Wow! What a great book. I know, a lot of reviews start that way. I am truly at a loss of how to write a fantastic review without causing a spoiler alert. So you read the first book in this trilogy, you know it is about a dystopian future that has gone amok. Texas and Florida have split from the US as well as the deep south and the Gulf. They have all split off from what is now the Eastlands or what is left of the US. This book picks up about a year after the first book leaves off. All I can say ...more

This is one of those books that is difficult to review without proving too many spoilers because as a reviewer, you want to tell all of the parts that you found fascinating, interesting, exciting, and so on. But I will try. To get the full impact you should also have read the initial Strikers story. That one starts off in Texas, in a future dystopian society where the United States has broken into several groups of states with next to none formal interaction. The main characters, teenagers, are ...more

One of the most talented indie authors out there, Ann Christy, has continued the amazing world of Strikers into new territory. The territory being out of Texas and into Florida. When book 1 of the Strikers trilogy ended, our crew had escaped Texas and was moving eastward along the wall, and out into the gulf.

Escaping from Texas was a walk in the park compared to what awaits them in Florida. Who's the good guy? Who's the evil one? Is the doctor who we really think she is? Everything Ann writes is

Ann Christy does it again! I should learn to never doubt that her writing will suck me in, and keep me turning pages! I love the way she builds the characters so you can see them as 3 dimensional. Her skill with writing the good, and the bad, for how people act, is astonishing.

Spoiler -- keep tissues around.

Honestly, Ann will never be a bad choice when you are looking for something to read.

I loved Strikers, the first book in this series. It’s a great book, and Eastlands is even better. This book continues the mapping of the fractured landscape that was once the United States. Texas is still a bad place, and Florida is worse. I found it interesting that the two regions are so similar, though. They are both prisons for their citizens, and neither is big on human rights. Having fled Texas in the first book, Karas and friends would rather avoid Florida, but they end up exploring it an ...more

This novel was intriguing, interesting, funny, and sad. The only thing wrong is that I WANT MORE RIGHT NOW !! I am hooked on this story and you got me with a twist or two. Plus, I love the characters and how the surroundings are described. It makes me cognizant of my own skin and atmosphere. This book is better than the first and you can't say that about many series. I love the moral compass of some of the characters: sometimes you have to bend to survive, and at others you stand on your convict ...more

This was a great book! I loved the first Strikers book and I have been waiting (not so patiently) for this book to come out. It was everything I had hoped for. As always Ann's characters are engaging and the story is fantastic. I was emotionally invested in the characters and their story that I could barely put the book down to eat and take care of my family. I can't wait to see how the series wraps up and what becomes of Karas and her friends. Go out right now and read the first Strikers book a ...more
WOW! This story sucked me right into the Strikers universe.I was captivated by the characters and the struggles they faced.Ann Christy never fails to amaze me with her world building and well developed characters that evokes an emotional connection with each one of them.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Strikers: Eastlands picks up roughly one year after the events of Strikers. Together, Karas and Co. have taken to the water, becoming seafaring smugglers. Their lives are simple and uncomplicated, at least until an unexpected event upends everything. Arriving in Florida in the most unconventional of ways, they quickly realize how desperate their situation is. What was once the tourist mecca of the Southeastern United States has become an authoritarian state with closed borders and zero tolerance ...more

I try not to compare books to other titles when doing reviews. I used to but I don't think it's fair. I mean, a classic would have to be a 5. A bestseller, a 4, so every thing else would have to be a 3 or under, right? So yeah, I don't think that's fair. I will now review booms based on their own merit and I think this whole series deserves a 5. Keep in mind that this is a young adult book and also Dystopian which happen to be my favorite. The story is amazing. The author makes you feel

In Book 1 of Strikers, our heroin Karas and her crew managed to escape from the Republic of Texas -> a closed- off military state.

Since then, they have enjoyed a year of freedom, smuggling with their ship on the Gulf Sea. However, things go terribly wrong, as they get caught up in some hellish weather and are forced aground in Florida, itself a the mysterious & highly developed independent country which doesn't take nicely to visitors!

No spoilers here, but OMG the story develops in a way I was

I was waiting for sequel when I finished reading Strikers. I liked Strikers but there were some questions I had and this sequel clears that up and shows which direction the plot is going on.
Like the first book this also had breath holding anticipating moments, which I loved and I had to remind myself I'm not in the story.
I love author Ann Christy's writing for the above reason.
The only thing I was sometimes put off when Karas thought about the future with Jovan a little too many times. It felt r

This is the second novel in author Ann Christy's dystopian "Strikers" trilogy and, though it is different in tone from the first novel, it is every bit as wonderful.
In that first novel we are introduced to heroine/narrator Karas Quick, a young woman living with an abusive, alcoholic mother in the Republic of Texas. Life is hard but tolerable and unlikely to change much, or so she thinks until she chances to see her long-absent father being marched to prison, where he will be executed within 24 h

Second installment of the series. Karas has grown up a bit in this story, continuing the tale from Strikers, which I loved. With her friends and her love, Jovan, she has found a new life smuggling off the coast of Florida. But a terrible storm forces them to land there: and when you land in Florida, you don't leave. I don't want to spoil things for anyone, but Florida is.... strict. No one in, no one out. Everyone is vegetarian, and germs are a BIG issue. The description of the Arcology was amaz ...more

Continuing drama

Really enjoying this series. Will be reading other books by this author as well. Engaging characters in scenarios not all that unlikely, sorry to say. Each book builds upon and explains what you learned in the previous book.

Keeps the adventure moving.

Really enjoyed the next adventure of this group of young people. Enjoying their new life, then placed in a situation completely beyond their control . Waiting for Outlands.

Secrets, danger and pain for Karas and her friends after their escape from Texas.
The ante has been upped and it's an exciting read.
A shame that book 3 isn't here yet.

Understanding is not excusing...

...and the actions of a group of bad people does not mean that everyone like them is bad.

Karas comes from Texas, where 3 Strikes and You're Out has been modified to life and death extreme. When she and her friends flee for their lives, they find themselves in Florida. Florida looks utopian but beneath the surface (literally and figuratively) lurks danger and horror unlike any of them can imagine--and they may not all make it out alive.I

Awesome again

This is another great Ann Christy book. You don't need to read the first "Striker" book to be caught up in the story immediately. It's better to read the other first because of the additional background for the main characters. There are some big surprises that answer mysteries from the first book.

The characters are very 3D and the people and communities encountered are very detailed. She always creates characters with depth, even minor characters are treated with care. If you've re
