High school sucks. It doesn’t matter who you ask; jock, cheerleader, computer nerd, or band geek, they will all say the same thing: It’s a nightmare. But Casey is still wondering how she got the short end of the stick. Just a Sophomore at the prestigious Luthos Academy for Magical Beings, Casey already knows more about heartache and fear than any almost-sixteen-year-old sh ...more

WHY AM I SO BAD AT LEAVING REVIEWS?

I literally read this and only this book last month. Really interesting start to a supernatural series. E. M. is great at making the reader feel for a character. I really related to the main MC. Especially with the bullying scenes. Reminded me of my time at school. What I loved was the amount of compassion the author had when writing the scenes and dealing with it.

Moral of this story? FRIENDS ARE IMPORTANT.

This book was kindly given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

First of all, high five for that blurb! Finally, a blurb that gives enough information about the tone of the book, but not too much that we already know everything that is going on. I've found good blurbs to be really scarce lately. The blurb immediately attracted me to the book, Magical school, check; ancient prophecy check; unfathomable evil, check!

Casey, is our main protagonist and the book is in first person. We

It was nice to come back to the world of paranormal after being away for quite some time. Evading the Dark by E.M. Rinaldi is the start of a new series, the Cross Chronicles, where witches are top notch at their school for magical beings. This story was different in a way I haven't come across before which made the read that much more refreshing and enjoyable.

I love that even though this is just book one, I never felt overwhelmed with learning

Okay, so I'm going to admit that I do have a slight problem reading ebooks. I don't know about anyone else out there, but for some reason, ebooks often detract from my reading experience. They take me a lot longer to read and I often get distracted. Reading a book on my laptop or iPad just doesn't feel the same as reading a physical book -- I especially miss the flipping of pages, the fresh smell of paper, and just holding the story in my hands. Then again, it could just be my vehement disdain f ...more

What a story!! I am so honored to be one of the first people to lay eyes on this wonderful book! Right off the bat your heart is attached to Casey and the sad situation she finds herself in. Her mother and only friend are ripped from her life in a devastating way, and life only gets more turbulent from there. Now living at a school for magics with Eli, her mother’s friend who took her in, but feeling like she doesn’t belong. The kids are cruel, I mean, I wish I could get my hands on Tony!!! But ...more

Evading the Dark takes us to a world where witches, vampires, fae, and shifters remain in secret. Their progeny are sent to hidden schools for the talented beings throughout the world. Casey, an orphaned child of notorious witch Carina, is taken into the Luthos Academy under the guise of her Guardian Eli in order to grow in her powers. The downside – Casey does not have any powers.

The witches at Luthos are held at an extremely high standard. Each one is drawn to one of the four elements (fire, w

It's one of those stories I immediately fell in. I was hooked from reading the synopsis, I mean school for supernaturals, hidden away from the worlds and all kinds of thing keep on happening. There have different supernaturals coexisting, shapeshifters, Fae and witches, and then there is Casey. She is technically a witch, but with no powers of her own. She gets picked on, bullied from classmates and teachers alike. I LOVE the way she takes it, she fight back-hard.

3-3.5 Stars

This was the authors debut novel and I was very impressed with the way the author really pulled it all together as the story progressed. I fell in love with the fact that this story has so much potentional. It took me a little while to connect with the characters and the storyline being that the beginning was not as cohesive as I would have liked. Towards the middle of the book I was really starting to connect with the characters and truly enjoy the world the author created. So, I wa

4.5 stars!

I have to be honest and start by saying that I hadn't heard of this book until the author approached me and asked me if I'd like to review an ARC of a new version! I said yes because this book sounded interesting and I love the cover! I started this book after I had finished my current read, and after reading, I can say that I enjoyed it! It did take me a few chapters to get into the plot, but once I did, I found myself wanting to read on to find out what was going to happen next! It a

After reading the blurb, I grabbed this one up and hoped it wouldn't be too cliche so that I could love it. And that's exactly what happened.

Casey sits at the bottom of the social list at her school thanks to her being of mage blood but without a drop of magic in her. She's broken, and there's especially one boy who's determined to make it painfully clear how terribly she fits in. Luckily, she has one ever loyal friend. However, her world isn't safe. There are attacks on the school, and one ends

The cover caught my eye from the start, but the blurb totally sucked me in. A girl with no known magical abilities attending a school full of magical beings, color me intrigued. I had to read it. And believe me when I say, this book did not disappoint.

Orphaned at a young age, Casey is raised by a friend of her mothers at the academy in which she attends. There she’s being trained to become a future guardian despite being the outcast. And even though she doesn’t display any magical qualities, th

This book was really good! Casey Cross is a witch with no powers at a school full of supernaturals who hate her. She is beat on, ridiculed, tortured, and more. And yet, she keeps going. Witches are the first, last, and only line of defense against the vampires and Casey is in training to be a Guardian. But can she really be a Guardian when she has no power? This book tells you of her strength and perseverance, but mostly her strong-willed determination not to let anyone keep her down. I finished ...more

First off, that cover is a major eye catcher, I just love it so much!! Secondly, what lays inside is even more amazing!!

From the first page I was sucked in, I found myself unable to put the book down.

With a compelling storyline, lovable characters, laugh out loud moments and an ending that'll leave you wanting more, this story is a must read. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and have already one-clicked book 2, Hiding Till Dawn, which after that ending I was so glad I didn't have to wait

I loved this book!! I thought the plot was amazing, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I love all the characters, Casey especially. She is a great independent woman and I love how we see her grow throughout the story. I love the mystery surrounding her background and learning bits and pieces about her which feed the plot of the story.

Can Casey find out where she fits in her world? And after learning of a prophecy, she may just be the person who saves the world.

I LOVED the cover and was so excited to be able to read it. I fell in love with Casey immediately, and the other characters were built so well it was easy to connect with them also.
I thought this was going to be kind of a light read, from how it started off, but OH NO! There is a lot of wonderfully dark elements. I love what the author did with the villains in this story and cannot wait to read more from her!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has magic, supernatural characters and a B.A. main character who just wants to fit in. Casey is a witch who doesn't have any powers and has had to grow up an orphan. She constantly has to fight not only her peers but others who seek to harm her. And now there is a prophecy. Read this book to find out what it all means!

When I was given the opportunity to read “Evading the Dark”, I didn’t hesitate a second, I love finding books of, to me, unknown authors. And it was a good thing I did. So, I'm sending a big, big thank you to the author for letting me read this book. That said, I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Right from the beginning I wanted to help Casey, with the loss of her mother, getting into her powers and with this obnoxious boy, Tony. I wanted

Second time around was even better. I love this series!

Evading the Dark is the debut novel from E.M. Rinaldi and let me tell ya SHE NAILED IT! Relatable and defined characters. A fantastic storyline. It’s a home run. She ensnared me with the Prologue. From page one I was hooked as my mind searched for clues to Casey’s past.

Speaking of Casey… Two words. Bad. Ass, I love her. Her snarkiness. Her combat skills. Her witty inner monologue. I just adore her.

Now let’s talk cliff hangers. E.M. Rinaldi

Evading the Dark.
By E.M Rinaldi.

( Source: I was provided with a copy of Evading the Dark directly from the Author. In exchange for my opinion and honest review. )

Casey's high school life is barely tolerable at Luthos Academy For Magical Beings. Casey spends her life wondering how she has been dealt with such a bad hand in life. Already living with more heartache and fear than any sixteen years old should have to deal with. Orphaned and raised by the Academy, Casey spends her life training hard t

4.5 rating.

Woooow.well this was a fun read! I love boarding schools and magic so getting an academy full of fae, shifters and witches wasn't hard to love. I appreciate the world this author put together, the school's chains throughout the world, their war against the mysterious and missing vampires, and Casey was pretty cool. She's a witch from a powerful family with no magic to show for it. Everyone hates her, and while

Evading the Dark is the debut novel of E.M. Rinaldi and was released as an eBook. This was the first book I read on a Kindle and I’m quite glad a picked such a good first book. That being said, Rinaldi tried a little too hard to be poetic at the beginning of this book and it stilted the flow of the story for the first few chapters. Eventually the author found their ground though and the writing, although still beautiful, became much less complicated. In relation to the characters, I found them q ...more

Evading the Dark by E. M. Rinaldi is book 1 in the Cross Chronicles and is the beginning of a new YA paranormal suspense series.
It reminded me heaps of Richelle Meads Vampire Academy and Claudia Grays Evernight series and fans of the those will love this.

I was engaged in this story from the very first page until the very last, and I'm still thinking about it. It has all the elements for a fantastic YA series; magic, intrigue, suspense, paranormal beings, romance. You will not be disappointed.

I have been eagerly awaiting this book. I started reading it tonight in ARC form, and I literally couldn't put it down until I finished it.
