This is the first book that I have read by Kim Boykin, but it certainly will not be the last. This book grabbed my attention from page one and took me on an exhilarating thrill ride till the end. It is full of mystery, crime, redemption and love. I know , that is a lot. I loved the descriptive details of the Lowcountry that this book has. I felt the breeze of the trees, the smell of the marshes and I was transported there. The characters are well developed and there are many strong female charac ...more

Town Police chief Billie Warren has enough on her plate already with a mother who as Alzheimer's and a daughter who is a teenage single mother and Mis Sadie Byrd comes back to town with her tale of what happened to the judges daughter 40 yrs ago, just sends her in ...more

devour everything Kim Boykin writes. Her character development is second to none! What a great job Boykin does in portraying the sandwich generation as Billie raises a teen and has a mother with Alzheimer's. I especialy love "Crazy Sadie" who is the only witness to a years old murder. As Boykin leads us through Billie's history and the murder investigation, you are touched and amazed with these characters.

Fantastic story!

This was my first book by Kim Boykin and I really enjoyed it! Hoping for more of this great tale! I fell in love without the strength of the main character, Billie. Great life lessons in this suspenseful read. More than enough here to keep you turning the Pages with great anticipation!

Echos of Mercy is quite the intriguing read. There are characters that create an original and interesting set of circumstances with story-line that keeps you buzzing through the pages. There is a perfect blend of mystery and thrill that caused me to become very engrossed in the book. A great read for any book club because there is a lot that can be discussed! 4.5 stars

I loved the story - but it was very slow to start and ended too abruptly. I just couldn't visualize what was happening at the end although it wasn't hard to determine who was responsible. Disappointing

I thought this would be one of those novels that follows a family through a voyage of discovery. I also thought it would end with all questions answered, but at least a few remained - like if the main character was adopted. I felt this was, to some extent, left hanging.
The rest was nicely, if tritely, resolved, but only after the book turns from family voyage of discovery, to "find the woman's children" to an almost brutal mystery that resolves with dizzying speed, but not without leav

This is an excellently written book that will keep you wondering until the very end. It is a terrific blending of a past crime and of the people touched by it today. The characters are well formed and true to form on every page.

I enjoyed this book. I liked that the lead character was older and though I have not been thru all the things she has I did feel like I could relate to her. She was a very believable character and it was good reading about a strong woman but one who also has weaknesses. My father does has Alzheimer's so I could relate to what she was going thru with her mother. The description of the disease was so accurate. Billie the main character is a single mother whose daughter has a child out of wedlock. ...more

Echoes of Mercy is full of mystery and suspense. Kim Boykin brings us the story about family, corruption and the bone chilling baby market we never thought could exist. As Billie the main character of the story goes through her life as a cop, a mother, a daughter, she finds herself helping the biggest mystery of the century, to uncover a murder with the help of the town’s Crazy Sadie. I read my first book by Kim Boykin this winter (The Wisdom of Hair) for my book club. I was happy to find a good new author to read. I was very excited to be given an advance copy of her latest book in exchange for my honest & unbiased review.

This book is totally different from The Wisdom of Hair. It’s about a 49 year old woman named Billie for starters. I’m 48 and usually lead characters end up being much younger than me, so I liked that. Billie has a teenage daughter – I also have a teenag

"Why does any woman do that--reject the very things she knows are best for her, whether it's a man, a little extra sleep, copious amounts of chocolate?" So says Billie Warren, the heroine of Kim Boykin's Echoes of Mercy. Billie is a woman who is carrying her world on her shoulders, something I think many women can identify with. She's a local police chief with lots of compassion; her teenage daughter has a baby of her own; and her mother is battling Alzheimer's. While I can't say that I have exp ...more

First line—Forty years of atonement ought to count for something. After all, Billie Warren was just nine years old when she did what she did.

So what did Billie do when she was nine that has been haunting her all these years? And has she done enough good in her life to make up for it? Getting answers to those questions I had made me keep reading.

I immediately liked Bille. She's the chief of police of her community and if that's not enough on her plate, she also has a mother with Alzheimer's and a

Hey Kim,

I just finished "Echoes of Mercy: A Lowcountry Novel". I loved it!!

The characters are wonderful. I really love Miss Sadie. I cannot imagine having to endure what she did in her life. Billie, well every single mother can relate to her I think. Unless you've been there, you really can't understand what a single mother goes through, with her children, work, and life in general. Billie is a being a very normal person in her role. The others were perfect in their roles also and were very bel

Billie has been trying to atone for past sins for 40 years. She's now the police chief of her small South Carolina town. Her teenage daughter and new grandson live with her. And her mother is slowly being stolen away by Alzheimer's. Billie is stretched so thin taking care of everyone else that she has no time for herself. She certainly doesn't have the time or energy to be the woman Cole deserves.

Great story! My first book by this author! I really hope she writes a sequel because I'd love to know how the story progresses!! I loved the strength of Billie. Life isn't easy for Billie who takes care of her aging mother, daughter and grandson. She had to make amends for a poor choice when she was a child. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, an advance reader copy. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I believe this is the genre my sister calls a "cozy mystery". Normally, it's not the genre I go for, but about half way into to book, the story became interesting. The advance copy has many typos that I hope will be edited before publication. If you are looking for a cozy mystery to fill your weekend, I think you can enjoy

I didn't follow this story at all. I had high hopes for this novel as I've enjoyed others that she has written but this one rambles and meanders. And to be honest I didn't find the characters endearing in the slightest, which would have been one thing that it would have going for it. But I just didn't.

Kim Boykin was raised in her South Carolina home with two girly sisters and great parents. She had a happy, boring childhood, which sucks if you’re a writer because you have to create your own crazy. PLUS after you’re published and you’re being interviewed, it’s very appealing when the author actually lived in Crazy Town or somewhere in the general vicinity.
