Even the mask of an expert spy is no defense against his own heart.

With a reputation as dark as his appearance, Greydon Sharpe, the Marquess of Ainsley, ought to have been the last agent assigned to the daughter of a well-respected Member of Parliament. However, when she is brutally attacked and left for dead, it becomes clear he is the only one with the skills to keep her

*** I received this book for free from Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review, which was posted on book blog Will Read for Feels.

First off, I have got to say that the winning factor in this book for me was Grey. The Marquess of Ainsley may have cultivated his reputation as a rake, but behind it is a troubled yet thoughtful man who, we later find out, has a history of looking out for the heroine, Lady Kathryn Brya

She is looking for adventure….

He has more than he can handle….

Lady Kathryn is the daughter of the Earl of Grenville, who is a spy for the crown. She does little jobs for the home office, but desires a bigger role in the process. She lands herself in very hot water, near death and must be watched. She is smart, strong and has an exaggerated sense of her abilities because she has never been given training.

Greydon Sharpe, Marquess of Anisley, is also a spy for the crown. He has grown up with Kathr

There was so much promise to this story. I loved the premise behind Grey and Kathryn being best friends as children and enemies when his rakish reputation came out, only to find themselves thrust together when Kathryn's threatened and the Home Office makes it Grey's job to protect her (secretly of course). But after a promising start, I felt like things were rushed to a happily ever after. Grey and Kathryn basically spent one week together and more importantly one night, before returning to a so ...more

Mystery. Intrigue. Twist. Turns. Action. Adventure. Humor. Romance. And then there was more. I had a great ball reading this historical mystery romance or romance mystery. I guess its all in the way you look at it. I was not left wanting. I got what I was looking for and much more. I got this book yesterday and I did not stop till I finished it this morning.

Such a wonderful historical fiction romance. I absolutely adored it. The humor was perfectly subtle. There is adventure and mystery that has you guessing. And the romance had you frustrated until you read the underlying meaning, which then left you breathless and heart pounding. Love this story and can't wait to see where the series is going next!

This one had humor, intrigue, and some twists I didn't see coming. The characters were fun, frustrating, sexy, and intriguing, depending on where you are in the story, and there was more than just a simple romance going. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and I loved that is a standalone without a cliffhanger.

McLean pulls readers in with a wildly irresistible hero and a reckless, yet admirable, heroine. The two together form an likely, and welcome duo, as Kathryn is a lighter, feminine version of him. Grey fights to keep Kathryn safe. What’s more is that it’s not just her person that’s in danger. His heart is also in battle. She’s the daughter of a well-respected friend and highly connected member of parliament. If she’s injured while on his watch, he’ll have 2 choices – flee or die. Unfortunately fo ...more

I love a mystery thrown in with my romance. Behind the Marquess's Mask gave me a huge dose of the mystery plot I crave.

Lady Kathryn Bryant likes to listen and report to the Home Office, but she's dying to be a real spy. She gets her hands on something and sets up her own mission. Greydon Sharpe, the Marquess of Ainsley, is watching the Lady on her father's behalf, but after an argument, he leaves her to her own devices. That happens to be the moment she gets attacked and left for dead. As a resu

There were many characters, and I suspected many of them as being the antagonist at one point or another through the book. I think Grey and Kathryn make a great pair. She loves adventure, and doesn't want just the life of a house wife. Grey's life is one big adventure. Their personalities clash in a big way, but their arguments sure were fun to read. I love how Grey says things just to irritate Kate. She takes the bait every time. This book gave us a little s
A promising start but the story has too many lengthy passages, my mind kept drifting away. Is it romance? The characters don't love each other. Oh, they finally say I love you but they don't show anything. As a whole, the story doesn't hold water. I doubt the spies were that silly at the time. Disappointing story.
