Hori and Miyamura are now officially a couple, and everyone knows it. But not everything's coming up roses for Miyamura, who's worried that people are talking about Hori behind her back. When his anxiety about being Hori's boyfriend reaches fever pitch, Miyamura drastically changes his look, which changes everyone's opinion of him all at once...
MIYAMURA'S IKEMEN METER JUST WENT UP 1000000x BECAUSE OF HIS HAIRCUT! <3 Shuu's reaction to Miyamura is basically the same as mine xD He looks so different but short hair really suits him. It's cute seeing Hori become jealous with all the female attention Miyamura has been receiving. Kyosuke's reaction is funny as hell xD
"HEY, DWEEB, WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? HUNH?! WE'VE ALREADY GOT OURSELVES A SUCCESSOR AROUND HERE."
I'm actually loving this more than Ao Haru Ride and that's like my favourite manga ever. I'm Kou and Futaba but Hori and Miyamura are taking over the two of you. Their lives are so normal and still much more fun to read. I guess it's cuz in a way other's no unnecessary drama. Both of them are so in love with each other :D
What is this manga? XD It's been so long since I've read previous volumes that I forgot just how silly Horimiya could get.
It's ridiculous, but it's a realistic ridiculous, which makes a lot of the crazy even funnier than if it was just over the top. It plays with your expectations, and the punchline is just that much funnier when it wasn't at all what you were expecting.
Oh not really. Though we do get the couple finally getting a bit deeper into their relationship. Showing up together, wanting to be together, and a lot more of Hori's crazy-ass father which is a ton of fun. This one has plenty of good comedy bits, a cute bit about the leads not seeing each other for a while, and an interesting ending where I feel we're going to get deeper into the life of our main characters very soon.
But yeah another really solid volume. It's drama and love life, but if you like both, this is an easy read. A 4out of 5.
The relationships are getting crazier, as are Ishikawa's surreal dreams. Definitely laughed out loud at several points.
Total aside, just checking to see how different mangas handle it, this manga doesn't number every page, but it does label enough so that it's easy to figure out which page is what, which I think aligns with what I've seen with other manga.
Horimiya Vol. 5 was another delightful addition to the Horimiya series.
Hori and Miyamura are now officially dating and everyone has an opinion about it. Worried about how their relationship may affect Hori, Miyamura completely changes up his look. When everyone gets a look at the new Miyamura, their opinion of him begins to change.
This series continues to be a ton of fun and I enjoyed this volume just as much as the first four. The art style of this manga is one of my favorites and I love the level of detail the illustrator includes. Hori and Miyamura began dating at the end of the previous volume so this volume continues to explore their romantic relationship. I really enjoy these two together as they're so sweet with each other. Due to how different the pair are, Miyamura decides to change up his look to varying reactions from his classmates. Miyamura's embarrassment over others finding him attractive was sweet. This volume introduces another new character, Sawada, who begins a friendship with Hori. I liked the little rivalry between her and Miyamura for Hori's attentions. The friendships in this series continue to be fantastic and I'm enjoying getting to see more of them develop.
Overall Horimiya Vol. 5 was a fun read and I'm looking forward to picking up the next volume soon. I highly recommend the Horimiya series if you're looking for a great shoujo manga series to read.
Miyamura is such a cutie ❤️ And I love how confident Hori is with expressing herself, but at the same time not- the angst but the eventual earnestness is beautiful 💖💖
You know what I adore more than anything? It's male friendship. I'm just always mesmerized by how pure it appears to me. Claim any themes that I like reading, it's yours, I wouldn't take it back, but not male friendship. I can never give that up (well, at least before I discovered boys' love and learned that there is a hidden stairs towards deeper feelings than just platonic, loyal male friendship room, psyche!)
Anyway, speaking of male friendship, I love Shindou and Miyamura's friendship. I adored it from the start (not the shipping kind). I was just fascinated by how close they are. Yes, it takes years to be able to walk like that besides someone. It makes me want to treasure my long time friends more. It makes me realize just how I am who I am, when I'm with them. Trust is just a wonderful word. And to be able to trust and be trusted by someone important to you, that's a great feeling. I mean, Shindou screaming, and Miyamura screaming as a response, followed up by "Why are we screaming?!" (this line is from the anime) isn't that just adorable? I want that too! But the manga version is cute too! "My Miyamura! He's gone! All gone!" Adorbs, right?!
I also adored how close Miyamura is to Hori's father. I mean, walking in your girlfriend's house, and like, tapping your girlfriend's father's shoulder and was like, "What are you watchi—" Right? Just tell me that's not adorable! I mean, don't slap "respect" on face! We're talking about Kyousuke here, and you know what I mean.
And of course, one thing I love about this series is Hori's forwardness. Maybe, it's because it's shounen that Hori is characterized that way. But I love it. It's refreshing to see a female character standing strong like Hori. You always see them insecure and afraid to speak up about their feelings. And I hated that theme in Shoujo mangas. Come on, I am that, no need to shove it on my face! I want a character as strong as Hori. But it's also fun to see an unruly Hori when Miyamura was away. I mean, yes, love does that to anyone. Just makes you surrender. Augh, Love just melt you in all the right angles. And, it's nostalgic. I really love this series so much!
As we progressed deeper into Hori and Miyamura's relationship, a rival has made an appearance! And guess what? she's into Hori! Did it shock me? No. Was the volume funny tho? Yes.
This volume is full of cute scenes and spiced with comedy but it still feels like there is no development to the plot or anything. I don't even know if there is a plot. I feel like I am just reading/watching these characters go on with their lives and experience romantic relationships which I never had but anyway, it still is a nice read.
I still have high hopes with this manga and I really do want to enjoy this but just like I've said, there are things that I have a problem with with this manga and that is because of Hori's tendency to hit someone. I really want someone to slap her and tell her that she's abusive. I think that is the reason why I am still clinging to this manga is to see that development of hers.
Overall, it's a cute manga. Enjoyable but it lacks development.
Disappointed. Lately the chapters are all over the place. There's no plot whatsoever. The chapters don't connect with one another, it's really random. Like in one chapter they're focusing on the main characters, then the next the spotlight's on the minor characters! *sigh*
