Luckily, Goodie is an expert at maintaining an invisible presence, enabling her to keep any interaction with the egomaniacs she protects to a minimum … until she meets Nick Chambers.
Nick doesn’t seem to understand invisible presence, appropriate employer–employee protocol, security precautions, following instructions, or in fact just leaving her the fuck alone. Everything about him, from his ability to laugh at their situation to the perpetual smile on his gorgeous face complete with goddamn dimple, drives Goodie insane, and for some reason makes her feel threatened. Fear is weakness, and if Goodie’s life has taught her anything it’s that you never, ever show weakness.
But Nick is determined, and he’s used to getting what he wants. He’s been effortlessly charming the women in his life since he was five years old, so he knows it won’t be long before he has Goodie right where he wants her. Only some things are so dark, so horrific, they can’t be dragged into the light. Some people are beyond redemption, and Goodnight may be one of them.
This book is a full-length, stand-alone contemporary romance of approximately 85,000 words with no cliffhanger.

In the final installment in this series, we finally get Goodie’s book! I love Goodie as a heroine so, so much. This book series is a light, rom com series, but this one is a little darker than the others. That said, it still has a lot of humour and heart, and was a perfect conclusion to the series! Goodie had a dark past, and she now works on contract with a security firm. This book is like a reversal of the bodyguard trope, where Goodie is Nick’s bodyguard. She’s very closed off and her intensity scares others, especially since she’s basically a living, breathing killing machine. I love how she gradually warms up over the course of the book. Nick is a charming male protagonist who’s never had to work hard to accomplish or earn anything he’s wanted in the past. So, of course, he’s drawn to Goodie, who seemingly can’t stand him…

I liked the 3 previous Susie Tate books I've read (4 stars for series: Sticks and Stones, Broken Heart Syndrome, and Beyond Repair.) This one is a little different. This one has a Salt vibe to it. While it has heavier themes, it is not too dark though. There is a feel good element to this one as opposed to some of the dark, gritty, intense books I sometimes read.
I liked Goodie (h) and I rooted for her the whole way. Nick (H) is wealthy and spoiled, but is written as likeable. I liked Nick's family and friends - some of the interactions/activities during family functions are hilarious. It was interesting how they tried to "assimilate" Goodie. Nick and family looked out for her and Goodie never stopped trying to protect them. I knew some of the Welsh-isms from the author's previous books and I had a smile on my face at the end.

Talk about a badass heroine...........Goodie was that and then some. This was an action packed read and the romance between the hero and heroine was slow building and well executed. This made for a fast and intense read. The epilogue was amazing!!!!!

I don't know how I missed the release of this, the fourth book in the Broken Heart series, earlier this year. This book features the chilling all-round-baddass Goodnight, a Russian private security operative who works with Sam (from Beyond Repair).
Nick Chambers and his eccentric but brilliant business partner Ed have developed an alternative energy source. Nick seems to spend his time trying to compensate for the idiotic actions of his bumbling cousin Bertie (think Bertie Wooster) and Ed's otherworldly disregard for the minutiae of everyday life. Add to which his unease around the new receptionist, Lucinda, who appears vacuous and talks about soap-operas and gossip magazines like a pro, but has a disconcerting habit of watching him with eyes that seem cold and dark. Nick soon learns that 'Lucinda' is actually 'Goodie' part of a covert protection team, hired by his father, tasked with protecting him and Ed from unscrupulous oil companies who will stop at nothing to prevent their invention reaching the market.
Right from the get-go Nick, a wealthy upper-class Brit, is fascinated by Goodie and determined to learn her secrets. Watching, and laughing along, his attempts to get close to her are fascinating. Plus, as an added bonus, we get to see Katie and Sam again.
Although somewhat different to the previous three books I loved this just as much as the three previous books and it made me want to re-read them again.
Recommended for people who love humorous stories about British inventors and Russian assassins, eccentric families and interfering friends.

This is the first book that I have read by Susie Tate. Amazon has it listed as a Military Romance, and a Romantic Comedy. I can see Military Romance, but Romantic Comedy not so much. Yes, some of the characters have strange personalities, but Romantic Comedy is a stretch. If you are looking for a fun romance. I don’t think this is your book. The plot of this book has Goodie working on the protection detail for businessman, Nick Chambers. Nick doesn’t even know that he has a protection detail. He let go of the last two that he had, but his father feels that Nick’s life may be in danger because of the alternative energy program that his company is developing. Goodie is posing as Nick’s off the wall receptionist until she steps in and rescues Nick and his date from a kidnapping attempt. Goodie is one of those people that has almost total recall of everything. She was born in Russia, and at the age of 9 she murdered the man that killed her mother. Now she is part of an elite team that works protection and extractions. Chemistry between Goodie and Nick is pretty one sided throughout most of the story, but Nick has a way of charming Goodie and the reader. I didn’t find the pacing as smooth as other reviewers have noted. I felt that at times the story skipped ahead or back without any indication, causing me to reread many parts of the story. The ending was good, but again it skipped so far ahead that I thought that maybe I missed the end of the book and the author was giving a glimpse of her next book. Yes, it did indicate it was an epilogue, but it was about totally different people until several pages in. The characters were interesting, and I did enjoy reading this story.

A great story for Goodnight, I had been rooting for her since Broken Heart Syndrome!
Goodie really lived up to the reputation she gained in the previous three S.T. books and then some. I found also that the way in which Goodies dialogue was written, you could almost feel her Russian accent coming through and was very cleverly done.
A definite 5 stars from me, the feelings between Goodie and Nick were realistic and a nice build-up. The amount of action in the story is just right, the story is primarily a romance, which is the most important element for me.
I have really enjoyed all of S.T's books, her medical ones more so, but this is still top notch. :)

Another great read by Susie Tate. Love Goody she is one strong, loyal, beautiful woman. A survivor who learns how to live with the help of Nick, our hero and all the beautiful characters who love her. Loved it.

Omg, I'm still smiling like an idiot after finishing this book.
First of all, "Goodnight" was the perfect alpha heroine + alpha hero = who will win?
I loved everything about this book.
Goodie, who we get to know in the previous books, is a badass woman. She had to suffer unimaginable things as a child, things that made her who she is in the present. She's a hard and tough woman, a trained killer, who has distanced her from everything outside her work. She appears as a woman without feelings, cold and detached from everything.
On the contrary, Nick is a powerful businessman who has based his success on human contact, comprehension, acceptance of diversity (if we want to consider Ed and Bertie as so). He is a very strong willed man who doesn't let anything stop him, especially when loved ones are involved. His background is completely different from Goodie's one, he has a loving family (even if a little crazy) at his back and knows to love and be loved.
So what happens when Goodie is put with Nick? Well, everything😂
I loved how their relationship unfolded, every step it took to get to their HEA. It was absolutely not easy, it was difficult, but it was worth it.
I felt so much for Goodie in her journey to accept to be happy again, her struggles to let her aloofness go and accept to feel again.
I loved the banter between those two, and I loved even more the arguments that started because of their stubbornness (I remind you: alpha female + alpha male!).
There is so much more in this book that would need a shout out, the storyline, the secondary characters... But I would need 10 pages to do so😂😂😂
This book gave me so many feelings and I really really couldn't put it down. I started it this morning, and devoured it in a few hours, such if was written beautifully.

I'm so glad I read this
This heroine was tough as nails and was fascinating in the previous book. I wasn't overly impressed by that book but I'm glad I gave this a go. I enjoyed the character development of both the hero and heroine.
She was an assassin and he was a tycoon who had to work so hard to win her over.
I laughed and also shed a tear or two. It was that engaging. I only wish I could've seen more action out of this heroine. Which is why I didn't give this a full 5 stars. This type of heroine is hard to come by so when I do come across it, I prefer action than hints of how good they are. I've definitely read better action/romance with much more details. But nonetheless, I still enjoyed this.
I think this book will definitely go on to my "read again list".

Well written with complex characters
The main character in this story, having been introduced in a previous book, is a complex character. Without giving any spoilers, I will only say this character's story is amazingly well done. Good editing, a fast pace and just enough humor to lighten the storyline, this is a very good book.

Happily surprised
When I started reading I immediately thought this was not going to be a good read. However I always finish a book after I've started. As it turned out I am really glad I did. This was very different from the typical romance which was a fantastic surprise.

Goodie is a badass heroine. I normally like my H's to be the warrior in the story but I just couldn't help but love that Goodie is so strong. She is also incredibly wise. Though slightly standoffish, her heart is huge and always in the right place. I love how she sees the value every person brings, even the not-so-bright Bertie that everyone else makes fun of. It was Goodie that made this book so great. And it's still Goodie that makes me reread this book every couple of months.

Goodie lives her life closed off and devoid of attachments. Her past has made her the perfect mercenary and bodyguard, nearly indestructible both mentally and physically. With all that she has been through and seen in her life and she still never saw Nick Chambers coming.
When Nick's life is in danger, an elite team is hired to protect him. He can't help but be intrigued by the strong and rough around the edges woman in charge of his protection. The more he gets to know her, the more he craves to know.
Tate gives a unique twist on the bodyguard trope. I really loved that it was Goodie, the female, who was the protector. It was nice to see such a tough and intelligent female lead. What was also done very well was that although Goodie is the bodyguard, Nick is still protective, possessive, and very much an alpha when it comes to her. He wasn't just this rich, spoiled tosser, he was charming, brilliant, and driven. He truly cared about Goodie and wanted to be a part of her life. I loved their dynamic and their growth throughout the story.
While some aspects of the story didn't always flow smoothly, I remained captivated throughout. The push and pull between the characters, the action, the mystery, the bold characters, all of it, had me engaged and invested. This was my first book by Susie Tate and will not be my last.

Goodnight is an awesome tale. I first met the enigmatic and mysterious Goodie in the Broken Hearts Series also written by Susie Tate. I had high hopes for Goodie's story and I was not disappointed. Goodie is a very special security agent who prefers to work alone. She is unusually loyal and particularly talented in all areas of protective services. Basically she could kick your butt anywhere she chose or creatively kill you. Goodie is a very complex character but she is an amazing one. You get to unravel her history and gain the reasons for why she acts and reacts as she does. I have really enjoyed all four of the books I have read by this author and would thoroughly recommend this book. Reviewed for WTMO.

The books of Susie Tate have a real British feeling to it and I like them a lot.
Goodie is 9 when her mother is murdered (in Russia). Twenty years later she is part of Nick Chambers' security team and he is intrigued about the female bodyguard with the cold eyes as he senses there is so much more to her. What is the background of this beautiful but detached woman? She is highly intelligent, speaks many languages fluently and can disarm men bigger than her.
But when Nick is making her walls crumble and he is hurt in the process, Goodie panics.
The books of Susie Tate (starting with my favorite 'Broken Heart Syndrome') are interconnected and they can be read as standalone. But to really enjoy this book you must at least have read 'Beyond Repair'. Goodie appears in that book and you wonder about her back story. That story is very dark and upsetting, but the romance between Goodie and Nick takes center stage. That keeps it from becoming too dark.

Yet again I see a strong women being put in agonizing writing styles where she is mesmerized with the hero's beauty...
And then we change her personality so that they can fit her in the expected happy ending and call this misogynist act healing that she required.
Not just these but multiple traits across the book was just grating on my nerves. The entire narrative comes across as manipulative, chauvinist and even racist.
And why oh why the only children book mentioned in the entire series is the 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' .. It happens in two different books with two different characters, there are many more books across the globe specially from Russia like The White Deer or maybe something from Alexander Volkov huge collection.
This shows lack of research and lazy writing style.
One just not simply put up multiple Welsh and Russian words into the story and call it diverse.

Goodie is different, always has been and this has been both a blessing and curse . I look at her and see a gift.
Goodie is likable and you can't help but root for her . Nick ,well he's rich and spoiled and used to getting his own way but again he's so well written you can't help but like him .
I wouldn't call Goodnight a dark read more but more of a grey read and having dragon blood in my veins (Welsh) I appreciate the "representation".
The only "critic " I have is that although Goodnight is a standalone I'd like to have read Susie Tate's previous 3 books..
A highly recommend 41/2 read.
