show, except that there are no nice characters that you can root for - everyone is either evil or stupid or both. As a result, it's a well-written book about people you can't like.

Trinity, 1972. El reverendo Christopher Buck se ve desafiado por su hijo Lucas, el cual parece luchar contra su dominio y el que ejerce sobre el pueblo con una cualidad sobrenatural. Pero Lucas no parece hacerlo precisamente por la mejor de las intenciones, sino para usar el poder a su antojo, y antes de desafiar a su padre ya ha empezado a elaborar una laboriosa red de manipulaciones y pactos para controlar a muchos de los ciudadanos del pueblo, simbólicamente situado a medio camino entre el purgatorio y el infierno.

"Family" es la única novela franquicia que salió vinculada a la magnífica serie de TV de gran calidad pero escaso recorrido "American Gothic" (en España fue llamada "La mirada del mal" en TVE y "América Oculta" en Calle 13), y es una pena, porque W. T. Quick hizo un buen trabajo adaptando al medio la idiosincrasia del programa y aprovechando sus posibilidades -se "siente" como un episodio precuela de la serie, imposible de rodar debido a las edades de los personajes- y dado que su vida catódica se hizo muy corta hubiera estado bien seguirla de manera novelada. En cualquier caso, una buena adición para el fan, que no verá revelado muchos de los misterios de la serie pero tendrá nuevas herramientas para especular sobre ellos.

Loved the TV Show which was on in the 90’s I think. This is a prequel to that about who the characters were in younger days. If you haven’t seen the show it probably won’t mean a lot. Lucas Buck nice guy? Or a bit of a devil😉
