A kiss to last a lifetime

Aiden Gallagher was only five years old when he appeared in a photograph on the Kissing Bridge. The town of Darling, Vermont, has used Aiden’s image on the famed bridge—local legend has it that a kiss there results in everlasting love—as part of its tourism campaign. Now, twenty years later, Aiden is asked to recreate the moment with the woman he o

Somebody Like You brought me pretty much all I could want from a romantic read and, with a wonderful small town vibe in a beautiful setting, is a promising start to the Darling, VT series.

"You have a thing for gingers. And you have to admit, I grew up kinda good."

With an engaging writing style, Donna Alward introduces us to the endearing residents who will feature throughout the series. First up is Darling's town cop, Aiden and divorcee and returning resident, Laurel, who grew up together a

Somebody Like You; the first book in Donna Alward’s new series take the reader to the town and residents of Darling, Vermont.

I really enjoyed the second-chance romance between Laurel and Aiden, both of them have grown and changed in the nine years that she has been away from town, that her return brings to the fore feelings that both of them had thought were long extinguished, but while one of them tentatively embraces those re-emerging feelin

Somebody Like You was a very enjoyable and heartwarming second chance love story.

Laurel and Aiden were likable, relatable and entertaining characters. From the first few pages I knew these two still had strong feelings for each other and it wasn't going to be easy to put the past behind them to love unconditionally without the fear of being hurt again.

Author Donna Alward has given us a well written, heartfelt second chance love story with characters that will bring out all the feels. Ov

I have a new romance author! I'd read about Ms. Alward's books on some of the blogs I follow and they sounded appealing so when the chance to read this book, the first in a new series, came up, I said yes. I'm glad I did. I was caught from the first chapter and didn't want to put the story down. Alward's writing was engaging, warm, and straight-forward, it lured me in.

"Somebody Like You" is a second chance and a small town romance. We get to see both the good and the bad of small town

I am such a sucker for small town romances and this book by Ms. Alward hit all the right notes for me. I enjoyed the journey that the two main characters (Laurel Stone and Aiden Gallagher) went through to get their HEA in the end.

Laurel and Aiden have a history. Aiden has always had a thing for Laurel but after making a bad decision in regards to her when they were in high school, something Laurel could not forgive, they both moved on with their lives. That is until Laurel moved back to her hom

I’m probably the last person on earth you want to start anything with. But Laurel? What just happened was just about perfect. You’re just about perfect. And I’m gonna go now before I have the chance to mess anything up.

Tell that to the teenaged girls who came in last night. They thought it was very cool to have all-natural, vegan, free trade, ecologically responsible food. So cool that they posted all sorts of pictures of it on their phones while wearing clothes that

Rosalie's review:

Laurel Stone has recently returned to her home of Darling, Vermont after a rather nasty (and interesting) divorce. Wanting to settle down and grow roots exactly where she grew up was exactly what she has always wanted to do. And she is in charge of her own destiny, so that's EXACTLY what she is going to do.

Aiden Gallagher is a police officer, and kinda high school sweetheart of Laurel, in quiet Darling. Having had a mishap in high school through a bet with Laurel has led to many

A quick and easy romance read with a unique plot foundation.

Laurel has returned to Darling, VT, following a devastating revelation and divorce and has opened a nursery. After a horrific act of vandalism, she reencounters Aiden, a man with whom she has a significant history, not the least being of the two of them kissing on the town's famous Kissing Bridge at age 5. Asked to recreate the photo twenty years down the road, and Laurel and Aiden must come to terms with their painful past and look fo

This is the first book I have ever read by Donna Alward and I have to say it featured one of the most romantic endings I have ever read! I absolutely loved the way the relationship with Laurel and Aiden developed.
Laurel is returning home after her the collapse of her marriage and wants nothing more to move on with her life. However, when she opens a new business in town, vandals strike forcing her to deal with her teenage crush, Aiden. She's still not ready to forgive Aiden for high school heart

My favourite quotes from this story:

'Sometimes the body remembered what the heart would rather forget.'

'Laurel wore her heart on her sleeve. It had been that way in high school, the other morning when she'd barely held back tears after the store had been robbed, and moments ago when she'd spoken about her husband ...'

'It's time I stopped caring about stupid stuff and focused on being happy.'

After her divorce, Laurel Stone moved from the city back to her small, neighbourly, peaceful hom

Donna Alward is a new author for me. I've seen her books before and thought about reading them but never took the time to do so. I'm not really sure why? I think it had to do with the fact that I thought they wouldn't be the type of books that I would like.

I couldn't have been more wrong!

I really enjoyed Somebody Like You. I found it very easy to read and well-written. I also loved her characters. Somebody Like Yo

After the pretty crappy week I have had, Somebody Like You was just the thing I needed to cheer things up a little bit.

Aiden and Laurel's story is sweet, adorable second chance at love story. They have a history since early childhood and now as adults they are thrown back in each other's lives.

I love the snark and bite, especially from Laurel. I can hold a grudge with the best of them, but wowee Laurel is the master!

I am not going to lie, Laurel did

This was a clean romance read. I enjoyed this second chance romance between Aidan and Laurel. I warmed up to Aidan right away. I liked that he wasn't afraid to pursue Laurel, even when she was trying to put distance between them. That slow build up between them created that extra connection I like to see in romances. The chemistry was there but it wasn't the only thing between them.

Laurel is someone burned by love and is not looking to try her luck at it again. When Aidan comes back i

Laurel Stone and Aiden Gallagher have a lot of history, some of it good, some of it not so good. First as children in a picture that has become the iconic representation of the town of Darling, Vermont; then as high school friends and later enemies. Both have also gotten a few life experiences under the belts. For Lauren, having her marriage end in a tabloid-style way and having to return home was not part of her plans, but she's making the best of her situation and trying to deal with her emoti ...more

Laurel is back in her hometown, Darling. She's the proud owner of the Ladybug Garden Center and she has a nice and cozy house. She used to be an accountant, but after being betrayed by her now ex-husband, who also was her colleague, Laurel needed a fresh start. She's quite famous in Darling because of a photograph. She and her childhood friend Aiden were captured when they gave each other a sweet kiss on Darling's well-known Kissing Bridge when they were five years old. Unfortunately their frien ...more

FINAL DECISION:  A book with a wonderful sense of heart, I absolutely loved this one.  Wholesome and sweet with just enough humor and angst to keep the story exciting, my first Donna Alward novel made me immediately preorder the rest of the series so that I can find out the fates of the other characters.

Laurel Stone and Aiden Gallagher first kissed when they were just kids then dated in high school but when Laurel found out the reason behind them dating it ended badly and they became enemies of sorts. The first in a new series of small town romance, Somebody Like You, was just what I was expecting, a sweet and sexy second chance romance.

Laurel Stone is back in her hometown after becoming divorced when her husband revealed he was gay and in love with a man. Feeling that she has been made a fool of again, the first time being when she was a teenager and by the local heart throb, Aiden Gallagher, Laurel retreats to her new home and business. Hiding her feelings by hard work at her garden centre

First, a confession. I cry at weddings (even my own, so many years ago). So, if there happens to be a wedding or two in this book, I may or may not have cried.
Laurel has returned to her hometown of Darling, VT to reopen the town nursery (plant kind, not child kind) after a devastating split with her husband Dan and then a divorce. Dan came out as gay. Laurel could have probably adjusted to that and wished him well but he did an unforgiveable thing to her. He admitted that he had been cheating on

Loved this!! This is the first book in a new series from Donna Alward and it was fantastic. A great second chance story as high school sweethearts are reunited many years later only to find that spark between them is still there and flaring to life. Laurel and Aiden are great together and it was fun to read how their relationship grew throughout the story. It's a nice slow build love story with little angst and lots of small town meddling. The very descriptive writing painted a beautiful picture ...more

For the most part this was an enjoyable read, however toward the end it did tip the scales a bit into cheesy territory. The H/H are sort of high school sweethearts who broke up before they ever really began due to a misunderstanding and misguided youth. Laurel moves back into town after her divorce and runs into some problems, and police officer Aiden is there to save the day. First of all, I love a police officer hero. However, I felt Aiden was a little passive and maybe too understanding. Or p ...more
Very good second chance story. When they were five years old, Laurel and Aiden were photographed kissing on the legendary Kissing Bridge. When they were in high school, their brief romance ended when Aiden made a stupid mistake, hurting and humiliating Laurel, which led to some humiliation for Aiden. The town uses the photograph to promote its tourism, and someone has come up with the idea to recreate the photo. Aiden is willing, but Laurel is much harder to convince. Laurel returned to Darling ...more

Ugh... So I wasn't entirely sold and I felt myself yawning a bit with this romance. It's interesting that the author makes the main characters share history when they were five and they innocently kissed on the bridge. But I felt Darling (the town) had to be so boring to focus so much on that remarkable moment and blowing it up into some tourist attraction. It's so dull that even the teens act out to make their town seem intriguing.

What irked me the most of course is Laurel. Goodness! Gosh! Heck

Laurel Stone has come home to small town Darling, VT, after a failed marriage that still haunts her due to her ex's determination to "remain friends." No one gets a chance to forget that Laurel's husband left her for another man.

Leaving accounting behind her, she has bought the town's defunct garden center and reopened it as the Ladybug Garden Center. She's enjoying it more than she ever did accounting, at least until the morning she comes in and finds it vandalized and the cash register "float"
