To her, every death matters. And she won’t stop until the scales of justice are balanced.

No matter how hard she tries, Homicide Detective Adila Cooper can’t outrun her past. Buried in her work, she soon finds herself pulled into a killer’s world that she’s never experienced before. "Looks like we've found out screamer."
Detective Adila Cooper has been a cop for 21 years and is reluctant to have the rooky partnered with her. She wasn't popular since ratting out her previous one. A girl is brought in, bruised and battered, probably raped: she'd been on the missing list for several days. Too many homicides in Baltimore. Like all of James Hunt's stories, the reader is thrown straight into this one, grabbing, then holding, attention, action packed and intriguing.
The narration by Mikela Drew is well modulated, her performance infusing a sense of desperation to the text, heightening the reading experience. However, this story is incomplete. More an ongoing serial than a series of novellas. There is no satisfactory ending to this otherwise riveting read.

The story is the start to a box set I bought via Amazon.
The narrator is fantastic. As for the story. It is the start and hopefully will get better.
However the plot is rather thin. The character development for Adila is fine and I hope the rest of the characters will fill out in the coming books.

As for the setting and the pace. The setting is standard United States town. The pace is not too bad but I am sooooo over the alcoholic type of detective stereotype as well as the fact that no body likes Adila but almost all shows her a huge amount of respect. How does that work.

This book reads and listens as if it was written. The author fails to place the reader into the heart of action.

Death Notes is a kidnapping/murder mystery. This book is a good start to the series. My first book by James Hunt and I liked it. It was short and easy. I know that i'll be finishing this series, Its intriguing and entertaining. It's a good filler if your trying to finish a reading challenge by the end of the year.

Both the author and narrator are new to me and I can say that I will be looking for more by both, especially the rest of the series. The narration worked well with the story.

This was a different take on the standard police procedural, had the usual issues with the lead detective but was handled well.

The writing style in well done and quickly pulls you into the book. The very bad part, it stops right at a cliff hanger, like right in the middle of the book!!! I am so glad that I have the 2nd book for free.

This book was not as good as the first three that I read by James front. Also I didn’t like the narrator. However, James Hunt, in my book, still is an excellent writer.

I would rate this so much higher but there’s no way to get the next book in the series except on audible which I refuse so I guess I’ll never know what happened 🤷🏻‍♀️

The beginning reads like a high school descriptive writing assignment. While it gets a little better I rolled my eyes far too many times

Ohhhh

Oh shucks to short but I knew there'd be more! Yay I loved it and I got to see in my mine what Cooper was like in my head. I love to read books where I can visualise the people in the story and this was great and of course I gotta have more especially since Cooperstown sister is missing, getting strange now with who the killer is and i like Hart too!

This book was a freebie from amazon and I'm very glad that I read this book because the plot was really good. I was hooked from the very beginning. The characters were complex and I can't wait to read the next book, I need to know what will happen next.
