This is a fiercely written document that explores the subtle difference between rest and relaxation. It opened my eyes to conceptualising tension and relaxation in deeply physiological ways. As a result, it also made me feel that relaxation is possible, difficult to achieve, but possible. Jacobson does not mince words in critiquing his contemporaries and their work. It is obvious how much he believes in his theory. Anyone looking to relax, should not pick up this book, instead lie down and progressively release the tension held within your various muscle groups. Jokes aside, it is a great read to begin understanding the complex relationship between the mind and the body.
