In 1829, the Lord counseled, "A marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men. Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength." (D&C 4:1-2.) Serving the Master is a serious matter, one that requires much time, study, energy and care. In The Lord's Service focuses on how to grow spiritually through magnifying a calling from the Lord. Elder Asay discusses such topics as building personal testimony, developing good habits and noble character, establishing synergistic relationships, making the most of opportunities, setting and striving to reach goals, seeking the Spirit, overcoming opposition, and living the law of sacrifice.
Book is fine for a surface level view of church service. It really is a pamphlet's worth of material on actual gospel-centered leadership padded with more general information on how to live a Christ-like life. Sounds nit-picky, but I can pick up "how to generally be a good disciple" book anywhere within Deseret Book. I expected more informatino on how to handle the challenges of gospel leadership and how to movitate people who, basically, can quit serving at any time.
